Yes, as Otaku points out, many of these pictures disappear -- some sooner than others. That is one of the most frustrating things about the long time between updates of their search engine database: by the time you find some really great ones (judging from the thumbnails in the search results), they have been removed. I suspect that in many, if not most, cases this is because the subject was none too keen on having a picture of them in some phase of sneezing on the web for all the world to see (which is, of course, exactly what makes sites like webshots so wonderful!).

I have a question for count de tisza: What is the URL of the picture you listed that displays it on the original webshots page? The URL you posted displays only the picture itself. I'm interested in knowing in whose album it appears and what caption (if any) accompanies it. For example, the first picture stikfir cites is: http://community.webshots.com/photo/335703...335703975NCHPWu. This is the standard URL format for the page, whereas the URL you provide (image36.webshots.com/36/9/39/14/302293914nKzBbU_fs.jpg) goes directly to the image.

As for preserving this gold mine of pics, everyone is on his or her own to save the pictures that they want. I figure that since these pictures are posted on the web (at least at one time) in a format that can be seen and downloaded by anyone without restriction, they are fair game to be seen and downloaded while posted. Hence, I provide URLs here. However, these pics are still the property of their owners and once they have been removed (for whatever reasons), I believe that we should respect that and not redistribute those pictures. Besides, there are always plenty of new ones.

Also, I apologize to all those who prefer male pictures. It takes a lot of time to search for, download, and log the female pics that I find. I simply do not have the time to do the same for male pics. Having said that, however, most of the search strings that I include in my listings also turn up a lot of male pics. You can try variations on the strings that I provide to search for whatever pics you like. I try a lot of different variations myself, but I list only those that result in new female hits.

Too bad none of these show the "after effects".

Although the search engine still has not been updated, it appears that there are MANY more pics to be searched when it finally is updated: still 174,577,867 photos being searched, but 222,062,035 photos total! There have to be some new goodies in the additional almost 50 million pics.

Wonder of wonders! Webshots has updated their search database. As of 14 JUL 2005 at 0500 UTC there were 195,045,619 photos being searched out of 235,510,384 photos total. This is an increase in the search arena of about 20 millin photos since the last update. Searching for "sneeze" (which gets the same hits as "sneezing") turned up 5,515 pics, which is about 700 more than before. Here is what I've got after going through 276 pages of pics. I'll continue with other searc keywords and phrases later.

Thanks, wroplinski! It is actually a benefit to me as well to have lists of the pics of interest to me and what search terms (or expressions) I used to find them. It takes very little extra time to document this and it's a simple matter to paste the lists here for the benefit of all. Since these kinds of searches take a significant amount of time, I'm glad to be able to shortcut the (somewhat painful) process for the rest of us --- at least for those of us with similar interst in pics to my own (my apologies to the rest).

OK, here are my most recent finds. I have pretty much exhausted my search repertoire, so this may be it until the next update (whenever that is). I'll look over previous searches and see if any of the more obscure ones turn up anything new.

Man, I sure hope they get their act together and update much more frequently. Every week would be nice, or even every two weeks. The most recent update was on 14 JUL 2005. The one before that was on 27 MAY 2005. If my math is correct, that's 48 days!

BTW, I noticed that I cannot edit posts on previous pages. If possible, I would appreciate it if one of the Moderators could fix the width of my very long post on 14 JUL 2005 at 09:39 AM. For some reason, it appears narrower than usual and some of the buttons are along the right-hand side rather than at the bottom. Oddly, it looks OK here while writing a reply (if I scroll down). It also looks OK if I preview my new reply (i.e., this message) if I scroll down. Beats me how this happened, unless it has something to do with the length of the post. In that, case --- oops! I first noticed the most recent update on 22 JUL 2005 at 0042 UTC. At that time there were 198,736,682 photos being searched out of 240,438,044 photos total. As of 26 JUL 2005 - 1533 UTC, there were still 198,736,682 photos being searched, but the total had risen to 242,576,763 photos.

I have included the number of hits as a reference so that we can tell how many new photos (if any) are found by the identical search after the next update.

This is just too many to search. Many of the hits are on user names (i.e., names of the photo album owners), which rarely include actual sneezing pics (although it is possible), and can be searched separately as described below. To look at pictures with the search term in the caption, I went to http://community.webshots.com/ and searched for "sne*ez*" in the "Find a Member" search. This produced a long list of names, which I included in the following search string for photos, where these user names are EXCLUDED from the search results:

This actually fit in the search window! It produced 229 hits. Note that for "sne*ez*" there are 8,745 - 8,576 = 169 new photos. So this method reduces the search results to a more reasonable set of photos to check that is not much larger than the actual number of new photos. However, the only new photo of interest to me was:

Almost all of the new photos must be in the excluded albums. I thought that these albums could be checked by performing a search using the string "normal_terms AND user_name", e.g., "achoo AND sneeze182", but this does NOT work. The problem is that the Webshots search engine ignores numerals in a search term. As we have seen, it works when you use it to EXCLUDE photos, but not to FIND (i.e., INCLUDE) photos. The way around this is to use the Webshots "Advanced Search" feature. There you can specify the user name in the "by this photographer/member name:" field at the bottom. An alternative is to use a normal search string in quotes followed by "author:user_name", e.g., ""achoo" author:sneeze182".

Just wanted to let you know that Webshots has updated their search engine again! As of 27 July 2005 at 0518 UTC, there were 202,333,168 searchable photos out of a total of 243,100,591 photos. The prior update on 22 July 2005 indicated 198,736,682 searchable photos.

This time there was less than a week between updates (22 July to 27 July), so maybe they finally are getting on top of things vis-a-vis searching.

3. Included with each search string is a summary of the number of photos

in the form:

(new of interest / new / current total / previous total)

where

new = current total - previous total

new of interest = the number of the "new" photos that are of interest

Note that more URLs may be listed than "new of interest" because additional

photos were found (manually) in the same album that were not found by the

search itself.

4. To be safe, ALWAYS enclose the search string in quotes. Otherwise, spaces

will be interpreted as OR. However, in one case, "pepper AND nose" (without

quotes) returned 59 hits and ""pepper AND nose"" (with quotes) returned 10

hits. Try it both ways to be sure.

5. The searches marked "not worth it" are unlikely to yield many photos of

interest yet will take a long time to perform. Be my guest!

Just a quick note to say Webshots has updated slightly, eg sneeze has gone from 5911 to 6173, plus all the other keywords.

I do wish they would separate the new ones from old, there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how they are placed, which is most annoying.

Yes, I noticed that on Wednesday 11 AUG 2005 at 0600 UTC at which time I started working on a list. There are now 209,790,084 photos in their search database out of a total of 252,576,106. This is an increase of 7,456,916 over the previous 202,333,168 searchable photos. As soon as I have a substantial list of new female pics, I'll post it here. Stay tuned ...

Recent updates have been around 25 AUG 2005, 11 AUG 2005, 27 JUL 2005, and 22 JUL 2005. Hopefully, this means that we will be seeing updates about every two weeks. Time will tell. Here are my latest findings:

Notes:

1. PLEASE remember that some of these photos may have been removed

by their owners by the time you follow the links I've posted here. This list

takes me several days to compile, which increases the risk that a photo

may disappear before you can get to it. I'm sorry about this, but it cannot

be helped. If a link is included here, then that photo was available when I

checked it.

2. Some searches such as "sne*ez*" produce large (8,745) numbers of hits.

This is just too many to search. Many of the hits are on user names

(i.e., names of the photo album owners), which rarely include actual

sneezing pics (although it is possible), and can be searched separately

as described below. To eliminate pictures in albums whose owners' names

match the search term, go to http://community.webshots.com/ and search

for that term (e.g., "sne*ez*") in the Find a Member search. This will

produce a list (in this case a long list) of names. Include these names

in the search string for photos, where these user names are EXCLUDED

from the search results. The search string is of the form:

"normal_terms AND NOT (user_name_1 OR user_name_2 OR ... )"

Even VERY long search strings fit in the search window! This method

reduces the search results to a more reasonable set of photos to check.

This much smaller set may contain mostly old pictures and very few new

photos of interest.

The excluded albums CANNOT be checked by performing a search using a

string of the form "normal_terms AND user_name". This does NOT work

because the Webshots search engine ignores numerals in a search term.

As we have seen, it works when you use it to EXCLUDE photos, but not

to FIND (i.e., INCLUDE) photos. The way around this is to use the

Webshots "Advanced Search" feature. There you can specify the user

name in the "by this photographer/member name:" field at the bottom.

An alternative is to use a normal search string in quotes followed by

"author:user_name", e.g., ""achoo" author:sneeze182".

3. The following exclusive string can be used (contains NO end-of-lines):

4. Included with each search string is a summary of the number of photos

in the form:

where

new of interest = the number of URLs listed

new = current total - previous total

5. To be safe, ALWAYS enclose the search string in quotes. Otherwise, spaces

will be interpreted as OR. However, in one case, "pepper AND nose" (without

quotes) returned 59 hits and ""pepper AND nose"" (with quotes) returned 10

hits. Try it both ways to be sure.

6. The searches marked "not worth it" are unlikely to yield many photos of

interest yet will take a long time to perform. Be my guest!
