Hey guys. So, I wrote a thing. Actually I wrote it in my first language then translated and expanded it, so I hope I didn't mess it up in translation.   I have been suffering from one of the worst bouts of writer's block ever, I really hope I'll be able to get around it this way, at least. 

This is just a simple scene in the life of a married couple's family life.

It’s when she’s done cleaning up after dinner that it’s clear to her that she’s next. The kids have been tossing the cold back and forth amongst themselves for a couple of weeks until they’re finally all well again. She has miraculously managed to dodge it.

Until now.

If she’s being completely honest with herself, there has been a light tickle in the back of her nose all afternoon, not strong enough to make her sneeze, hardly strong enough to be distracting, even.

This is far more intense than that. This is a sharp pinprick that efficiently pierces all her ability and willpower to force the sneeze into submission.

She turns away from the kitchen sink, cups both hands over nose and mouth, takes a deep, shivering breath and sneezes violently.

“Huh-ISSCHuh! AhhhISSSHHew!” She sniffles, then immediately snaps forward with another double. “Huh-EESSCHH! Hah-haaISSSHHoo!”

She lowers her damp hands but has to get them up again and sneeze for a fifth time, and oh God, is this ever going to stop?!

“AaaERRGSSHHoo!”

When she, watery-eyed and with a runny nose, manages to get herself back under control, she knows just what to expect the coming days. It feels like she barely has kicked one cold when the next gets to her. It’s one of the downsides to motherhood that no one really tells you about in advance.

She sneezes again, this time not even bothering to cover.

“HehhTSSSHHHuh!”

She shakes her head as if to clear it, blinks away newly formed tears, grabs a couple of tissues and blows her nose.

At that moment the front door opens. It's her husband, back from his business trip earlier than expected, and the first thing he does is to walk right up to her intending to give her a kiss. She turns her head away from him and places a hand on his chest to keep him at a distance.

“I’m coming down with a cold,” she says, with thinly veiled annoyance. “Again.”

“Hm,” he says. “But we have another problem.” He gently strokes a strand of raven hair out of her face. “You see, I would like to kiss my wife. Even if she has a cold.”

“You’re going to get the same thing I have,” she warns him, but he only laughs.

“I’ll take my chances,” he says brightly and kisses her.

No matter how much she may want to concentrate on the kiss, a much bigger part of her focus is directed at the waxing and waning irritation in her nose. It’s definitely no featherlight tickle any longer, it’s more of a burning, and the urge to sneeze flares up like embers roused by a gust of wind.

She barely has time to break off the kiss and turn away from him before the fiery tingle overtakes her once more.

“I have to sneeze agaahhEESSHHHoo!”

“Bless you!” He puts his hand on her forehead for a moment. “I don’t think you have a fever, at least.”

She recognises the twinkle in his eyes when he continues; “but if you want to, I’ll be happy to get you warmed up when we go to bed.”

She knows exactly what that means in marriage shorthand, and sexy is the last thing she feels like right now.

“I believe you wouldn't particularly enjoy that with me sneezing and sniffling all over the place.”

He smiles a little, and his eyes sparkle even more.

“Mrs Tyler believes such silly things.”

She considers for a moment. He’s been away for several weeks and it’s been lonely in bed. Oh well, if he wants to gamble with the risk of catching this, fine.

“Don’t complain when you catch it, then,” she tells him, and he chuckles and kisses her again.

“I promise.”

He places a soft kiss on the tip of her nose, which will soon take on a deep, rosy shade, and she feels yet another sneeze begins to build from this light touch alone.

He puts a finger under her quivering nostrils and it’s enough to make the immediate urge go away, even if she knows she’s going to sneeze before long either way.

“Go get ready for bed, honey," he whispers. "I'll put the kids to bed and then I'll join you."

She nods, and this time she’s the one kissing him.

“I’m glad you’re home.”

He smiles.

“So am I. Right on time to take good care of you." 

She snorts. 

"And share my cold."

"That, too."

Thank you! Not sure there will be more, though, I mostly write oneshots because my attention span is about as long as omg a shiny squirrel!    Seriously though, I'm glad you liked it!

Tack!  Usually I write them in English right away - not that I don't mess up language-wise from time to time anyway - but it's so easy to get lost in translating expressions and suddenly realise you've mixed them into something really weird without even noticing.

I can't put my finger on it, but something about this piece has the zeitgeist of the 50s. So sweet and domestic. And HOT! I'm not sure how you managed to balance it just right, but you did so beautifully.

I always enjoy it when a character has sneezed to the point of not even bothering to attempt to cover it. Almost as if they are exhausted, and the sneezes have gained the upper hand  Great little piece, as usual
