Does it hurt to hold your sneezes in?

I got it right, but I really wish that wasn't true. Since I don't sneeze in front of other people, I hold them in. But I really don't think I'm doing any harm because I stop them well before they actually start to force themselves out. But the stifling...maybe that's what does the damage.
