webshots searches

Ok I had done up to page 217 out of 4k or the like so I tried to resume from there... but now the pages are just 130... so I'm going backwards from 130, now done up to 101 except pages 113-114 and 116-117 that wouldn't open

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Well, it has been a long time in coming and it's not yet the way I want it to work, but Webshots has finally provided the ability to show the most recent search results first. You perform the search as always, but now there is a line at the top of the results page that says "Sort [relevance] [newest first]". The default is "relevance", which displays ALL hits. If you click on "newest first", you will get a list of new additions. Whichever is active appears as white text in a solid red box. Please note that this does NOT reorder the list of ALL hits. For example, as of this writing, a search for "snee*z*" produces 14,277 results. Clicking on "newest first" reduces this to 79 results. Based upon some stuff I think I read in a Webshots blog, we may get the feature we really want (i.e., sorting ALL search results by date) sometime in the first part of 2007. We shall see --- don't hold your breath. Nevertheless, this new feature even in its limited form is an improvement.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: If you find a photo that you really like and you want to make a note of where you found it, include the name of the album in which it is found and the owner's username in addition to the URL of the page where you found the photo. You might also want to include the photo caption and/or title if either contains useful keywords. Webshots has a habit of relocating the photos, so just having the URL of the page on which you last saw it is often not enough. That is why so many (if not most) of the links provided in this thread no longer work. Believe me, I wish I had realized this sooner. Of course, photos will always disappear forever at the discretion of the photos' owners, but at least this way if their owners have not removed them from Webshots, you should still be able to track them down.
