LastHope
I’m unsure where to post this but I don’t know anywhere else (other than possibly support group? - admins I apologise in advance if this needs to be moved) but I have an awful sinus infection right now. everything in my face aches - my eyes, head, jaw, cheeks, nose, everything. I’ve tried painkillers and they don’t really work, and I’ve also tried inducing sneezing out which helps for a little while but not loads. I sneeze soooo much when I induce though, as my nose and sinuses are so sensitive at the minute. does anyone have any advice? I can’t access chhinkni right now as I can’t find anywhere that sells it, though I think it would help a load. I’m desperate 😭 Link to comment
oOMariusOo
It is never very pleasant to have sinusitis, but it should pass with a little rest. From what I know, it can sometimes last up to 4 weeks, but in any case, the first thing to do is to see your doctor. Approximately how long have you had this infection ? To relieve yourself, you can try to breathe the vapors of hot water. For example, you heat up a herbal tea, add a little liquid honey and inhale the scent through your nostrils. Normally, that should calm you down a bit. Otherwise, it seems that adding a little salt water can relieve the congestion, but I have never tested this tip personally. If it's too hot or too dry in your bedroom, plug in an air humidifier before going to sleep. Otherwise, be careful with tobacco too, it has the effect of irritating the mucous membranes. I sympathize with what you are going through, I have had some severe sinusitis in my life, I know what it is. However, I have never heard that sneezing relieves sinus infection. Even when I had sinusitis, it hurt even more to sneeze. Are you really sure it doesn't hurt you more ? Anyway, I wish you well, take good care of yourself and rest. Link to comment
LastHope
@oOMariusOo it does kinda hurt at the time, though seems to relieve some of the congestion my face afterwards. thank you so much for the advice, I will definitely be doing that today! edit: I’ve only had it for a few days but I’ve never had it like this before so it’s properly getting to me. ID2006
This has saved me so many times and is really good at preventing ear infections. It was especially helpful when I was pregnant and didn't have many medication options. I highly recommend doing in shower. Also know that if you have a sensitive gag reflex, as stuff drains it can be... unpleasant. Link to comment
oOMariusOo
@LastHope Yes it is possible, I have a vague memory of that too. Sneezing unblocks your sinuses for a short time. Otherwise, as ickydog2006 suggests to you, certain self-massages are sometimes very useful, it is an excellent advice. Sinus massages are miraculous too, I found two for you on youtube in English, I give the links below : - Self-massage Also try in the shower with lukewarm water, not too much pressure or too little. I think it's the vibrations of the drops of water on your face that come to relieve your sinuses and improve your runny nose. - Massage by a masseur If you ever have a boyfriend or a friend to do it for you.
