Stuck sneezes in quiet space

This is my first “real” post — I’ve been shy to post in the forum but I had to share this one.

I was doing work with a friend (M) in a quiet library when I noticed his eyes getting watery and his nose getting red. A few minutes pass and he raises his elbow up to his face with a sharp inhale, but no sneeze. 
 

after this false start his nose seems to be getting itchier and I have my face buried in my laptop to hide my blush. He again has that pre-sneeze face and starts hitching, but exhales forcefully as he lost the sneeze again.

 

after a couple of minutes of false starts he begins to build up again, his breathing getting ragged and his face tilted up towards the light until he sneezes three times, the first two he failed to stifle and the last a loud, wet, “ha-Atcho”

The poor guy looked so embarrassed (and I kept my face hidden and squeaked out a meager “bless you”
