I need help with sending a letter

I have an internel pal in New Jersey and I'm about to send him an actual letter this time. I have never written a letter to someone abroad, so I wonder if you could help me with the address issue. What things should I write on the envelope? Also, is the zip code the same thing as the postal code?

Could anyone help me out by writing out an imaginary address or something, so I get the gist?
