LiveToBeMe Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 A/N: Okay guys! Very pleased to finally be able to post my Yurio story, I've been so distracted over winter break, I feel bad for taking this long. I hope you all enjoy! I think there will be more, but for now, here's part 1! --- The pressure of winning any competition is an extreme burden to bare for anybody. But when it's a worldwide competition like the Grand Prix Final, the pressure is doubled. At only fifteen years old, Yuri Plisetsky of Russia had won himself a ticket to the GPF, after placing second at the Rostelecom Cup. Everyone was proud of him and he received lots of praise, but that was never enough for Yuri. Nothing would be enough until he won the GPF. He was currently back in Russia training with Yakov, but it wasn't going very smooth. "Yuri! One more time, get up! You know better than this!" His coach barked at him strictly. Yuri was having trouble landing the triple axel in Agape, but not because of his technique. The root of the problem was the migraine he was suffering through presently, leaving his focus blurred. Darn it! His stomach hurt and his head felt like it was slammed into a brick wall over and over. He wanted this annoyance to go away right now, and it better before it got was was coming to it. Yuri got his momentum up and took off, spiraling through the air only to collide roughly with the ice once more. Everything was blurry and voices sounded as though they were under water. Yuri gingerly begun to get off the ice, only to weakly fall back down against it. He was too tired and everything hurt too much. He wasn't used to being this weak. Yakov and Lilia hastily made their way over to Yuri's collapsed form, calling out his name multiple times without response. "Are you injured?" Lilia asked, concerned. "I'm fine! Leave me alone, I'm just a little tired. I can do it again. " Yuri grumbled, meekly swatting away his coaches' worried arms. Lilia stared her student down long and hard, making sure he was reminded of his position as a student. "Yuri Plisetsky, do not talk that way to your superiors. You look tired, let me help you up." She was strict, but she cared evidentially. Cradling the back of his head and pushing his shoulders off the ice, Lilia noticed he was far too warm than he should have been from lying on the ice so long. She quickly felt his forehead, before the young skater could protest, and clucked her tongue disapprovingly. "He's burning up Yakov, I strongly suggest bed rest until the fever has broken for 24 hours." Lilia sternly mentioned, finding his cheek and neck the same burning temperature. Yuri pushed against their arms once more, wobbling his way back onto his skates. "I'm not going to fall behind that Japanese pig! I can't afford to lose that much time on rest-" Yuri sentence was cut off by an intense coughing fit that quickly brought him to his knees. He gasped and grabbed his head painfully. Crap. Everything was too loud. At least he felt Lilia's somewhat comforting hand rubbing his back through the end of the fit. "Yuri! That's enough. I'm calling your grandfather, you need to go home. If you keep going the way you are, you'll never get anywhere. Off the ice. Now." Yakov strictly stated, pointing towards the rink's exit. Yuri simply growled and weakly stood, making his way to the bench slowly, but surely. --- While unlacing his skates, Yuri felt a shiver go down his spine and soon he was shaking too much to hold the laces steady. Yuri's gaze wandered off as a slim finger hovered right below his nose. Just then his breath hitched dramatically, before he cupped his hands over his mouth and nose. "Yiisschh! USHH!" "Ugh, too darn cold in here." Yuri complained, shakily putting his skates away. The 'Russia' team jacket did little to ease the feverish shivers induced by the ice rink. The fifteen year old stumbled into his purple, leopard print sneakers. Man, his head hurt. Yuri couldn't wait to go back to ice skating, even though he hadn't even left the rink. He almost felt guilty for resting while knowing Yuuri was training his butt off back in Japan. Even so, it might be nice to rest for once. To lay back and close his eyes and allow the fever to take over as he fell asleep – "Yuri! Your grandfather is outside!" Yakov announced, interrupting his thoughts, causing his eyes to snap open. Yuri hadn't even noticed he was falling asleep on the bench. His head just hurt too much. Oh, his nose was running now too. Whatever. Yakov helped Yuri with his skate bag and escorted the young boy out to his grandfather's old, green car. Mostly, he just wanted to make sure Yuri didn't trip over his own feet while he was at it. The boy was swaying more with every step he took. Yuri fumbled with his things as he climbed into the family car, barely mumbling a greeting to his grandpa. "Are you well Yura? Yakov said you were ill." The old man smiled gently down at his grandson with concern. He rarely saw the boy this weak or willing to rest. "Just a headache. I'm fine Grandpa. Yakov made me go home anyway though." Yuri croaked out, his voice barely there. "Doesn't sound like a simple headache, Yura. Let's get you home and to bed. Here, wipe your nose." His grandfather stated softly, passing him a clump of tissues as the engine started. He also noted that the headache must have been bad if Yuri was admitting it was there at all. "Eshhooo! ISH! Snf, snuff." He caught a rapid double into the Kleenex, wetly sniffling after. "We're in traffic, rest your eyes Yura. We'll be home when you wake up." Yuri barely registered his grandfather's calm voice before his heavy eyelids fell shut and he softly snored. --- A/N: Well, there you go guys! Hope you liked where this story is going so far. LiveToBeMe Posted January 2, 2017 Author Posted January 2, 2017 A/N: Happy New Year guys! Hope you're all having a great day so far. Here's part 2! --- Yuri Plisetsky was usually a heavy sleeper, but today his head pained him to the point of no return. The world was much too loud for a complete nap in the car. Still, he lacked the energy to pry his eyes open and investigate what was occurring around him. Nikolai, Yuri's grandpa, had cared for his grandson practically his whole life. Seeing the tough fifteen year old get so sick reminded him of when he was little and so very innocent. He used to cry a lot and sleep with his grandpa until he felt better. But those moments were so few and short now that Yuri was older, he simply had to accept that his little boy was growing up. Nonetheless, they pulled up to his apartment and he got the opportunity to watch the young boy be innocent once more. Turning his head, he saw Yuri sleeping exhaustedly, and the elderly man knew that this was one of the precious days he still had with his real grandson before the world stole him back. Yuri found himself in the arms of his grandfather when the cold air of Russia woke him up, finally. "Grandpa..." The younger one trailed off tiredly in a raspy voice. "It's cold." Yuri found himself snuggling closer in the man's arms subconsciously. "Awake now, Yura? You're running a temperature. Let's get you inside." Nikolai softly stated as Yuri's eyes closed once more. --- When the Russian boy woke up, he was on the couch, wrapped up in blankets, holding a thermometer with his lips. He also noted that a cold compress was resting on his boiling forehead. Yuri groggily mumbled a few Russian words before tiredly gazing around the room. His grandpa was always more of a lower class fellow, but Yuri still found more comfort in his presence than any other human. "Eeeh – hechxhh!" The sneeze surprised Yuri, causing him to shoot forward and lose the wet rag that was previously dwelling on his brow. His grandfather was by his side in seconds, handing him a tissue box and taking the thermometer out of Yuri's mouth. Yuri physically winced when he saw his grandpa glare at the device as if it had offended him. That couldn't be a good sign. "You're going to be in bed all day, Yura, so get comfortable. Do you need anything?" The elderly man asked with concern, brushing his gentle hands through Yuri's long, blonde locks slowly. "Do we have any pain killers? This headache needs to die." Yuri mumbled into a pillow, clearly dozing under his grandfather's magic touch. His voice sounded much more congested than before, also making it difficult to breathe properly through his nose. Nikolai chuckled softly. "I've got some in the back, but you shouldn't take 'em on an empty stomach. I could make you some fresh piroshki or bring in some crackers. Your stomach doesn't feel nauseous, does it?" Yuri only hummed as he contemplated telling the truth or acting tough. He signed, might as well get things taken care of while he was too weak to improve at the rink. "Just crackers, grandpa. Don't think I can keep anything else down. I swear someone's beating my head from the inside." The young boy reached up to support his head with slim fingers, as if his words weren't enough proof that the migraine was severe. "Ah, take it easy. I'll be right back with the medicine. You rest, okay? Nothing good comes out of pushing your body when it needs to recover." His grandfather placed the wash cloth back on Yuri's forehead, making sure it was still cool enough to provide relief. "I'll get some ice too, might be able to help that nasty headache." Yuri nodded miserably, falling dead asleep in seconds. The silence was nice and he could smell his home's scent all around him. The couch, the blanket, pillows, everything. It was nice to feel comfortable again. Perhaps all wasn't lost by taking a day off after all. Nikolai didn't want to wake his poorly grandson, but Yuri really needed the medicine for his own good. When a gentle shake wasn't enough, he decided to scoop the boy up into his arms, before repositioning both of them. Yuri now sat on his grandpa's lap, with his head resting against his chest. As a hand went through Yuri's hair again, his eyes fluttered open, slowly readjusting to the proximity of his caretaker's face. "Time for medicine, eat the crackers first. Take it as slow as you need." The old man smiled down on him, eyes full of care and love. The fifteen year old weakly smiled, before slowly indulging on his cracker feast. He really felt terrible and being perfectly honest, he had no idea where the virus even came from. He paused, allowing his illness to take full control of his thoughts. "Grandpa," Yuri began through a cracked voice. "I'm not feeling well." His eyes were so unfocused and his cheeks burned with a fever higher than before. "I know, Yura, I know. You don't look it either. Can you take these pills for me?" His grandfather's voice was teaming up with the fever to lull him back to sleep. He could only nod in acknowledgement. Yuri's voice was practically gone and the migraine was eating him alive. After chasing a few pain killers down with water, he fell back against the pillows weakly. "Yiisschh!!" Yuri caught the small explosion tiredly with his index finger. He didn't even have the energy to sniffle the mess away. Tissues were pressed against his nose, causing his eyes to open again. He slowly registered his grandpa's voice above, commanding him to "blow." Even though it was pathetic, Yuri found himself getting cleaned up by his grandfather, before passing out cold. The old man's eyes crinkled with a small smile. "That's right Yura, let the medicine work and feel better." And with that, he closed the curtains in the living room to allow his grandson the best napping environment possible. --- A/N: So sorry this part took a little while to get out! I really wanted to get Yuri and his grandfather's characters correct, while also providing a new side of them in this part. My baby needs to be held and loved Hope everyone liked it! If you want a part 3 maybe give me some ideas too, I'm not sure where to go with this currently
cherrishish Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Hmm... maybe some feverish delirium? Then that later stage when he is feeling a bit better but cranky as hell? Maybe posting something on social media and Victor's reply riling him up or something... Great job by the way! I love that little punk too

SneezeFanGirl Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Very nice fic I like this story and I will be wait next part. Just one remark. holding a thermometer with his lips In Russia no one put thermometer in the mouth. Here people hold thermometer under their's arm. Like this And the old man will be use only mercury-in-glass thermometer. I know, most European countries don't use it already, but here electronic thermometer use only young people and still everybody have old thermometeres at home.

I think, in a sick-fiction, reality is not as important as personal prefereces are. For me, taking the temperature in the armpit would be a no-go and down-turner. It would take (almost) every excitement of the fever-situation away and surely that of the fever-taking. Also - the whole show plays in its own universe. As far as I know, homosexuality is not "much loved" in Russia. In the show it's a given - there is no discrimination concerning sexual preferences in any place - and that's GREAT! Maybe, the way of taking the temperature is different in this universe, too? @LiveToBeMe - sorry for this slight off-topic comment, couldn't hold back after reading the quote. Your story is nice although I prefer older persons getting sick (25+) ~hedgie

I'll definitely keep this in mind for future stories, however I'm a sucker for thermometers being placed in the mouth. I think it just makes the sick person even more adorable and I don't know, it just gives me the right feelings lol. I don't think sick-fics always have to be 100% accurate, I was just having a little fun with this character. Also, I'm from the U.S., so I'm used to getting my temperature taken in my mouth. Maybe it was unannounced to Yuri that Vic and Yuuri still haven't left Russia after the Rostelecom Cup due to very delayed flights, so they come take care of their dear son friend.
