Question about Japanese game shows

Can anyone explain to me the huge connection between these asian tv shows and sneezing? Is the fetish like, accepted in their culture? There seems to be SO much content with asian sneezing...even in public with inducing and attention drawn to it. Does anyone have any insight into the culture and know why this is so? I mean, from the comments of youtubers in america saying how weird it is for people to show themselves sneezing....I would guess a show like that (UNFORTUNATELY) would not make it very far in the US.

I'm talking about things such as this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z-l5cbOJ3Q"

and others too :)

in the above, they seem to have the girls MAKE the sneeze buildup sexual....

any thoughts?

greatly appreciate your time! Thank you!

I have no idea what the connection is between asian tv shows and sneezing, but I did watch that video and im wondering what is going on? haha I wish I could understand what they were saying. Are they trying not to sneeze??

Yes, It would never happen on a UK programme; though judging by the tendency of digital channels; it will soon; but then would it be acceptable here to have two teams of nubile ladies competing in anything?

Is it that sneezing is less unacceptable InJapan, or More unacceptable in polite society?

Incidentally, my favourite is the "Idoling" Christmas show with "Kushami Bingo". From 2007 I beleieve. I managed to download it quite recently, but now I can't find it; it was on YouTube and Dailymotion, but I now can't find it....anyone.?

Maybe those morons from FOX should dedicate a show to televised sneezing contests from Japan and how disgusting they think it is. Boy that would sure cause an international incident.

I too would love to hear a translated version of those shows. They seem completely within the realm of acceptable behavior in their culture. No wonder so many dudes like to vacation in the Far East.

I agree, I'd love to understand what's going on in this gameshow- and not just the sneezing parts, but the concept in general. Why is the guy wearing some sort of protective vest?

Japanese gameshows seem so weird to me. I wonder if people in Japan watch Wheel of Fortune or Deal or No Deal and say "Oh my God! That's so weird!" :)

Its an old fashioned umpires protector in baseball. The whole show appears to be baseball oriented. They even have a 'strikes, balls and outs' counter in the corner.

Very odd. :D Very sexy. ;)

Basically, it's all a joke. Japan has an 'interesting' sense of humor, and people sneezing on TV is seen as downright hilarious (which by all rights, it is).

As for the show in the link posted, does anyone know what it is? I think it's called Onedari Mascot (おねだりマスカット). Teams of models compete against each other in ridiculous contests to try and impress the judges. As with many Japanese shows, it seems to be conducted in a manner similar to "Whose Line is it, Anyway?" (where everything's made up, and the points don't matter).

In the episode with the sneeze inducing, the contestants are supposed to do their impression of a "cute sneeze." LOLWHAT?!!

I have an unfounded speculation to add:

"etchi" or simiar spellings. Does that not mean "naughty" or that kind of thing in the sexual way? And is that not what a lot of Asian women's sneeze sounds like? (Not trying to generalise :S). Is that a possible factor?

Sort of...

"ecchi" is the Japanese way of saying "H" (the letter) which is the first letter in "Hentai" which means "pornographic/perverted/etc..." (it means a lot of things in that vein, all mixed in.) So YES, the more risque scenes in anime / manga / movies / etc... are ofthen reffered to as "ecchi scenes" or just "ecchi."

But whether of not a sneeze sounding that way has any significance...? Couldn't tell you. I'm not Japanese, just Otaku.

Very, sublimnally, possible suggestion though. I wonder...

Ah, now I understand. Forgive me, I'm English and ignorant of baseball things

That's OK. If it were Cricket-themed, your lot's current and former empire would be the only ones with a flippin' clue what was going on. :)
