sneezeboy
Having seen references to "open mouth sneeze", what is it exactly? I mean, a person's mouth does open when sneezing. Edited March 26, 2022 by sneezeboy Link to comment
oOMariusOo
I don't quite know what you are referring to. The mouth opens with each inspiration, then closes by expelling. However, some people sneeze with their mouth open. Their sneezes sound more like a loud scream. It's pretty rare but I've seen it once or twice. Maybe that's what you're talking about ? gryffin
I guess that might be it? Some people just sneeze like that. One of the builders in the house next to mine last summer - a Pole in his mid-twenties, who clearly had bad allergies - used to sneeze like KHAAAAAAAA!! I never saw him from the front when he did that, but his mouth sounded open all right... (When I was sitting in the garden - um, only to do my work in the open air, what are you thinking? - and he knew I was there, he used to constrain his sneezes into a tamer but still forceful tchhshh! Βless his heart.) Link to comment
NoV
I think it's usually just referring to the act of making no attempt to muffle, stifle or cover a sneeze. The sneeze is usually expelled through the mouth with enough force that it forces it open. Link to comment
SFDON
As others have said, I it would be if the person leaves their mouth open during a sneeze. It’s almost if they sneeze from their throat and when I have seen them it sounds kinda like lions roar lol. Link to comment

The jaw naturally closes as the fauces and soft palate seal the passage to the mouth so that air can get directed into the nose. Sneezing with an open mouth means preventing the jaw from closing so that more air can escape from the mouth. Doctors may advise to sneeze with an open mouth after rhinoplasty or surgery to repair a deviated septum. Link to comment
Femsnzspry
It's the most practical way to sneeze to not cover and project saliva and mucus droplets everywhere . Aka uncovered sneeze or freedom sneeze Link to comment
