question about project zomboid game...

so I've been looking at a new game for my laptop called project zomboid. I'm interested but have never played it. I'm wondering if there are any player of it on here and what your experiences are and thoughts. is it worth the $24 to buy and play it? is it as fun as it looks on youtube? or is it a waste of time and money?
