SneezeAbbie Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 (edited) So given the climate of this year and living in a country where it seems to be “do as I say and not as I do”, I’ve not been feeling particularly festive and decided to write this story to hopefully lift spirits for 2022! PART ONE You’d think that once Christmas Day was over and you finished slaving over your Christmas dinner, hosting for what seems to be Jesus and his 10,000 men who you cannot stand that you were done with events for the year. Nope, it seems that society has introduced the idea of a New Year’s Eve party, reproducing British drinking culture. And that was exactly where Hannah and Edith were heading, starting the new year in style. Edith was sat at her desk, waiting for her ashy blonde hair to cool from her favourite curling iron. She wrapped a silver cross necklace across her delicate neck inherited from her great auntie Mary. As soon as she slipped into her black satin dress, she felt out of place. Capitulating her mind back to this time last year when her tears were streaked of black mascara after a certain asshole dumped her over text, kick starting her journey of self-discovery as a lesbian. A blend of overwhelm and imposter syndrome made her feel in the present day like she wasn’t worthy of love. It seemed easier to sit in her feelings of uncertainty in her introverted state, rather than get ready for a night to remember. HUHp-stchoo! The sneeze jerked Edith out of her self-destructive thoughts, turning from her desk to see her girlfriend walk out of the bathroom and wrap her arms around Edith’s neck. Masculine in nature, Hannah wore a lace bodysuit with black trousers and heels with her soft brown hair in a loose bun. “Hey” she murmured, burying her face into her head. “Looking forward to tonight then?” Edith enquired. “You bet! Apparently, Mia and George are gonna be there too” “Ah nice, we’ll have to catch up with them during the night. What’s it been? About 2 months since we last saw them”. “That long? Gosh, it felt like j-just last week when we were ov’hhh… HUT-schew!” She was just able to duck into her elbow. “Bless you hun”. “Thank you” Hannah acknowledged “when we were over at theirs for dinner” lightly sniffling. “Uh-huh,” Edith agreed whilst applying her false eyelashes. Suddenly, Hannah gasped and sneezed into cupped hands “hAPT-schoo… hAT-schew… ‘Tchew… he..heh..” Edith was mesmerised into silence as she saw her girlfriend bend at the waist for the final sneeze “haAEEsch-ew holy shit!”. God she was hot, she didn’t know where to look. “Ready to go sneezy?” She teased as she threw her bag over her shoulder. Hannah just rolled her eyes as she headed downstairs, giving her nose a quick blow in the process. Edited December 28, 2021 by SneezeAbbie

SneezeAbbie Posted December 30, 2021 Author Posted December 30, 2021 (edited) PART TWO Edith tended to notice things, Hannah picked up on that from the beginning and was not willing to show her vulnerability. Especially not on a night like this. The girls agreed to meet Mia and George at LIQUID, one of the local bars in the area and Hannah was determined to not let the start of a measly cold spoil the night. Taking her eyes off the pavement, she noticed that her nose was starting to run. She presses the back of her wrist onto her nose leaving an engrossing gleam on her skin. ‘Ugh,’ she groaned before wiping her wrist on her dress. Hannah felt herself begin to smile as she notices Mia around the corner, standing in a red bodycon dress and white trainers. In reality, she would’ve loved to be more than friends if it wasn’t for Edith but alas she wasn’t attracted to women. So instead, we get to witness a display of friendship. “Hey, lovely!” Mia notices and approaches Hannah for a hug. “Thank you for coming, it’s been ages since we last met”. “I kdow -snnff” wincing at the sound of her sudden congestion “combe on id, I’ll ged us a round of drindks” Hannah gestured towards the entrance of the bar. Considering it was a popular bar and almost tourist spot for the local University students, LIQUID was simplistic but aesthetically pleasing with a theme of pink LED signs, lighting and a light smoke cannon but not in a way that was overwhelmingly dark. Everyone sat in the corner around a bench whilst Hannah ordered drinks “Please cand I ged two gind and lebondades and a vodk..eh…eh…’scuse be”. She can no longer blink against the irritation as she swivels away into her elbow “hUP-tchoo!”. “Add a vodka coke -snnff”. Returning to their table, the girls began to reflect on the tough year they had had. “Thank god I’m not working tonight” Mia was relieved “A&E will be full of alcohol poisoning and overdoses tonight, and I do not want to be in the firing line”. “I honestly don’t get how you do your job” chimed Charlotte. “Dissociation and wine,” Mia said through a chuckle, continuing to sip her vodka and coke. That all too familiar tickle in her nose soon arose, ‘oh no, please no’ she thought frantically. Her brown eyes narrowed as she hitched ‘hah…ha…haAEEsch-ew!”. And just at that second, she rushed to the bathroom. Edited December 30, 2021 by SneezeAbbie
SneezeAbbie Posted January 1, 2022 Author Posted January 1, 2022 PART THREE “What the hell was that about?” skipping all pretence of manners, Edith stormed into the bathroom to confront her girlfriend. Hannah was stood in front of the bathroom mirror, holding a paper towel in her hand. However, she’s plagued with another sneeze; her face fell as her brown eyes narrowed slightly and her mouth parted. Feeble fingers rushing to unravel the paper towel and place it onto her twitching nose. “ha-ngxt”. “Shit, I’m so sorry love”. What can she do? Edith filled up with guilt; sure she didn’t realise how sick her girlfriend seemed at the time, but she didn’t need to snap at her. Hannah was about to reply but the haziness in her features gave away the anticipation of what looked like cold-ridden desperation. She looked up towards the light overhead. Her nose, (now pink in colour) flared before once again sneezing into the paper towel “haAEEsch-ew”. Letting out a heavy sigh, she turns to Edith who is now debating wether to stand there like a gaping fish or scoop her up and carry her home. Poor thing looked exhausted. “Don’t even bother” Edith reassured her “Id’s just beed like dhis all day” Hannah sighed “I thoughd I’d be okay for donighd, but I’ve just beed feeling worse”. Seeing her girlfriend so vulnerable sparked a light within Edith’s heart, her left hand reaching out to feel her forehead. To Hannah, her fingers were elegant and soft, soft enough to make her melt and distract herself from her sick state. Even for just a few seconds. “And you’ve got a fever” Edith frowns. “We should probably head oud dow, Bia will wonder where we’ve beed” Hannah was about to leave the bathroom when Edith stood by the door. “You’re not going anywhere, except straight to bed”. “H’EHsschuh! -snnff ‘kay” She quickly smirked when she knew Hannah was too tired to argue ‘You know, as insanely selfish as this sounds, I’m getting a real kick from this dominance business’ Edith thought to herself. Soon, both girls headed out to say goodbye to Mia. “Hey Mia, we’re gonna go, Hannah’s not feeling well. I’ll see when we can reschedule once she’s recovered” “Oh that’s such a shame, make sure she gets lots of soup. It’s not exactly enjoyable but it’s easy to stomach down and it’ll easy any congestion she has” Mia advised whilst drinking the remainder of her vodka coke. Edith laughed a bit before replying “Yeah I will do, don’t worry about us” “Feel better soon!” Mia shouted her farewells to Hannah.
SneezeAbbie Posted June 15, 2022 Author Posted June 15, 2022 PART FOUR (5 months later) Defeated. That’s how Hannah felt. She put up a pathetic fight against an inevitable New Years cold. Ever since she noticed the first sign of a scratchy throat, she tried it all. Vitamin C, Vicks, tea, the lot. But it all came tumbling down thanks to her tickly nose. “Huh-schew!” Hannah sneezed into a tissue held out by her girlfriend “Bless you, love” she cooed, running her fingers through Hannah’s silky brown hair and leaving a delicate kiss on her forehead. “Uuuugh thadk you *snff*” Hannah groaned, slumped down against the pillows of her girlfriends bed. “You kdow *snff* you dod’t have to bless be every tibe I sdeeze” “I know I don’t have to, I like to.” Edith murmured, “now let me take care of you gorgeous” Just then Charlotte’s sinuses triggered a familiar urge of dread, she turned away from her girlfriends face, fingertips pressed against a fresh tissue. “Heh-ISSchew!” ‘Yuck’ she thought while assessing the damage; feeling far from ‘gorgeous’ she thought that a shower would make her feel a tad bit better. “Midd if I use your shower?” Hannah asked while dragging herself out of bed. Edith looked surprised that her girlfriend felt the need to ask for her approval “Of course you can, I’m not suddenly going to say no when you’ve been using my shower for the last 9 months”. Hannah awkward giggled it off before coughing into her elbow, it sounded chesty and Edith was trying not to wince. “Go on now” she gestured towards the bedroom door. As Hannah was getting in the shower, Edith headed downstairs to the kitchen where was making her girlfriend a cup of tea. Being sure to add a generous amount of honey and lemon to help the cough that she was developing.
