countless
Only in 1546 Fracastero di Verona suggested that diseases may be caused by 'seminaria' (germs). And only in the late 1800's Koch proved this was right... Before that time people did not know that colds are spread by sneezing and coughing.'Cold' was an illness caused by cold or bad air. A drop in temperature. Basta. How did people sneeze in the past ?Would they have covered their sneezes and coughs if they did not know about the importance of hygiene ?I suppose they didn't... What a nice thing to fantasize about ! C Link to comment
Guest
An interesting topic Countless...It is well known that handkerchiefs or kerchiefs were in use so were they used for other things apart from covering for coughs or sneezes ... Even though as you state maybe they did not know about the issues with germs and their spreading.. but would they have used handkerchiefs to avoid just spraying their companions when they sneezed or coughed.
