Music Shuffle Poetry Game!

Found this on Tumblr and it's really fun!

Open your iTunes/iPod/other music player

Hit "Shuffle"

Type out the first lines/phrases of the first 10 songs it plays as your poem.

NO SKIPPING SONGS! Honesty is what makes this fun and interesting.

Here's mine. I'm gonna call it "My 9th Comrade"

--

There was time I could stop on a dime

I gotta a notion to say what doesn't feel right

Don't let me down.

Me and the Major could become close friends,

Number 9! Number 9! Number 9!

So I was lost, go count the cars.

I get no kick from champagne.

I've watched the eagle flying into the sunset

Time moves slow.

Comrades!

I'm going to do it a little differently because I haven't reinstalled iTunes and I'm too lazy to do that right now, so I'll listen to ten songs on iHeart Radio and report back with my poem. tonguesmiley.gif

ETA:

There was truth

It's alright

Life's too short to even care at all

'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Forty days and forty nights

When I was young I knew everything

Take me to your best friend's house

I'm gonna fight 'em all.

What's with these homies, dissing my girl?

I'm itchin' on a photograph

That took a strange turn.

Ooh, that sounds fun. I'll have a go:

In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.

You've got pudding, I've got a hound, you've got a chicken that told us around (? couldn't find the lyrics and this is what I heard. )

Maybe some day I'll go back again to Ireland

Magic is the door through which mortal men may sometimes step to find the gates of the otherworld

Have you ever, ever felt like this

Following the leader, the leader, the leader

Kermit the frog here, who let the frogs out?

I was alone, I took a ride, I didn't know what I would find there..

There was a time when I was sure that you and I were truly one

Sometimes I feel so out of time and place, trapped in a maze.

... I kept having to go back because I forgot I had to pay attention.

You've got pudding, I've got a hound, you've got a chicken that told us around

Best line ever!!!!

This does look super fun!! :D

I wish I could do better by you cos that's what you deserve

25 years I'm alive here still

Must it take a life for hateful eyes to glisten once again

I thought it would be easy, but it ain't for me

So she said "What's the problem, baby?" What's the problem, I don't know, well, maybe I'm in love

Numb and broken, here I stand alone

Here we are, and I can't think from all the pills, hey, start the car and take me home.

I want a girl with lips like morphine, knock me out every time they touch me.

If you're alone and you need a friend, someone to make you forget your problems

I'd never tell you a lie, I'd never let you down, I'd never leave, I'd always be around.

And, yes, there is a combination of Killswitch Engage, Vengaboys and Meatloaf on there.

:bag:

Well, I laid down last night and I turned my TV on

On the wrong side of midnight

I light my love and watched it burn

Tell you a little story and it won't take long

I'm so lonely

Winter's weighing on your shoulders

City girls are all the same

The first time I looked in your eyes I knew

If I gave you the truth, would it keep you alive?

Same old place

This makes no sense. lol

I love doing stuff like this! Let's see if I can make it read like a real poem...

Macavity!

Those fingers in my hair...

Tell me do you think it'd be all right?

I was feeling low down and blue.

There's a bright golden haze on the meadow,

Here I go again, rushing headlong.

Well,

Bouger Leger, Leger. (Tr. Move lightly, lightly)

Listen up, Mrs. Brady, I have got a hunch,

You can torture me.

Well, that got...dark.

(all this and I had to cut out an instrumental piece from Master and Commander to boot.)

Right, here goes:

Quand décembre revient (When December dreams - I think blushing.gif My French translation isn't that good)

Hey you, hey you

Hey little apple blossom

Blue guitar

I moved in that very day

Calling Elvis

Hear me God I'm on the level

Tha sistas are in so check tha front line

On the turning away

You have the bravest heart I've ever known

So not much sense there, but an impressive range of artists I think. Roch Voisine to Space Brothers via Dream Theater, White Stripes, Dire Straits and Rage Against The Machine amongst others.

I think I might call mine "Out of the Game or Ave Maria" (since "Ave Maria" was the 11th song to play happy.png)

You took the sun from the hole in the sky

I was living with these fingers on my eyes

I heard this old story before

Am I alone in your heart?

Easy said and easy done is how we like this

You won’t believe what I tell you

Far away is the moon

I’m not over you (and I know that I should be)

So come on down and let it out

I’m out of the game

It was great fun to try this and I like what everyone got so far. It's amazing how the brain can easily come up with logic connections between these random lines. For example in Dusty's poem, it struck me how the war and army theme was conjured up several times: "There was time" - meaning that it is a story from the past, for example a combat veteran telling his story, then obviously the "Major" and the number 9 (maybe his company), the feeling of getting lost, the "eagle" and of course the "comrade" reminding of military signs and divisions... Sorry for this lenghty poem analysis, but I'm quite impressed with how well this is falling into place.

'Untitled 2013'

I know you're gonna blame me

The changing world, numbers all around

Stop as you drop this bomb

The times are tough now

[something] waves of desperation fall before the rain

I forget where I'm going

I press my face against the glass

For those of you who have the benefit of the Internet, you may be familiar with this already

Secret therapy

Got your mother in a whirl

~

I only skipped the ones whose lyrics I couldn't make out. :P

N.B. There are too many songs in the world with unnecessarily long intros.

(Oh, and HoL: 'revient' means 'returns' here.)

Okay, so I decided I'll do this. I didn't know what to do about instrumental music (of which I have a lot), so I just didn't count them, and moved on

There is a man with a face and a name I don't remember

Beauty is a harlot

It's just a matter of time before you notice the way I tip my hat

A moment of silence please, for those who never get the chance

Every time I try so hard, I get nothing

It doesn't really matter if you lead or follow

Like tattered sails

The man in black he told me, the latest Moscow news

Wake up, start running for your life

In a town in the woods at the top of a hill

I suppose this is a poem about espionage, then. Or the Cold War. Or some combination of the two.

I call this

Bipolarity

The lights go out and I can't be saved

Loving him is like driving a new Mazeratti down a dead end street

Hold on to me as we go

Raindrops, after the end of the time there comes more

Come and open up your folding chair next to me

You know the bed feels warmer sleeping here alone

Come on skinny love what happened here?

Alright okay, alright alright okay

Your lipstick stains on the front lobe of my left side brains

You shout it out, but I can't hear a word you say

I call it: Story of a Girl

Hopefully

Another turning point a fork stuck in the road

Sing us a song of the century

Do you know what's worth fighting for

Hear the sound of the falling rain

You were so clever

Here's a story of a girl

Words get trapped in my mind

He saw the operation

Heading for a cheap escape

huh, it kind of makes sense, little parts of it at least....

Most of it is Green Day, since 90% of my music is Green Day.. and then two lines of random singer song writers, and two Broadway showtunes...

Initially, I was looking through this section to find out wether we already have a thread to post our favourite poems (there is one to post own poetry, but I was looking for poetry recommendations), but then I came across this thread and thought it might be fun to give this another try?

So I hit my music player and this is what I got:

Winter's cityside

Dearest constellation, heaven surrounding you

It's close to midnight

I like to dance all night

You know that it would be untrue

An address to the golden door

It's funny how I found myself in love with you

In a time where the sun descends alone

Prettiest thing I ever did see

Half moon, crossed eyes, fear is disguised

This was really fun, but it makes me seem like a violent, horny person 😂 I used the thumbprint station on Pandora.

Hot nights coming

And this glass, it breaks

Ripping the heads off all my Barbie dolls

Sunny

(Pretty violin music)

Remix, baby, yeah

Most of them gon’ talk, I know, I know

You never know how things

A part of me wants a part of you baby

She said, I don’t want a model

Oooh! How did I miss this thread for so long?? It wasn't until now I realised just how many instrumental songs I have, wtf…

Okay, here's my... very depressing poem.

Picture perfect memories scattered all around the floor

So leave if you're leaving

Another night slowly closes in

The flowers are faded now

The whole world is watching us now

Don't think I can't feel that there's something wrong

It's raining now, and it's over

There's a space I can't reach across

I've looked everywhere I can just to find a clue

And I would do anything for love.
