Do women sneeze more than men?

I never really thought about this before but this weekend, I flew out of state for a wedding. I noticed that at the airport and on the plane, I saw and heard a lot more women sneezing than I did men. Then it got me thinking, in my life the majority of the sneeziest people I have known have been women. Is this a coincidence or has anyone else experienced this?

I doubt it. You probably just have a bias towards noticing and remembering women sneezing or about to sneeze etc. (i.e. you're succumbing to the availability heuristic).

I think there is a variation when it comes to online content though. I perceive that there's a lot more wavs from women than men on YouTube. That's partly because I seek female content. But it's partly because of the market forces of internet kinkdom / porn in general, rather than women sneezing more often.

This seems very right. I don't think we can draw many conclusions about the whole weird world based on our own tiny window of observation, and I also don't think we ever really know how biased we are in terms of what we notice through that window. I've had days where I feel like no one ever sneezes but me, but that's my day and my mood, not reality.

Gotcha, makes a lot of sense!

I totally feel the same way on this

Interesting isn’t it? As someone mentioned before, it probably isn’t the case and we have a bias towards seeing and remembering women sneezing but in actual day to day life it doesn’t seem that way lol.

I think another key factor here is that females tend to stifle more which doesn't rid the irratants out of there nasal passages as effective as complety let out sneeze. Which would make females sneeze more because of there tendacy to have multiple sneezes from stifles . So I still agree with the original post of females being more sneezy

I'm sure it's been studied and my gut guess is that women do sneeze more. But that's just from anecdotal data.

I REALLY WISH that was the case; but I don’t think there’s a significant disparity in the frequency or quantity of sneezing between sexes; and that is based on my personal experience. Men might sometimes try to hold back there sneezes more (and sometimes succeed), to maintain their composure, and to maintain the impression that they’re in control; but otherwise I don’t think there’s a significant discrepancy. 🫤

Never thought about this before, this could be a factor.

If it was studied, I’m sure there wasn’t a big discrepancy if women do sneeze more. But I feel the same way too regarding the gut feeling and data.

I’m with you on that, maybe because we wish women sneeze more is the reason we think they do. But if there is a disparity in frequency or quantity of sneezes, it may not be significant but just enough to notice females sneezing more. Again, this may not be the case, but the majority of the sneeziest people I have met have been women.

Yeah, for those of us, who are into female sneezes, this kind of statistical bias regarding, which sneezes we pay attention to, can really skew the statistics in favour of women sneezing more. I, for one, react to male sneezes, like a non-fetishist would react to any sneezes. Of course, like Femsnzspry mentioned, women stifling more can also lead to longer fits. Finally, congratulations on knowing so many sneezy women. I have to agree with you on that, the majority of the sneeziest people I know, are also women. :)

I have worked in alot of manufacturing and call-center environments over the years and I certainly notice sneezing trends.

It seems like over the course a month, that a higher percentage of men will sneeze on at least one occasion for some reason. Usually at the manufacturing and call-centers I have worked at over the years, it always seems like over a month nearly all the men will sneeze at least once, while there always seems to be a few women who just do not sneeze.

There seems to be a much, much higher percentage of women who sneeze between 3 to 5 times in a row even when it is not allergy season.

Men tend to sneeze either sneeze singles or have much longer sneezing fits, there aren't nearly as many men who are 3 to 5 sneezes in a row like many women are.

I think generally women will tend to go to a doctor if the hay fever is out of control, while men will just ignore the hay fever and ignore their cases of the sneezes!

I have noticed over the years though that a slightly higher percentage of men, really get very sneezy during hay fever season.

Some doctor on TV said that females suffer from hay fever more than males. I can't remember what the circumstances were or who said it.

I do believe there's a tendency to sneeze more often during pregnancy. So that's a statistical advantage for women... but perhaps it won't explain the specific case you are describing

I'm going to have to disagree with the deepest sadness of the people here. In my entire life, men have always sneezed more, while women simply didn't. I traveled to many places and everywhere I went there was always a man having a sneezing fit everywhere. I have known several women for years who have never sneezed, but as soon as I meet a man he always sneezes within a short time.I don't know if it's because women want to keep looking sharp, or I'm just VERY VERY unlucky. I really wish women sneezed more, but I never see them. This makes everything worse when in a female circle there is a man and he sneezes instead of the girls. This can be seen in the media too, you almost always find a male sneeze in anime and cartoons, but it is not as common to find females as male. I still stick with my idea that male sneezes are overwhelming as female sneezes. Or I'm just really unlucky

Yes that’s definitely true. Each time I was pregnant, I sneezed like crazy the first 12-15 weeks!
