jem
Hello, everyone! I'm back with a new story. I'm sorry @MIN to have taken so long to write this. It was prompted quite a while ago, but I wanted to get to know the characters, as we talked about. Turns out I really like the show. I've seen quite a few seasons now. Avalance is a remarkable couple and a very satisfying ship to watch. Thank you very much for suggesting! I see why you consider it a comfort show. It's such a nice watch. This is very loosely based around the events of Season 3, Episode 15 of Legends of Tomorrow. I tried to not include *too* much about the story, as it's hard to follow if you don't watch the show. The first chapter is heavily show-based, but I just wanted it to provide a foundation for the fic. I also kind of sped up the Avalance timeline and incorporated their advanced relationship into this fic. This doesn't matter if you haven't seen the show, but I didn't wanna confuse anyone who has. Anyway, enough rambling. I hope you enjoy. Please tell me if you do since I love hearing from all of you! I'll be posting the first two chapters back-to-back since the first chapter doesn't have much mention of illness. SPOILERS FOR LEGENDS OF TOMORROW SEASON 3 EPISODE 15 CHAPTER 1 “Sara!” Ava yells. She runs to her girlfriend’s side and kneels beside her on the floor. Sara has bonded with the death totem and her soul is trapped in Mallus’ realm. Ava and the Legends have been fighting to save Sara from Mallus, a powerful time demon. In Mallus’ vast realm, a trapped Sara looks around after hearing the echo of a faint voice. It sounds familiar. “Does Ava even know who you really are, Sara? What you’ve done? What are you gonna tell her?” It’s Nora Darkh, a witch who Mallus is using to help him escape from the dimension he’s imprisoned in. “The totem was wrong?” While her questions are menacing and taunting in nature, her voice is steady. Sara looks at Nora with tears in her eyes. She’s beginning to question herself. She’s done many bad things, things that Ava doesn’t know about. Things Ava can never know about. “You aren’t a killer?” Nora continues taunting her. Back at the Waverider, Ava rips the death totem from Sara’s neck, feeling helpless. Ava deals with Earthly criminals. Magic, demons, and spirit realms are out of her wheelhouse. She doesn’t know how to save Sara. She doesn’t even know what she’s up against. All she knows is that she cares for Sara and she can’t lose her. In the realm, Sara feels the totem leave her neck. She reaches up and feels where it was, feeling the remnants of Ava’s touch. “The totem’s power is within you, Sara,” Nora says. “All you have to do is decide: a life free of pain and regret and with us or the tormented half-life you’re living now.” “Sara!” Sara hears Ava calling out to her from the Waverider. “I know you are still in there,” Ava says with a shaky breath. “You are the strongest, most fearless person I’ve ever met.” The words echo throughout the realm. Sara listens intently, confused about what she should do. She could be free of her past that’s tormented her. She can do what she’s trained to do best: kill. It’s the only thing she’s good at, after all. But she doesn’t want to kill people. She doesn’t want to live without feeling anything. She can’t be that robotic assassin all over again. She’s worked too hard to free herself of that life. “You never back down.” Ava’s voice calls out. “Don’t you remember?” Ava cries, leaning over Sara’s spiritless body. “When did a Legend ever go quietly? Her voice is choked and strained with emotion. “I’m here.” She takes Sara’s hand in hers, kissing it. “I’m here, Sara, and I need you to come back to me. I need you to come home.” Ava pleads, looking down at the unrecognizable Sara. Ava takes her hand and places it on Sara’s chest. “Can’t you feel me?” Back in Mallus’ realm, Sara jumps from pressure she feels on her chest. She gasps, clasping onto the spot. “No,” Sara tells Nora. “You’re making a mistake,” Nora says, her voice seething with anger. “No,” Sara continues, “to a life without pain or regret. No to being a demon’s lackey and no to bringing more death into this world.” “You could have everything,” Nora says through clenched teeth. On the Waverider, Sara’s spiritless body hovers in the air. Ava watches in horror. After a few seconds, Sara’s body is released and she falls to the ground. She’s back in control of her body. She looks at her hands, then to Ava, who wipes her tears away and smiles. “You saved me again,” Sara says through a grin. “I had a little help,” Ava says before embracing Sara in a hug. Sara and Ava lie together in bed. Sara sleeps restlessly, tossing and turning throughout the night. Her dreams are plagued with memories of being trapped in Mallus’ realm. She dreams of her solitary life as an assassin, a life without Ava. “No!” Sara yells out, waking herself and Ava up. “It’s okay. Hey, I’m right here. It’s okay.” Ava puts her hand on Sara’s chest, comforting her. “I thought you gave nightmares, not have them.” Sara manages to smile while trying to control her heavy breathing. “First time for everything.” “Wanna talk about it?” “No, I’m fine.” Ava pushes Sara’s hair out of her face, noticing her forehead feels warm. She frowns. “Oh, babe, I think you have a fever. You feel warm.” Ava says glumly. “I’m okay,” Sara says, shrugging off Ava’s touch. “Gideon, check Sara’s vitals, please.” Ava asks the ship’s super-computer. “Captain Lance’s current body temperature is 100.4 and her white blood cell count is higher than normal.” “Thanks, Gideon,” Ava says with a smirk. “Narc computer,” Sara sighs. “I’m just tired. Some sleep will help. And just maybe you cuddling with me will release endorphins or something, I don’t know. All I know is that you make me feel better.” Sara looks at Ava, then Ava’s lips. She leans forward, giving her girlfriend a gentle kiss. “Hmm, okay, you convinced me,” Ava concedes. “If your fever’s not down tomorrow, I’m taking care of you until you feel better, okay? I know you’re a captain and a legend, but illnesses are no joke. This could be a cold from hell. Oh my god, do you think it is? Who knows what’s in Mallus’ creepy realm?” Sara adores when Ava goes off on a supernatural tangent. Sara giggles. “Nah, it’s nothing to worry about. Promise.” The pair lie back down, comfortably cuddling together. “‘Night, babe,” Sara says with a yawn. “Goodnight, baby,” Ava replies, with a kiss to the top of Sara’s head. Link to comment
jem
CHAPTER 2 The next morning, Sara wakes up, really wishing she didn’t. Her head is pounding and she feels hot. Her throat is dry and sore. She doesn’t feel as if she’s slept at all. With a groan, she rolls on to her back and rubs her temples. “Morning, sunshine!” Ava cheerfully walks into the room, carrying a tray of breakfast and juice. Sara hurries and stretches her arms with a yawn so Ava doesn’t notice she was massaging her aching head. “Is that for me?” Sara asks in a flirty tone. Her voice is lower and more raspy than normal. “Sure is,” the tall blonde responds. “Gotta get you back to your ass-kicking self. How are you feeling?” “I’m fine.” Ava looks her up and down. “You’re fine?” She reaches forward and feels Sara’s forehead again. “Still warm. Gideon–” “Hey, come on, don’t bring Gideon into this. I’m fine, baby, I swear. I’m a little tired and achy, but otherwise I’m good. I just wanna spend my day with you.” Sara’s charm overpowers Ava yet again. “Okay, no Gideon. I do want you to eat your breakfast though. Need you to be nice and strong.” “Deal,” Sara says, beaming up at her girlfriend. “Good,” Ava smiles back. “Here you go, love.” She hands the tray to Sara. “Thank you.” “You’re welcome.” The two sit together in bed. Ava reads up on Time Bureau paperwork while Sara eats her breakfast. Sara can feel a tickle growing in the back of her throat. She sips on her juice, wincing slightly at the acidity of it. The tickle becomes too much and she clears her throat, hoping it’ll go away. Instead, it sends her into a coughing fit. Ava looks up from her paperwork and puts a hand on her girl’s back, rubbing slow circles. “You okay?” “Yeah, I’m good,” she splutters with a few straggling coughs. “Went down the wrong way.” Ava tsks sympathetically, pouting her lips. Sara sets her breakfast tray aside and snuggles down into bed. She tucks herself up to Ava, who greets her with a smile and a kiss to the head. The small blonde closes her eyes with a content sigh and relaxes into her girlfriend’s side. Ava looks down at Sara with an affectionate grin on her face, forgetting her paperwork as her gaze gets caught on her sleepy girl. So cute, she thinks to herself. Sara begins to feel a wispy tickle in her nose. She paws at it and sniffs, which only irritates her sinuses further. “Hhtkxshh!” Sara muffles her sneeze with her sleeve, not wanting to mist Ava’s leg. “Oh, bless you, cutie.” Ava gushes over her girl. “Thanks. Sorry, no warning with that one,” Sara says softly, her voice still heavy with rasp. “That’s okay, babe.” Ava runs her hand through Sara’s hair, slowly and gently. Sara hums happily in response, scooting closer to Ava. Just as they begin to relax, a heavy knock rattles at their door. “Come in,” Ava answers. “Miss Lance? Director Sharpe? It’s Gary.” The time agent walks into the room while covering his eyes with his hand. “Sorry to drop in on you like this.” “What are you doing? Open your eyes, Gary,” Ava says. “Oh, hi. Didn’t wanna portal in and catch you and Miss Lance… you know..” He makes motions with his hands while raising his eyebrows suggestively. “Gary, I wouldn’t have invited you in if we were…. busy,” Ava replies. “Right,” he says. “Director Sharpe, you’re needed at the Time Bureau. Ava looks at Sara, not sure what to say. “You should go, Ava. I’m okay. I’ll just hang out here.” Sara gives her girlfriend a small smile. “Are you sure, babe?” “Yeah, I’m fine. I swear.” “And you’ll stay in bed and rest? And not try to go on missions or anything while I’m gone, right?” Ava looks pointedly at Sara. “I won’t. Scout’s honor.” Sara relaxes into bed, pulling the covers up to her face. She bats her eyes innocently at Ava. Ava inspects her for a moment. “Okay, fine. I’ll go. I’ll be back tonight, but if you need anything, please let me know. I’m only a click of a button away.” “I will.” “Okay,” Ava says. She leans in to give her girlfriend a kiss and sees Gary smiling widely with a look of giddy anticipation on his face. “Gary, go on. I’m right behind you.” “Yes, Director Sharpe.” Gary opens a portal and walks through to the Time Bureau. Ava looks back to Sara and kisses her. Once. Twice. And a quick third time for good measure. “See you soon,” Ava says. “Okay, see you later,” Sara replies with a warm smile. Ava steals a few more glances at Sara, then turns and goes through the portal, closing it behind her. The second Ava’s out of sight, Sara flips the blankets off and stands up. She stands too quickly and sways for a moment before the dizziness goes away. She really has no reason to stay in bed all day if Ava isn’t with her, so she might as well get some work done. As she’s getting dressed, she realizes her nose is beginning to run. She sniffs and rubs her nose, annoyed at the irritation. “Heh… Htchxshiew! *Snff*” Sara groans, pinching her nose between her fingers. As soon as she releases her fingers, the tickle strikes back, pitching her forward yet again. “Hhhtxishh!!” “Gesundheit, Captain Lance,” Gideon says. Sara chuckles, surprised by the super-computer’s manners. “Thanks, Gideon.” “You’re most welcome. Would you like me to inform the others of your illness as to prevent any further disruptions?” “No, it’s okay. I’m not sick.” “It appears that your temperature is up from yesterday and that you have increased symptoms, including congestion, sneeziness, and a cough. Are you sure you’re all right, Captain?” “Okay, yeah, I’ve got a bug, but it’s nothing to worry about and it’s definitely nothing to tell the team about. Okay, Gideon?” Sara uses her most stern, authoritative voice. “Yes, Captain.” “Goo- hheh.. Good.. Hhtkxshh!” Sara sniffles, wiping her sleeve under her nose. Sara realizes she was a little harsh and sighs. “Sorry I snapped at you, Gideon. I’m a little tired,” she admits. “That’s quite all right.” Sara nods and finishes getting dressed. “Oh, and gesundheit.” “Thank you. Now, why don’t we go see what kind of trouble the others are getting themselves into?” “Lead the way, Captain Lance.” *TBC* Link to comment

jem
Hi, everyone! Thank you all so much for your comments. I enjoy hearing what you think. I've got another chapter ready to post. Happy reading! CHAPTER 3 Sara walks through the halls of the ship and onto the bridge, where everyone is gathered for a meeting. “Our fearless leader. Hi, Sara!” Ray smiles at her with his golden retriever-like enthusiasm. “Hi, Ray,” Sara replies, forcing a smile. As the team discusses an anachronism that’s popped up, Sara struggles to pay attention. Her head is throbbing and her throat is scratchy. Her limbs feel heavy and sore. “Sara?” Nate, another one of the legends, speaks up. “What?” Sara asks, shaken out of her brain fog. “Grodd’s going after Barry in 1979 and Amaya stole the jumpship. What’s the plan?” Sara looks around at everyone in the room, thinking of what to do. “Okay, uh…” she says. “Nate, I want you to go talk some sense into Amaya. The rest of us are going after Grodd.” Sara could not be more tired. It’s one thing to be trapped in a spirit realm while your body is being controlled by a demon. It’s a whole other thing to have to fight a giant mutant gorilla. Every inch of her body is aching. She’s struggling to even put one foot in front of the other. As she shuffles down the ship’s hallway towards her room, a portal opens and Ava walks through it. “Sara,” Ava says cheerfully. As she inspects her girlfriend, her smile turns into a frown. “What happened?” “Had an anachronism. It was Grodd. Turns out he’s still big and strong.” Every word feels like barbed wire against Sara's throat. “Oh, babe.” Ava pulls Sara into a hug. The short blonde practically melts into Ava’s arms. Ava leans back and looks into Sara’s eyes. “I think you need a break. I also think you won’t take a break as long as you’re on the ship. How about you come back to my place, hm? We can get takeout, watch a movie… cuddle. All that good stuff. What do you say?” Sara swallows and winces at the pain. She just nods and falls back into her girl’s arms. “Okay, let’s go.” Ava opens up a portal and leads them into her apartment. She walks Sara to the couch and lets her down slowly. Seeing Sara like this, so weak, is unsettling to Ava. She’s so used to Sara being fierce and tough at all times. Sara begins to cough, jolting Ava out of her thoughts. She gets some water and gives it to Sara, who sips on it graciously. “Poor thing,” Ava cooes. Sara nods her head back and forth before clearing her throat. “I’m fine. Just tired.” “Respectfully, babe, you are not fine. You look like you could collapse any minute.” Sara looks like she wants to say something back, but instead she goes back to sipping her water. “Right,” Ava smiles at her girlfriend’s stubbornness. “What do you wanna order? Pizza, Thai…? “I’m not hungry. Whatever you want is fine.” “Well, when did you last eat?” Sara hasn’t eaten since breakfast, but she doesn’t want to admit that to Ava. “Actually, pizza sounds good. The usual?” “You got it.” Ava kisses Sara on the head then walks into the kitchen to call the order in. Sara kicks her shoes off and settles into the couch. She closes her eyes and massages her temples, wallowing in the slight relief it provides. “Does your head hurt?” Sara opens her eyes and sees Ava standing over her, a worried look on her face. “Just a little,” Sara says quietly. “Lemme get you some medicine.” Sara blinks slowly, struggling to keep her eyes open. Ava returns within a few moments, holding out a couple pain relievers. She helps Sara sit up and hands her the glass of water. “The food will be here in about 30 minutes,” Ava says. “Do you wanna shower or take a nap?” “I’ll just lay here and rest for a bit.” “Okay, let’s get you settled.” Ava gets Sara a pillow and blanket and tucks her in snug. “I’ll wake you when the food’s here, okay?” Sara nods and closes her eyes. Within seconds, a heaviness washes over Sara and she falls asleep. After what seems like a minute, the doorbell rings. Sara’s eyes shoot open and she panics for a second before she remembers where she is. She pulls her arms out from under the blanket and rubs her eyes slowly. Ava pays for the food then brings it over to her sleepy girl. She puts a slice of pizza on a plate and, as she’s handing it to Sara, she sees her winding up for a sneeze. “Htchxshiew!” Sara turns away from Ava, sneezing into her elbow. “Bless you, babe.” Sara stays turned around, her breath hitching. “Heh… H’hhtxishh!” “Bless you!” “Thank you,” Sara sighs, turning back around. She sniffs and rubs her nose against her sleeve. “Here you go.” Ava hands Sara a plate. “Thanks.” Ava sits next to Sara and the two cuddle close together, watching TV and eating dinner. Sara takes small bites from her pizza, dreading the pain that swallowing will cause her throat. She’s not even hungry, she’s only eating to appease Ava’s worries. Ava doesn’t need anything to worry about. Sara already feels as if she doesn’t deserve Ava, that she’s a burden to her girlfriend. Sara has done a lot of unspeakable things and she’s endured lots of pain. She can’t stand the thought of Ava being hurt because of her. “Are you not hungry, Sara?” Ava’s voice breaks through Sara’s inner monologue. “Oh, uh….” A cough cuts her off. She turns away from Ava, coughing into her shirt. The fit makes her ribs ache and her eyes water. Ava’s already got an arm around her, rubbing her back. “Babe,” Ava says sympathetically. “You’re really sick. I’m sorry I don’t have any real medicine. I don’t spend much time here…. I should go get some.” “No, I don’t feel too bad, just a tickle in my throat,” Sara replies. “And a headache,” Ava adds. “Okay, and a headache. The pain meds will kick in soon, though. I just don’t want you to leave right now,” Sara admits. Ava looks at Sara, her heart aching for her. If she could, she would switch places with Sara in a heartbeat. She’d gladly take away her girl’s pain. “Well, what can I do to make you feel better, sweetie?” Sara thinks for a moment. “Can we take a bath? Ava smiles widely and stands up. She leans over and takes Sara’s face in her hands and kisses her gently. Only Ava has the power to infuse a kiss with so much passion, love, and caring. It’s truly remarkable. “I’ll go run the bath, baby.” “Thank you,” Sara says through a smile. No amount of illness or pain could ever prevent her from breaking into a giddy smile when her girlfriend gives her a kiss. As Ava goes to run the bath, Sara leans into the couch, still reeling from the butterflies Ava’s kiss caused. *TBC* Link to comment

jem
Hello and happy Thursday (or Friday)! I hope everyone has been well. I'm super excited to post this chapter and I'm even more excited to hear everyone's reactions! (There's a spoiler in this chapter pertaining to Ava's past. If you haven't seen the second half of season 3 and are planning on doing so, maybe skip this chapter. Otherwise, happy reading! :)) *SPOILERS FOR SEASON 3 EPISODE 16 OF LEGENDS OF TOMORROW* CHAPTER 4 The two women sit contently in the bath. Sara’s form fits perfectly into Ava’s, as if they were perfectly crafted for each other. Sara can feel the warm water working away her pain. Her muscles are beginning to relax as the built up stress leaves her body. As she sits here, Sara realizes that she’s truly happy. It’s been a long time since she’s felt this way. She looks up at Ava, who is already looking down at her lovingly. “Thank you for being here for me, Ava.” Ava, while confused, smiles at her girlfriend. “Of course I’m here. I love you, you goober.” She laughs. “You do?” Sara asks innocently. “I do,” she responds confidently. “I love you, too. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been this happy.” Ava smiles, a sad thought passing through her head. She’s never been this happy. If it takes the rest of her life, Ava’s going to make sure Sara’s always happy. She deserves happiness. She deserves love. Ava presses her lips to Sara’s head. She kisses her head, then her temple, then her cheek. She moves down to her neck, planting sweet, tender kisses everywhere she possibly can. Sara smiles, feeling… cherished. Only a moment this perfect could be derailed by her and her sabotaging nose. A wispy, fleeting tickle pries at her. Finally, it becomes too strong. “Hheh sorry-” Sara leans forward, clasping her fingers around her nostrils. “H’gksht!” “Oww,” Sara groans. She moves her jaw around, trying to release the tension in her ears. “Bless you. You okay, babe?” “Yeah, that just hurt my head.” “I don’t want you doing that again, baby. You could hurt your ears.” Sniffling, Sara relaxes back into Ava, trying to regain the sense of comfort she had. “Didn’t wanna sneeze all over you,” Sara sighs. “I don’t care about that! I’ve been kissing you and cuddling with you. I mean, we’re in the bath together. I don’t think we could get closer if we tried.” “Oh, you’re right. I’m gonna get you sick.” Sara starts to move away from Ava, who instinctively wraps an arm around her waist. “Hey, hey, I don’t care about catching your cold, even if it is from hell. I love you. How many times do you need to hear that before you start to believe it? I’m not going anywhere.” Sara’s eyes well up as she looks up at Ava. Unfortunately, this causes her nose to run even more. As Sara reaches up to pinch her fingers around her nose, Ava stops her. “No, no, I don’t want you to hurt your head. Let it out.” Sara takes in shallow, teasing breaths, causing the water to ripple. She aims her head down towards the water. “Htchxshiew!” “Bless you.” “*Snff* Thank you. That was gross,” Sara laughs, prompting Ava to as well. “We’ve seen worse, babe.” They both laugh as Sara scoots back towards Ava, nestling herself under her girlfriend’s frame. They sit in a comfortable silence, basking in each other’s company. After draining the bath, the two women relax in bed, snuggled up closely to each other. Ava sits against the wall while Sara props herself up under Ava’s arm. The pair decided to watch Pitch Perfect, but only after Ava verbally agreed to not tell the rest of the team that they watched it. “I got a rep to maintain,” Sara says. “Yeah, whatever, babe.” Ava laughs. “It’s a good movie, it’s got music, and it has Anna Kendrick. What’s not to love?” “We’ll see. I’m not a huge musical fan.” “Okay, if you don’t like it, I’ll make it up to you.” “You’ll make it up to me?” “Yeah, whatever you want, just name it.” “Whatever I want, huh? Well, I like the sound of that…” Sara gives Ava a smooch on the neck, leading to some playful back-and-forth kisses. Before long, Sara’s cold symptoms catch up to her and she’s coughing into her hoodie. Well, Ava’s hoodie. The tall blonde graciously placed the hoodie over her girl’s head once she saw she was shivering after their bath. “We better cool it,” Ava says. “I nearly forgot you were sick.” “I did too,” Sara replies. “You make it easy to forget.” They smile at each other. They’re so cute, it’s nearly sickening. “All right, let’s go Pitch Perfect,” Ava says, grinning. They watch the movie and Ava hums along to nearly every performance. It’s clear to Sara that she’s seen this movie several times. To her surprise, Sara actually enjoys the movie. Although, she would enjoy it more if her head wasn’t aching. The pain relievers didn’t do much to relieve her pain. She can feel her symptoms getting worse. Since laying down, she’s felt a slow congestion creeping up on her. Her throat keeps bothering her, making her cough more and more incessantly. Every time Sara ducks her head into her elbow, Ava places all her attention on her girl, rubbing her back and handing her water. While she’s embarrassed about being sick, Sara loves the attention she’s getting from her girlfriend. It’s been a long time since anyone’s cared for her. It makes her feel loved. “I don’t like the way that cough sounds,” Ava says unhappily. Sara’s recovering from her coughing fit, drinking from the glass of water Ava provided for her. “Sorry,” Sara responds quietly. “Don’t be sorry, baby! I should be the one who’s sorry. I can’t believe I don’t have any cold medicine here. I’m prepared for any kind of storm, attack, or disaster, but I don’t have cough syrup...” Ava frowns. “Not your fault. I mean, have you ever been sick before?” Sara asks. Ava thinks for a moment. Sara loves the face Ava makes when she’s thinking hard. It’s really cute. “Oh my god, I don’t think I have. I guess Rip didn’t include that in my memories…” Ava trails off, becoming sad. She recently found out she’s a clone and that her memories have been fabricated. She worries she’s not real, that she’s not a person. Sara can see that Ava’s doubting herself. Before Ava’s trail of bad thoughts gets too far, Sara speaks. “Ava, it doesn’t matter where you’re from. You are real, you’re extraordinary, you’re my girlfriend and I love you.” It’s important to Sara that she reminds Ava that she’s loved. If Ava even feels a fraction of what Sara feels for her, then she needs to hear it. Hell, Sara would yell it from the rooftops if it made her girl happy. Ava continues to look away from Sara, but Sara gently puts a finger under her chin, guiding Ava so they’re looking into each other’s eyes. Ava clears her throat, feeling a lump beginning to form. “I love you, too.” They look at each other for a moment. Sara searches Ava’s face, hoping she’s said enough to calm Ava’s insecurity. She sees Ava’s eyes tear up, so Sara turns and hugs her, burrowing her face into Ava’s neck. As they embrace, Sara can feel a tickle flaring up in her sinuses. Not now, she thinks. She makes the mistake of breathing in through her nose, igniting the irritation. She quickly breaks off the hug, confusing and startling Ava. “Hhhtxishh!!” She turned her head just in time to release a somewhat powerful sneeze. “Bless you,” Ava laughs, wiping a tear off her cheek. “Thank you, baby. Sorry, bad timing,” Sara says, frustrated. “No, it’s okay. You can’t help it. Just like I can’t help where I come from. But it doesn’t matter because we have each other.” “That’s exactly right.” They laugh before resuming their positions in bed and pressing play on the movie. “I’m sorry if I’m the reason you get your first cold,” Sara says. “We’re making memories together, babe. I’ll be happy as long as I’m with you, even if I get a stuffy nose.” Ava taps Sara on the nose then kisses her forehead. “Remember that optimism if you do get it, then,” Sara replies with a smirk. Ava smiles back, pulling her girl closer to her as they watch the movie. *TBC* Have a great weekend everyone! Link to comment
MIN
9 hours ago, jem said: Hello and happy Thursday (or Friday)! The caretaking is absolutely beautiful and the writing and attention to detail is spot on. I especially love Avas softness and concern when Sara's stifling her sneezes around her. I'd definitely love to see more badly timed sneezes from Sara aswell some false starts and teasing, I feel like it would drive her insane and she'd turn into an overdramatic 5 year old at the annoyance if it all, with Ava being a complete sop with all the pet names and sweetness. From the mention of Ava never being sick before, I have a feeling this is probably where you're going to go with it, which I'd love to see, but for some reason I feel like Sara's suffering isn't quite over yet 🤭 Link to comment

jem
Hi, everyone! Another week in the books. Here I am with another chapter. I hope everyone enjoys the weekend. Happy reading xx CHAPTER 5 Ava rolls over in bed, hoping to cuddle closer to Sara. She pats around, looking for her girl. She doesn’t feel her. She opens her eyes and peers around the room. “Sara?” Ava sleepily mumbles. In the living room, Sara’s bundled under a blanket shivering. She does her best to muffle a cough so she doesn’t wake Ava. Suddenly, she finds herself taking a deep breath in. “Hhtkxshh! Hehh… *snf!* Htchxshiew!... *snff*” Sara rips a paper towel off the roll and scrubs at her nose. The itch is incessant. “H’gksht!... “Hit’cheiw!” She attempts to blow her nose into the paper towel, but she’s too stuffed up to clear her sinuses. The material feels horrible against her already sensitive nostrils. She grumbles and pulls the blanket tighter around herself. Again, the itch toys with her nose. “Hehh Heh- *sigh* … Hhtkxshh! Ughh, god.” “Aww, bless you, baby,” Ava says softly as she walks into the room. “Why are you out here?” “I didd’t wadt to wake you,” Sara replies simply, her voice laced with congestion and rasp. Ava pouts her lip at the sound of Sara’s voice. “You don’t sound well, love. I’m gonna make you some tea.” Ava brushes her hand through Sara’s hair and feels her forehead before heading to the kitchen. After a couple minutes, Ava returns to Sara, handing her a mug. “Peppermint tea with honey. Hopefully it’ll help with your congestion,” Ava says. “Thadk you,” Sara responds. She cups her hands around the mug and sips from it slowly. The tea instantly rushes through her body, warming her core and soothing her throat. She hums in pleasure. “Oh, that’s good. Thadks, babe.” “You’re welcome,” Ava says, sitting next to her girl. Sara rests her head on Ava’s shoulder. “I’m sorry you’re so sick, baby. I’ll head out first thing in the morning and get you some stuff to help.” “Okay,” Sara replies, shivering again. “Let’s get you back to bed so we can use the heated blanket. That’ll get you warmed up.” They stand up and Sara sways, her body reacting poorly to the quick movement. Ava instantly has her arms around her girlfriend, steadying her. Ava takes the tea out of Sara’s hand and places it on the table, then in one fell swoop, she scoops Sara up into her arms and heads to the bedroom. Again, the incessant itch flares up. Jesus, not now, Sara thinks. She hurries and lifts her hoodie over her face and ducks down towards her chest in a valiant effort to shield her girlfriend from her germs. “H’gksht!” The stifled sneeze irritates her throat, causing her to cough. “I really wish you wouldn’t stifle like that,” Ava says softly in a worried tone. “Last tibe, I prombise. Didn’t wandt to sndeeze on you.” “Okay, baby.” Ava says with a kiss to the poor girl's head. As Ava carries Sara through the doorway to the bedroom, Sara chuckles, then coughs. “Foreshadowing, babe?” Sara asks in her signature flirty and raspy voice. Ava smiles in return. “You know it.” She plants a kiss on Sara’s cheek. Ava deposits her girl in bed and turns on the heated blanket before going back and getting her tea. She tucks Sara in and gives her her tea and some tissues, a welcome surprise. “Thadks, Ava. Sorry for the fuss,” Sara says quietly. “I could do this for a million years and never consider it a fuss, baby.” Sara blushes and drinks her tea. Ava scoots under the covers and cuddles up to the small blonde. “Is this any better?” Ava asks. “A lot better,” Sara replies. “Good. You can finish your tea then we’ll cuddle til you fall asleep.” “Kay.” Sara sips her tea, savoring the taste with her eyes closed. The peppermint is working its magic. Sara can feel her sinuses clearing, causing her nose to run. She sniffles. “Heh.. uh heh..” Ava sees Sara’s breath hitching and gently takes the mug from her hands. “Hhtkxshh!” Sara just barely catches the sneeze in her tissues. “Bless you,” Ava says. “Tha- hehh… thadks,” Sara’s breath catches. “...hITChh’ew!” “Bless yo-” “H’hhtxishh!” “Bless you, baby!” “Ughh, thadk you,” Sara responds, punctuated by a cough. Ava returns the mug to Sara. Sara brings the mug to her lips to take a drink and the smell makes her breath hitch. “Hheh heh.. ahh.” She moves the mug away from her face and pinches her nose. “Is the tea making you sneezy?” Ava asks in a playful voice. Sara smiles, feeling a tad embarrassed. “Yeah, I thidk so. It’s helping a lot, though.” “Well, that’s good, baby. Let me go get something that might help.” Ava leaves the room and returns with a straw. She pops it into the mug and turns to her girl with a hopeful smile. “How about now?” Ava asks. Sara sips from the straw. Putting a little distance between her nose and the mug did help, actually. “That’s better,” Sara laughs. “I feel like a kid.” Ava laughs too. “You’re so cute.” She gives Sara a peck on the cheek. Ava then resumes her duty of cuddling her girlfriend. Sara sips at her tea, eventually finishing it. The pair relax into bed and within minutes, Sara’s asleep. After making sure her baby is comfortable and warm, Ava closes her eyes and drifts off to sleep as well. Link to comment
