Handkerchiefs Silk Handkerchief Obs (F)

I was on the train last week when I saw a lady (late 40s, at a guess) produce what looked like a silk handkerchief, purple/lavender in colour, and blow her nose. Quite interestingly, she was wearing a blouse of a similar colour, so it really was quite eye-catching.

The handkerchief was quite large and she seemed to unfurl it from it being folded in her handbag. The thing that struck me was how unabashed she was. She didn't blow her nose that loudly, but neither was she quiet. Just seemed entirely natural.

For someone that has no "attachment" to handkerchiefs like us, I suppose it's a natural event too blow your nose. We probably would have been cautious cause of the fetish, for me I would NEVER use a silk hanky in public, private only ?

She looked quite elegant and posh. Probably had silk handkerchiefs in the family for generations.
