Knightmare riddles

I've been rewatching a lot of early Knightmare lately, and I've been enjoying the riddles - because some are easy, some are hard, and some have great rhymes. I thought it might be fun to see who can get them. Here are my favourites, and some others.

1)
In caverns deep below the ground, stalagmites and tites are found,
But which grows up and which grows down?

2)
Once was pride so great in man
That monarch bade the waves retreat,
Name me now this foolish king
Whose pride was soaked, just like his feet.

3)
The apple of your eye is that which you desire - but what is the flower of your eye?

4)
What runs, yet has no legs? It has a bed, but never rests?

5)
Name me now the sword that was found in stone, and lost in water.

6)
What is laid and served, is not a table, but almost a bird?

7)
Red fought white, and white fought red,
Great houses fought while England bled;
But answer as my riddle poses
Who fought each other over roses?

8 )
It was the noblest knight who broke the table round,
Because a woman brought him down,
To penance and death he wore a priestly gown -
Who was he?

9)
In the scriptures, if you read 'em,
There's more than Adam's ale in Eden,
So tell me, if you have the courage,
What drink was made from the fruit of knowledge?

10)
If the pen is mightier than the sword, what is the bird that's mightier than the hawk?

11)
If you would a warrior be, name the skin that saves your skin.

12)
There are sixty seconds in a minute, but how many firsts are there?

13)
Moonlight makes my hair grow longer,
Moonlight makes my jaw grow stronger,
Daylight finds me bare of face,
A member of the human race.
What am I?

14)
I swallow ships, though I am small,
I have a mouth but never drink at all,
I have a neck but not a head,
You throw me out when I am dead;
What am I?

15)
Where lands the blow that harms you not, but ends the state of common man?

Alright, because I'm bored, I'll bite. I usually hate riddles, but some of these I actually think I get.

1) Stalagtites grow downward, stalagmites upward.

2) King Cnut/Canute.

3) Iris.

4) A river.

5) Excalibur - pulled out of the stone, later surrendered to the Lady of the Lake.

6) An egg?

7) House of York and House of Lancaster fought the War of the Roses.

8 ) Sir Lancelot?

13) A werewolf?

14) A bottle?

Right on all counts. :) I know some of these aren't too difficult (but they were more challenging as the contestants on the show were teenagers, some quite young) but I like the rhymes in them, especially number 2. The kids on the show got number 14 wrong, I think that's difficult if you have never heard the term "a dead bottle" i.e. an empty bottle of drink.

The ones you haven't answered, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 15, are mostly a bit questionable, and possibly a bit unfair.

The exception is 15, which is possibly my favourite - I think it's difficult but is a clever riddle.

I realise now it is harder to get some of these riddles if you don't know the context of the show - it's medieval adventuring, quests, knights, swords, etc. That should help.

I’ll humor you

9) a spirit

10) an owl (representing wisdom n such)

11) leather—this was fairly common armor material in medieval times.

12) infinite (my five brain cells tried to hard to grasp how the question would work lol)

15) his pride

Ah, I was reading 15 as either on the shoulders (being knighted or similarly elevated by the monarch) or on your father, thus elevating you to his social position.

That makes a lot of sense! I didn’t even think of social rank
