File Sharing E-mail Lists

Recently various threads have filled up with endless users adding their e-mail address to try and get a file off someone. Various other users (including some of the ones who added their addresses themselves, which was odd) have mentioned that this is not a very good way to use our forum, and can cause irritation.

One solution I have already instigated is the "Share and Share Alike" sub-forum, and this is the second:

An e-mail list, run by the forum staff, whereby someone willing to share a file either because it was rejected by the forum software, or they simply don't want to share it through this medium, can e-mail it to a specific address:

files@snee... (that's the domain of this forum, truncated to avoid spambots)

and the staff will forward it on to the subscribers who have specified that they would like to receive that type of file, after checking it for viruses, trojans, spyware etc of course.

So how do you sign up? Simply e-mail files@snee... from the e-mail address you registered here with. Include in the subject line of the e-mail whether you would like to receive:

Male

Female

Neutral (e.g. cartoon animals) or

All files from the list, and your forum username

Example:

To: files@snee...

From: hypnos@snee...

Subject: Register Hypnos FEMALE

Body: Thank you very much for all your amazing work (or other similarly unrestrained praise for the marvellous work the forum staff do)

The e-mail address will be cross-referenced against the forum database and if you match you will be added to the appropriate list.

Please note that if a single e-mail subsequently bounces, you will be removed from the list from that point on. There will be no notification of this. It is your responsibility to ensure that your e-mail address is capable of receiving the files sent to it. Some exceptions may be made at my discretion in the event of a very large file being sent around that is likely to breach many e-mail size limits.

Just so everyone knows, the first few files have already been sent around the file distribution list. If you haven't signed up and are eligible through your status here, now may be a good time to do so!
