Thinking about making my first audio recording…tips or ideas?

I have thought about making audio clips of induced sneezing for years. In the past, I have  recorded myself, listened back, and deleted without posting. I just ordered some chhinkni powder and was thinking of posting my first recording here. I have been naturally a little more sneezy than usual with my allergies in the last week or so, and thought it might be a good time to do it.

Does anyone have tips or recommendations? Requests? I am not great at stifling, but was contemplating if I should sneeze into something? Like a tissue or clothing? Or if I should just let them out with chhinkni as those sneezes have more power? I could induce a different way? I am pretty good with hitching before letting a sneeze out - perhaps including that? Try to hold back and then let them go? Should I try to talk while sneezing? Or have a scenario planned? So many thoughts! Lol

what is best way to record? Just video on phone or an app? Wasn’t sure what worked best for uploading

I could record in my bathroom where it echos or out in my car (it’s hard because my husband works at home, so would like to record solo).

I have listened to audio clips of sneezes for decades, but for some reason, I’m really nervous about where to start with recording and what people want to hear. I appreciate any suggestions you have and thank you! 😊

My first suggestion would be to try not to do too much at once. The main thing you should focus on, in my opinion, is just being comfortable with the process and then stuff like scenarios or requests can be easier to fulfil later if you were still looking to do that. You being comfortable with the process and the response from the community are more important than worrying about doing a specific style or request. I don't think you'll have any problem getting those xD

You mentioned you've recorded yourself in the past, how did you do that? If that was with your phone then that would be my suggestion for a method, it's simple and doesn't require any further investment. If the reason you deleted them was quality then it may need to be revisited (though you'll probably be your own biggest critic for stuff like that) but if you deleted them because you were nervous about posting them in the past, then making sure this is something you want to progress with should take center stage.

one tip is that i would recommend that if you go the youtube route, disable comments on your videos. not much good will ever come of it, and lots of people will be extremely gross in the comments, invariably. it's nice to spare yourself the irritation

^This.

And just to please think very, very carefully before putting anything up, that you are happy for it to be forever on the internet. I still see clips popping up from YouTubers who deleted their channels and videos a very long time ago. People will copy, save and possibly in the future share your videos, whatever platform they are on. Sad but true. Very few content providers show their faces for this reason. Wavs are usually the safest route.

As someone who made wavs in the past and is now getting back into it, I would definitely take it slow. Maybe record a handful of videos so you have a backlog of content and release them weekly or biweekly so that you have time to make more. That's what I've been doing since I don't have time to make a fresh wav every week.

For the kind of sneezing content: I would make wavs that you think you are able to do. Like, if you just do a simple chhinkini session with all natural sneezing. You could try a stifle video another time. You could do a session where you sneeze into tissues or a hanky. Like, you could make each wav be a different 'theme.' My vids have a singular theme around each clip: stifle, build ups, talking, etc.

For recording: I use my phone and place it facedown or on something that is going to black out the screen but also let my face be close to the mic. And then I use the YT mobile app to upload. I don't edit my vids, so my clips are short, but they're unedited.

Warning: I don't ever show my face, that's something I've done in the past (like show from my neck down), and I won't do that again because I got extra creepy comments on those ones. Not your typical creepy comments on just black wavs.

I would also balance your interactions with YT comments. Some you just know have a weird vibe and I stay away from those. I wouldn't respond to comments like "email me" or "here's my social media messaging app username." Set an expectation/boundary for yourself on how you'd like to be contacted. If you only want to be contacted through this forum, let them know that (one pro of that is if they are serious, they will contact you on the forum, otherwise they probably want to get in your pants). When I started my YT channel back up, the only place I promoted that information was this forum, so people who wanted to engage with me had to do it over this forum and then we moved it to a different messaging system that worked for both parties.

I hope that helps. My PMs are open if you have more specific questions -PetalPunk

With apologies to OP, I'mma jump on their band wagon and ask about audio recording.

I've been thinking about making audio content for a while, but have zero recording/editing/creative skills or equipment, which I had thought was kind of a barrier. I wouldn't be doing anything very elaborate and won't be trying to monetise it so I don't need to go crazy.

Is phone recording and upload via YouTube app decent enough quality for that? What if I then wanted to share to (say) Snzblr. Is a little mic (e.g. headphone mic) going to work better?

And if I do want to edit (e.g. to remove dead space between sneezes or link multiples together as a compilation), are there some easy/free options available?

i used to legit just use a shitty laptop mic and people busted nuts left and right over them, so i wouldn't worry too much about that. a headphone mic would be fine, i'd just make sure to flip the mic up slightly so you're not just sneezing directly into it and creating static. audacity is a good free audio editing option and so easy i could use it, but they've been doing some weird unethical shit lately, so you might want to look into some of the audacity mirrors that are out there. good luck!

Did I mention that I don't have a personal laptop because I've worked places that give you one for like 7 years...

Thanks jejune, sage advice and tbh I always used to think your content was wonderful so you must be right!

I’ve used my iPhone for any recordings I’ve ever done, with no complaints 🤷🏼‍♀️ So I’d say it would be fine!

I remove dead space also right through the iPhone editing features. And if I’ve ever wanted to compile multiple clips, I’ve used the app InShot.

Hope that helps 😊
