Hitchcock's original climax to North by Northweat.

In an interview I caught on telly today, HITCHCOCK revealed that his first idea  for the end of North by Northwest was that Cary Grant  should hide from the baddie inside Lincoln's nostril on Mount Rushmore, where of course he would have an inevitable sneezing while hiding scene to keep the suspense going.  But someone very important in the Government told him that actors were forbidden to climb on the presidents' faces because Mt Rushmore is "a monument to democracy".

Anyway, this idea seems oddly familiar; I wonder why.....
