gryffin
It must be a very Anglo-Saxon thing... at least, I've seen only one person ever doing it in Italy (and luckily it didn't work) and never did it myself. Sounds so much like a cartoon thing to me - which makes it really strange that I have not seen anyone doing it in Oxford Link to comment
HerSneezer
It can have some effect if the inducement is from some allergen or other particle you're slowly inhaling. Not as effective as pinching to hold it off, though. Link to comment
sneezerwoman
Sometimes it works for me, then it runs away and comes back again, then I put my finger under my nose, but usually the sneezes just come out. Link to comment

Heathcliff
I've tried this in private and it doesn't really work for me. I've only ever seen one person do it in public- a woman, who didn't prevent the sneeze, but sort of stifled it against her finger. Link to comment
Lynne
as HOL discovered last night, doesn't work for me. Link to comment
Morningsmith
It works for me, at least temporarily, which is a shame. If it didn't I'd always sneeze that way. Link to comment
