Men keeping hanky up sleeve

I always keep a silk hanky up each sleeve, being a man do the girls in this forum find that weird or not? For me it’s totally normal and so does my wife but I would like to know How people feel about boys tucking a hanky up their sleeve.

I don’t think it is a common thing where I am from, but I wouldn’t say it is weird either!

I don't see that as a weird thing, actually I think it's very cute and hot as hell!

It's certainly unconventional, but hey, I bet the majority of people (I mean everyone, not just those with our fetish) do some things that are different from most other people

Doesn't (necessarily) make us weird.

while I'm at home I always wear my hankies up my sleeve.  My wife also wears them up her sleeve.  But when I go outside, I get embarrassed.  It is actually weird for a man to keep his hanky tucked into his sleeve. In what other ways do you keep your handkerchiefs?

Super geekish remark: there is an episode of Fawlty Towers in which there is a character impersonating a member of the House of Lords (actually a conman). He places his handkerchief up his sleeve. On some audio commentary I heard on this, this is noted as a military practice.

Indeed, somewhere in one of the Sherlock Holmes short stories (I can’t remember the exact one off the top of my head), Watson, who had served as an army doctor, mentioned keeping one’s handkerchief in one’s sleeve as a military habit. There’s no indication how widespread it may have been (though I think the description seemed to imply it was rather common), but Conan Doyle had served in the Boer War, so this is likely to be something he’d seen for himself.

Also, if any mods see this, this particular thread may fit better under “Related Fetishes.”

I think it matters what type of sleeve it is (it would be weird if you could see lumps) but yes... the concept itself is hot, because it sounds like the precursor to some spontaneous chivalry.

It strikes me as old fashioned, but having said that, if I saw a guy doing it I'd likely swoon :D

As a teenager, home alone for a few hours, I raided the recently-discovered delights of my mum's bedside handkerchief drawer. Choosing one of the laciest (more lace than 'solid' material!), I gently inserted part of the perfectly-ironed triangle into my sleeve, ensuring that a glimpse of the lace remained visible at my wrist. Having enjoyed that sight for some time, I must have had a lapse of concentration: my parents returned, but I'd forgotten to remove the handkerchief 😮. I THINK (!!), even belatedly, I was the first one to notice the peeking lace - certainly no-one else said anything. Hurriedly, I raced ahead upstairs and replaced the handkerchief, hoping that my frantic attempts to smooth out its now slightly crumpled appearance would help keep my secret

Years later, my mum and I did have a relaxed conversation about me then openly borrowing her handkerchiefs, but the teenage 'handkerchief up the sleeve' episode still didn't get a mention! She probably knew ... 🙂

It’s sort of odd how human kinks and fetishes work - the way that some of us develop so that we find a small piece of cloth to be one of the most interesting and attractive things there is.

I remember the first time I saw a woman using a handkerchief and being fascinated. And also a close male friend of mine who was a handkerchief user and also a loud, frequent sneezer.

The thought of that guy with a handkerchief carefully folded in his pocket ready in case he had to sneeze occupied my mind for a long time.

I thought that men keep their handkerchiefs in their pockets because their clothing *has* pockets, and women keep their handkerchiefs in their sleeve or their cleavage because our clothing so often doesn't come with pockets. But I'm not here to tell anyone what to do! As long as you pull out the handkerchief with a flourish, I'm happy.

@smoothwrist, what's your experience using silk handkerchiefs? I've only encountered and talked about cotton or flannel ones. How does the silk behave?

Doesn't it fall out if it's up your sleeve? Like you mean inside your sleeve? Also why in both sleeves?

I think it's cool personally because I love when people just have tissues or hankies on hand like it tells me they're either a really sneezy person or just a generous person who looks out for others which is also cute

But also idk anyone who uses handkerchiefs who isn't a fetishist at this point.. it feels like a bit of a dated thing (sorry) xD

I remember noticing my sneezy male friend of years ago had once put his handkerchief down on his bedroom desk while studying, apparently so it would be close at hand if he had to blow or sneeze.

And sure enough, not that much later on, he did pick it up to catch a big sneeze!

I’ve thought about it a lot over the years. I already liked handkerchiefs at this point in my life, but I think this one guy was probably responsible for my fetish opening up more to male sneezes.

I think your summary, @Mrs.Primrose , of where men and women variously keep their handkerchiefs (at least when we're not factoring in bags), and why, is pretty much my experience too

As for silk handkerchiefs, I'm a big fan, especially vintage ones - stylish, functional (others may disagree 🙂) and so, so soft! And, yes, high scorers with regard to eye-catching flourishes as well ...

@launderedlace, good point about bags. I do keep my fresh handkerchief in my purse. It’s mostly there so I can realistically imagine offering it to a lady in need. Or maybe a man.

How absorbent are silk handkerchiefs? And don’t they wrinkle terribly?? I have a silk, Regency-style dress and it’s terribly high maintenance.

Some day, hopefully, that imagined handkerchief offering will become a reality for you! 🤞🤞

Silk handkerchief absorbency and wrinkling? Okay, I've never conducted a scientifically-rigorous experiment (😂!) but I reckon, vintage ones at least - 'conditioning' of the fabric? - can compete with cotton on both counts. Verity Simone used to have several videos on You Tube - they seem to have disappeared, sadly - where she used a lovely pink-with-black-polkadots silk handkerchief; it seemed to stand up to her 'vigorous' use of it fairly well 🙂
