Rick
I recently came across the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), a method used in scientific studies, and it gave me this idea for a completely un-scientific study to see how effective our nose-blowing is! First, rate how your nose is feeling right at this moment, based on the following scales: Stuffiness (S): (1=completely clear, 10=blocked solid) Runniness (R): (1=totally dry inside, 10=streaming) Itchiness (I): (1=no tickles at all, 10=urgent need to sneeze) Overall comfort (C): (1=totally comfortable, 10=unbearable) Total: add up to give a score between 4 and 40 Now, regardless of your score, give your nose the best blow you can using your normal technique, adding any notes about your method. Score your nose again as before. Take it away from your first score, and that will leave you with a measure (positive or negative) of how much difference that blow made on the scale +/-36 My results just now: Before S=4, R=3, I=6, C=5, total 18 I blew my nose two-handed into my handkerchief, honking very loudly out of each nostril in turn, concentrating more on the stuffier side, before blowing both nostrils together like a long foghorn then more gently and rubbing it firmly in the fabric. After S=1, R=1, I=1, C=1, total 4 Blow effectiveness: +14 Obviously depends on how your nose feels before you start (I'd like to think I can blow a +36 if I need to!), but it will be fun to see your scores! Mochi
Before: S=5, R=2, I=3, C=5 After: S=0, R=0, I=1, C=0.7? Link to comment
cjblo
😂🤣😂 This will prove to be groundbreaking research. On a VAS from 1 to 10 I give it douze points... Link to comment
