Guest
Becky and Rachel were sisters. For as long as anyone could remember they had doneeverything together. Born a year apart, they were best friends and shared everything. Itseemed whatever Becky did, Rachel wanted to follow her big sister. From soccer as kidsto cheerleaders in high school to choosing the same college the girls were never apart. This similarity even carried over to their health. Both got the usual childhood illnessesusually within a very short period of time. And as they reached their teens, their motherrealized that they weren't going to escape her curse of allergies. Becky was first at 16 toexhibit the signs. As Spring came she began to experience attacks of sneezing. Shethought it was a cold at first but as she found her symptoms worsened whenever she wasnear fresh cut grass or flowers she realized what she had. Rachel thought it was funny, shewas 15 and teased Becky constantly. Sometimes she would watch Becky as she tried tofight the sneeze. Becky would wiggle and wriggle her nose trying to relieve the ticklyfeeling. Meanwhile, Rachel would taunt her: “...gonna sneeze Becky, you’re gonnasneeze! Can’t fight it!..”Becky would finally give in and let the attack take charge.“Achoo! Achoo!! Aaaa-chooooo!! Aaaa-chhhhhhoooooooooooo!!!!” After 20 or 30consecutive sneezes Becky would stop. Still she felt the constant itch in her nose andbefore long the sneezes would return. As her first hay fever season went on Becky becamemore and more sensitive to the pollen. The sneezing became relentless despite the pills hermother had given her. Finally, as Summers heat came the hay fever subsided. Becky stillhad occasional sneeze attacks but her nose began to feel less ticklish than in May. Rachelfound all of this quite comical. Becky seemed so “out of control” unable to resist the urgeto sneeze. Since Becky didn’t experience any breathing problems the whole problem ofhay fever seemed funny. Even Becky managed an occasional giggle over the wholedilemma. She really didn’t feel bad, she just couldn’t stop sneezing. As the next 3 years passed, Becky graduated and headed to college at the local universityand Rachel followed. Rachel was now 18 and felt she had avoided the “Curse” that hersister had developed. The girls decided to get an apartment on Campus and resume theirclose ties. It was mid- May as Rachel moved in and Becky showed the characteristic signsof her Spring malady. Her eyes and nose were tinged red and she sniffled constantly.Rachel smiled in sympathy to her sister, she teased “Poor Becky, you want to sneeze don’tyou?”. Becky nodded yes. “Go on, sneeze, sneeze, sneeeze!!!” Rachel chanted until hersister wriggled her nose and let the hay fever take hold. “aaaa-choooo!, aaaacchoooo!!!,aaaachoooo!!!!!!!, achhhhhhhoooooooooooo!!!!!!!” The sneezes came in dozens andfinally as the attack subsided Becky felt some relief. That night Becky sat on the couch asRachel handed her tissues. Becky couldn’t go 15 minutes without a sneeze and in betweenthe ever present tickle in her nose never abated. She felt comforted having her sister therewith her. Rachel made jokes about it and tried to keep Becky from feeling too sorry forherself. Whenever she could see Becky showing the signs of an impending sneeze shewould “egg her on”. “Cmon Becky let it go! Don’t fight it! sneeze!!” Becky would smileand sneeze one after another after another. The Summer went by quickly and as the new school year came the sisters prepared fortheir first day of classes. It was a pretty September morning when Becky awaked to apeculiar sound. “Ahhh-ahhhh- aaaaaacchhhoooooo!!!! aaaachhhoooo!!!aaaaa-chooooooo!!! It was Rachel! She stood in the kitchen holding a kleenex to her nose.“I think I have a cold” she explained. “I woke up this morning and opened the windowand all of a sudden I started snee-snee-aachoooo!! sneezing! Becky studied her sister’sface as she sneezed. Rachel twitched her nose and rubbed it straight up and down. Rachel: What are you looking at?Becky: Rachel, Does your nose tickle?Rachel: Kinda, Yea I guess it does, No, you don’t think....”Becky: You feeling kinda itchy?Rachel: My eyes and wait a minute, No way Becky it’s not even Spring!Becky: Yea, that’s true. But you sure look like I feel when hay fever comes on.Rachel: Achoo!! No it’s probably just a cold. C’mon were going to be late for class. The girls get ready quickly with Rachel sneezing occasionally. As they make the shortwalk to campus they pass a nearby field. As they get near Rachel starts to twitch her noseagain. Becky: Are you OK?Rachel: (Sniffle) Fine just an itch. Ahh- aaaa... a.....ahhhhhh-chhhhhoooooooo!!!!!!!!Rachel begins to sneeze.Rachel: “achoo!! achoo!! achoo!!!......” Becky help me! I can’t stop achoo!!achoo!!!achoo!!achoo!!!!!Becky quickly escorts her sister to the health center. The nurse at the check-in countersmiles.Nurse: Looks like someone has hay fever.Rachel: (achoo!! achoo!! achoo!!) No it can’t be, (achoo!!!) it’s not Spring! (achoo!!)Nurse: No, it’s Ragweed season. You’re the 10th person we’ve seen this morning. Thepollen count is over 300 today and everyone who’s allergic to it is suffering.Becky: Hmmm, but I have hay fever! How come I’m not sneezing?Nurse: Well I guess you’re not allergic to it. Yet!!Becky: what do you mean?Nurse: Well, most people with hay fever eventually develop allergies to the nearbyallergens within a few years after exposure. Of course some people can be lucky and neverbecome sensitized. Here Hon, take these pills and you should get some relief. And here’s apamphlet on what you can do to minimize your exposure. If you don’t get any relief thencome back and see us.As the girls leave, one of the girls in the waiting room greets them. Her eyes look red andwatery and she sniffles. Girl: Hi, I’m Amber!Becky: I’m Becky and this is my sister Rachel.Amber: (to Rachel) you got hay fever too?Rachel: Yea we both do. You too?Amber: Yea. Actually there’s a group of us who do. We get together off campus. Kind ofa Sorority of hay fever sufferers. If you want to come by here’s the address. It’s totallyinformal we just find its easier to hang out with fellow sufferers than try to explain tothose who don;t have why we sneeze all the time. You guys are welcome to join us.(Achoo!) Sorry, Ive been fighting that one since we started talking. See Ya! (to be continued?) I'm not much of a writer.Hope you guys liked, should I continue? Link to comment

Then the nurse said that it was hay fever, and i guess thats what ya get for teasing your friend. Link to comment
