Yes, tarotgal and her sites are famous around here. Ok, maybe legendary is a better term!

I wanted to mention that I figured out how to order search results on www.flickr.com by date! This is a significant discovery as it cuts down by orders of magnitude the amount of time needed to check for new material.

The main search page is http://flickr.com/photos/search. If you use this, put your search term(s) into the box on the right, which will search titles, tags, and descriptions (the box on the left searches only tags). If you search for "sneeze", you will be directed to a page with search results in no particular order and which has the following URL (the "http://" has been removed to prevent the forum software from displaying it as a link with missing characters replaced by an ellipsis):

www.flickr.com/photos/search/text:sneeze/sort:relevance/

The trick is to replace "sort:relevance" with "sort:date" in this URL:

www.flickr.com/photos/search/text:sneeze/sort:date/

The resulting page will have the results ordered from newest to oldest posting date! Each page contains 10 pictures. You can go to a specific page, by appending "?page=n" to the URL above, where "n" is the page number. For example, to go to page 2 of these date-ordered results, use:

www.flickr.com/photos/search/text:sneeze/sort:date/?page=2

You don't even have to use Flickr's search page directly. To search for "sneeze", all you have to do is enter the following into the address window of your browser:

www.flickr.com/photos/search/text:sneeze/sort:date/

Unfortunately, I have not been able to figure out a similar trick for webshots.com, which is a much bigger problem. If anyone can offer any suggestions (please!), I'm sure we all would appreciate it.

Also, I see that Webshots hasn't updated in over a month. I hope they aren't reverting to their previous frustrating practice of extended period between updates. I thought we were past that.

Thanks, Pluto, you're always so helpful. Actually, in this case, once you've entered a search term in "Search titles, tags, and descriptions" and got some results, you don't have to mess around with the URL -- just click the "Most Recent" link about halfway down the page on the right, and the photos will re-sort themselves, newest first. There are also page number links at the bottom of the page, if one wants to jump ahead several pages.

I am loving Flickr these days, because there are new photos practically every day, and the photos can be sorted by date. It also seems to be a much more international site than Webshots (foreign words in the search box bring up more results). I agree that Webshots' non-updating is incredibly annoying.

A couple other comments about Flickr: for a comprehensive search, it's important to search by "title, tags, and descriptions" rather than just by "tags," because people who upload photos can somehow draw little boxes (if they want) around parts of their photo and attach a description about what's inside the box -- these description words are not captured in a tag search.

One other warning, there is some porn on Flickr, and it doesn't seem to be against the rules or reportable. I don't think "sneeze" would probably bring up anything pornographic (except to us ), but terms like "handkerchief" do.

Lately, the search function on photobucket.com has been acting strangely. For a while, you would get different results depending upon which search window you used (i.e., home page or on the results page). In addition, when you returned to the results page from viewing a particular picture, the results page would often be different. This apparently was the storm before the calm. Their search capability has been enhanced and also returns many more hits than before, as the update below testifies.

I don't know what anyone else's experience with these lists has been, but I have noticed that more often than not the URLs I post get you only as far as the album that contains the photo of interest. I apologize for that. Each URL in the list is exactly what was in the address field of my browser after I clicked on the thumbnails and when I viewed and saved the pictures. I realize that the direct URL for each picture is available below where it appears in the album. For example, the list below contains the link

This sort of thing is inevitable because it is just as easy to find links to photographs as it is to find the photos in the first place.

People who post material on the web need to realize that once something is placed on the Internet, the poster relinquishes all control over it. That is not to say that he or she does not retain copyright or other ownership rights. But actual control is forfeited. The only recourse when something posted is used in a way contrary to the desire(s) and/or right(s) of the poster is for the poster to track down the offender(s) and to initiate litigation against that individual or group of individuals. The law never prevents evildoers from doing evil. It merely deters law-abiding people from doing evil and provides some hope (no matter how small) of recourse/retribution against the rest.

Posters should be far more concerned that stalkers and similar predators have access to such photos and related information. For example, 10 million men ogling a photograph for whatever personal and private reasons and activities, be they ever so foul in the eyes of the photo's owner or subject, is of no consequence compared to what can come of just one stalker/predator that decides to take action to invade (via physical or verbal contact) the life of the photo's subject.

I can kind of understand the guy's reaction to it. I mean, yeah, if you're going to post stuff on the Internet, that means that anyone is able to see it and they can react to it in whatever way they're going to react to it. But the fact of the matter is, when he posted the picture, he probably looked at it as just posting a picture of his sister sneezing, which would be really goofy and silly, etc., and he thought that most people would probably look at that and laugh. Probably never crossed his mind that some people might find it sexually arousing. So obviously he's going to get understandably freaked out upon finding out that someone from a sneeze fetish forum linked to the picture and that people might be masturbating to the contents of that picture. I mean, I'm sure most people would probably feel the same way given the circumstances, if a ton of strangers were masturbating or getting sexual arousal from a seemingly innocent and/or goofy and funny picture of one's sister, daughter, etc. Some people might find that sort of thing very creepy indeed. Its not like someone without the fetish posting a goofy picture of someone sneezing is likely to stop and think: "Okay, if post this and put some teasing or silly comment on it, is it likely that someone who has a sneezing fetish—which I have never heard of before and have no reason to believe something like that would exist—find the picture sexually appealing and masturbate to it?" Not like it is the worst thing that could happen; I mean, yeah, you're right, at least no one is stalking her. But at the same time, some people might find it a little weird, nonetheless.

Plus hey, at least the guy's not trolling our forums, as far as I can tell, and that's definitely a good thing. :innocent:

Perhaps I should have prefaced my previous post with a comment that I can understand where the guy is coming from, as Bondi has aptly done. I did not mean to be callous. The web is not a safe place. Those who venture there should do so with caution, circumspection, and care. I am sure that many other photos are used in ways never envisioned by the posters. Think of all the pictures posted of truly beautiful men, women, and children. The difference here is that he discovered what one such use was and was repulsed by it. Perhaps he is less naive now than before.

As an aside, I should point out that there is a huge difference between responding sexually to the sight and/or sound of a sneeze and imagining oneself having sexual interaction with the sneezer. The former in no way necessitates the latter. This distinction is largely lost on folks.
