Sneesee
Well...I love music, but have a very wide variety of what I like. However, I just went to the Warped Tour a few weeks ago, and was introduced to some really awesome bands I'd never listened to before. If you like more hardcore speed metal type stuff, then there were a couple of bands I liked.~A Day to Remember~The Devil Wears Prada~Winds of Plague~Asking AlexandriaNow, for a different flavor from the same concert, I also liked:~Blood on the Dancefloor~Black Veil Brides~Vonnegutt~HellogoodbyeSome other bands I've been liking lately are:~The Downtown Fiction~30 Seconds to Mars~Sublime~PepperSome classic bands I love are:~Metallica~Megadeth~Def Leppard~Motley Crue~Foo Fighters~Red Hot Chilli Peppers~Depeche Mode~The Cure~MarillionThat's all I could think of right now. I hope this gives you some ideas of stuff to look for in music. Link to comment
Guest
Try some Dream Theater and see where that takes you. Jukesy is a fun program for finding new stuff. Link to comment
VoOs
Great topic! *rubs palms excitedly*My favourite band is BUCK-TICK, a Japanese rock band formed in 1983. Their style incorporates various genres of music, including rock, alternative rock, gothic rock, industrial, electronica, dark wave, power pop and retro rock n' roll. They kick absolute ass live and their vocalist has the single sexiest voice on the planet. This is a fact and not my personal opinion. Uh. Anyway! Here are some examples (Warning: weird Japanese shit ahead):Miu21st Cherry BoyMuma (The Nightmare) [/pimping]Other bands I love are , , , and . Link to comment

count tiszula
It would be remiss of me not to mention tht recently a new version of Novak's "Eternal Longing" has appeared on YouTube; all scrunchiness fans will want to hear this....... Link to comment
Guest
Good Sweeney Todd recordings are a gem. And by good, I essentially mean anything on youtube that isn't Depp. As great as all the cast are, none of them are proper singers and all of them do it wrong. Except perhaps Bonham Carter, but the real cast is still better. Link to comment

black_mage
Since you want something obscure, might be pretty obscure to you if you're not finnish. It's a classic Link to comment

March Hare
Deine Lakaien! Always Deine Lakaien. And Patrick Wolf. And Modest Mouse. And Luka Bloom. Definitely Luka Bloom, he has one of the best voices in the world. Also Diorama if you like a more Gothic type kind of thing. Enjoy Link to comment

cuneas
I have wide-ranging tastes, so I'll categorize them:CLASSICAL:WagnerAnton BrucknerMonteverdiPucciniBeethoven (especially the "Fidelio" opera)JAZZ:Ella FiztgeraldFrank SinatraANY Gerschwin compositionBarbra Streisand, but only when she sings standards and showtunes. I'm not all that fond of her pop stuff.Barbara CookMichael FeinsteinBarry Manilow (yes, I consider him jazz)ROCK/POP:Jim SteinmanBilly JoelBruce SpringsteenMelissa EtheridgeQueenDavid BowieThe Grateful DeadThe Bee Gees' "Saturday Night Fever" songs (though oddly enough, not really most of their other stuff)Sugarland (probably my favorite recent group)Yo La Tengo (my favorite obscure indie band)Any of the music on "Glee"SOUL/R&B:Ray CharlesMichael JacksonPrinceEminem (I'm not usually much of a rap fan, but I've become quite fond of his work recently)BROADWAY:Anything Andrew Lloyd-WebberAnything SondheimThe musicals of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Once On This Island, Seussical, etc.)"Man of La Mancha" (my favorite music in the world, BTW)"Porgy and Bess""The Light in the Piazza""The Pajama Game" (the first music I ever heard...my Grandmother played it for me in my cradle)Elizabeth Swados' "Runaways"Cult Flops in general Link to comment
flower
Well, I don't think they are very obscure but I love stuff by: Two Door Cinema Club, The Fray, Mat Kearney, Modest Mouse, Young the Giant, Arcade Fire, The Kooks, Muse, Metric, Franz Ferdinand, Pearl Jam, OK Go, Spoon, LCD Soundsystem, Ingrid Michaelson, Radiohead, Adele, The Bravery, Phoenix, Lykke Li, Rogue Wave, The Black Keys. And of course, very well known Coldplay, One Republic and U2. Link to comment

Marceline
My favorite band of all time is Rammstein. They're a bit out-there. German industrial metal with some creepy lyrics translations. But they're great. I'm going to see them in May next year. I also love Tegan and Sara. Most of you have probably heard of them. Kind of indie-rock, twin sisters. Their lyrics are very deep and amazing.More stuff I like: Asking Alexandria, Deadmau5, Skrillex, My Chemical Romance, The Black Keys, Florence + The Machine, Avenged Sevenfold, Eisbrecher, t.A.T.u., Lena Katina, The White Stripes, Muse, La Roux, and Lady Gaga.Typical teenage girl who doesn't like rap. SomethingClever
hmmm... love a lot of those mentioned, what hasn't been said?State Radio, The Decemberists, Amanda Palmer, Dispatch, Ingrid Michaelson, Rubblebucket, Regina Spektor, Dessa, Cat Stevens, Phish, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Mika, Old Crow Medicine Show, Fleet Foxes, Blitzen Trapper, Pomplamoose, Tracy Chapman, Punch Brothers, Crooked Still. I think a lot of these are pretty obscure, especially the really bluegrassy ones... Also some might be pretty new-england centric, but I tried to pick ones with more national/ international reach... March Hare
Fuck yes Rammstein. Also the New Pornographers, they're so happy. Chris Smither is one of the best bluesfolk singers out there and you may like Kult, a Polish band. Noir Désir and Manau are also good (French rock and French/Breton hiphop). Link to comment

AbigailAnarcki
Saetia is my fave band. I love low key bands, they were around 2 years and mainly did shows, thats how theyre album was made. Some studio stuff. I love a lot of different post-hardcore, metal, horror-punk, psycobilly. Thats my stuff, Saetia is like Post-hardcore but not many can take it (or like it) Link to comment
