Heathcliff
Post your favourite lyrics. (Have I done this before?) ELVIS COSTELLO- JACKSONS, MONK AND ROWE SisterS four and brothers three, Hanging off the family tree, Practicing for getting old, Do you want your fortune told? They're looking for you high and low. Now there's nowhere for you to go. So you'll just have to come out and face the music, Jackson's, Monk and Rowe. Long ago when we were kids and we cut your hair to bits As we carried off like spoils the heads we'd smash right off your dolls But the wind is changing you know... Are you sure of your friends and your foe? Have you got what it takes to carry it off? Jackson's, Monk and Rowe. As the sun beats down and life begins to complicate Will we both incinerate If we touch that brass name-plate? Messrs. all, noble sirs Highly paid solicitors Find enclosed my signed divorce Sad proceedings you endorse. The burden of pity will show In the people we used to know Have you got enough strength to carry it off? Jackson's, Monk and Rowe. Link to comment

So sentimental. Link to comment
March Hare
Almost everything by Stephen Sondheim, but most especially this. From Into The Woods, Little Red's post-wolf song: "And take extra care with strangers Even flowers have their dangers And though scary is exciting, Nice is different than good!" Link to comment

gingerdean
Great topic- so hard to choose, though! There are soooo many. It just depends what mood I'm in Name-Goo Goo Dolls And even though the moment passed me by I still can't turn away 'Cause all the dreams you never thought you'd lose Get tossed along the way And letters that you never meant to send Get lost or thrown away And now we're grown up orphans That never knew their names We don't belong to no one That's a shame If you could hide beside me Maybe for a while And I won't tell no one your name And I won't tell 'em your name And scars are souvenirs you never lose The past is never far Did you lose yourself somewhere out there Did you get to be a star And don't it make you sad to know that life Is more than who we are We grew up way too fast Now there's nothing to believe And reruns all become our history A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio And I won't tell no one your name And I won't tell 'em your name I think about you all the time But I don't need the same It's lonely where you are, come back down And I won't tell 'em your name Here's the video (although just about everybody knows this one ) And then I'll go with a happier one: Drift Away- Dobie Gray/Uncle Cracker Day after day I'm more confused Yet I look for the light through the pouring rain You know that's a game that I hate to lose And I'm feeling the strain Ain't it a shame Give me the beat boys, and free my soul I want to get lost in your rock and roll And drift away Beginning to think that I'm wasting time I don't understand the things I do The world outside looks so unkind And I'm counting on you You can carry me through And when my mind is free, you know a melody can move me And when I'm feeling blue, the guitar's coming through to soothe me Thanks for the joy that you've given me I want you to know that I believe in your song Rhythm and rhyme and harmony You help me along Oh, you're makin' me strong I hope more people post here, I like this topic Link to comment
Selene
This part in "Our Velocity" by Maximo Park: Love is a lie, which means I've been lied to Love is a lie, which means I've been lying too Seems like any old statement at first, but if you really think about it, it sums up so much truth and wisdom about human life and relationships in just two lines. And even though it has been around for ten years already, I still think it's a great song Edited to include the lyrics for the entire song, in case you are interested: I'm not a man, I'm a machine Chisel me down until I am clean I buy books I never read And then I'll tell you some more about me Beneath the concrete there's a sound A muffled cry below the ground There is a poison in the air A mix of chemicals and fear manners are just hunches I'm not sure what they mean You're asking for commitment When I'm somewhere inbetween Never never try to gauge temperature When you tend to travel at such speed It's our velocity Is it cold where you are this time of the year? You didn't leave a scar A stream of numbers hit a screen And you're expected to know what they mean Throughout the conflict, I was serene I can't outrun the sadness I've seen Are you willing to resist The people you've never met? The devil's wheel revolves But it needs to be reset Never never try to gauge temperature When you tend to travel at such speed It's our velocity Please tell me is it cold where you are this time of the year? You didn't leave a scar I've got no-one to call in the middle of the night anymore I'm just alone with these thoughts I've got no-one to call in the middle of the night anymore I'm just alone with my thoughts I watched a film to change my feelings Strong enough to bear a burden If everyone became this sensitive I wouldn't have to be so sensitive If everyone became so sensitive Perhaps I wouldn't be so sensitive Love is a lie, which means I've been lied to Love is a lie, which means I've been lying too Love is a lie, which means I've been lied to Love is a lie I've got no-one to call in the middle of the night anymore I'm just alone with these thoughts I've got no-one to call in the middle of the night anymore I'm just alone with my thoughts Never never try to guage temperature When you tend to travel at such speed It's our velocity Link to comment
MeForever
The one song that pops into my head immidiatly is Wrong by Cimorelli. I highly recomend this song, actually the whole album, it's so good. This song is my whole life in a song. I wait before I call you I don't text back right away I try to look like I have got a life I make sure I look perfect I make sure that you see I'm just trying to be something you like I don't always want to smile I don't always want to pout I'd love someone to come figure me out But I sit here by the sidelines And they always turn me down So I change myself and go another round [Chorus] I'm just trying to be something that makes you happy I'm just trying to be something you want I just want to feel your eyes looking at me I'm just tired of always being wrong Ooohh (x2) [Verse 2] I rearrange my schedule I make sure that I'm free If I don't try, we'll never hang out I'm sure there are people Who would like to catch me But I'm too busy chasing to turn around I know I can't be perfect But one day I'll be close And thats when someone will love me the most So I'll just keep on trying I'll do the best I can I can't compete just being who I am [Chorus] I'm just trying to be something that makes you happy I'm just trying to be something you want I just want to feel your eyes looking at me I'm just tired of always being wrong Ooohh (x2) [Bridge] I try so hard I change so much I put on a mask I hide all of my feelings so well But everytime they fall for it, it's all just a lie 'Cause I know that I'm not being myself [Chorus] I'm just trying to be something that makes you happy I'm just trying to be something you want I just want to feel your eyes looking at me I'm just tired of always being wrong Ooohh (x6) Link to comment
