Fever in the media

I know there are at least a few of us around who are really into this. After scavenging the internet for the past few months, I have a decent collection, and I bet you guys do, too! I felt like giving back to this community for a change, and I thought it would be fun to pool our resources.

(btw, if this thread belongs somewhere else, please help me out! I'm relatively new here.)

I generally prefer male caretakers, so most of what I have features sick women. If you have male-centered clips or stories that you'd like to share, that's great, too. I'm also sharing exclusively live action, but animated posts are welcome.

Oh, and I'm putting in the time stamp for when these get "interesting," if it's more than like a minute in. If other posters could do that, too, it would be much appreciated.

Anyway, here goes:

General Hospital's "The Virus" plotline might be the greatest thing that's ever happened. I stumbled upon it on youtube and milked it for all it was worth. There's something good in almost every clip and it's definitely worth browsing on your own, but these are my personal favorites:

1.

2.

starting around 3:02

3.

starting around 2:05

4.

5.

Here's some Christian propaganda. I bet they weren't intending it to be used for this purpose. lol

http://www.youtube.c..._PzB6RPkN4&NR=1

And... here are two that are not in English. I <3 the power of suggestion.

1. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=3H8D5lI9vRc

might want to skip to around 2:17

2. http://www.youtube.c...feature=related

starting around 4:36

And here are some male ones!

1. http://www.youtube.c...cdaFzqzF9c&NR=1

2. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=gR95_yNZH9c

sort of scattered throughout. there's a good scene starting around 9:40 (How many times can they say "fever" within a five minute period? *giggles compulsively*)

3.

Finally, I love Healer Pomfrey's fics. She specializes in hurt/comfort and is a great writer! Here's her page on fanfiction.net:

I hope you guys like these!

I haven't had a chance to follow the links yet but I just had to leap in here and say WHAT A GREAT IDEA!

I'm as much a fever-fetishist as a sneezing-fetishist and this is going to make me a very happy girl. I can just tell.

I love you, Amelie!

Oh woah brilliant idea! Caretaking (and especially fevers) are a HUGE part of my fetish. Definitely excited to peruse these later. Thank you thank you!! :D

Awesome! I'm happy this is garnering enthusiasm :) And it's nice to hear from like-minded fetishists! Let me know what you think of the clips - I hope my tastes aren't too idiosyncratic. Love you, too, Salamander!

This is not really from a soap, but there is an episode of the show "Emergency" on hulu where the episode is basically about two incredibly sexy men (Brackett and Johnny) Having a really high fever they got from a girl they rescued. Lots of sweat.

Ooh... Which episode is it?

I'm not sure if this really counts but in the Bring Me The Horizon song 'Sleepwalking' one of the first lyrics are 'My secrets are burning a hole through my heart and my bones catch a fever'.

Also since soaps have ENDLESS fevers, I thought I may just list a few. In 1999, there was a story with a character named Jason (Who I hate) was shot (No blood is shown) and Liz takes care of him and nurses his fever. If you wanna watch the whole story there is a playlist just type in "1999 Liason Jason is shot", and it should come up. but if you want to skip to the fever talk heres the link.

and this one has forehead feeling in the beginning

Sorry about that second link! this one should work

Ugh, that is AMAZING! What the HELL!?!?! stretcher.gif

What a great find. No idea about the characters but that guy has a great voice and his little noises just kill me. And that fever check with his cheek because her hands are cold (wouldn't her face be cold too? No wait, I don't care. It's hot.) So much fever goodness for me in this one. Love. it.

I can't find this on youtube, but in season 2 of M*A*S*H, the episode "Carry On, Hawkeye", towards the end Hawkeye catches the flu that is going round the camp, and there's a moment where Margaret puts a thermometer in his mouth and then puts her hand on his forehead. Just for a second he seems almost to relax into her hand as she does.

Great topic! The "Emergency!" episode in particular was right up my alley. :-) And snufflebunny, I just watched (all 11 seasons of) MASH, and I was amazed at how much caretaking and how many fevers there were among the main characters! I can't think of all the episodes off the top of my head (I should've made a list as I went along), but "Carry On, Hawkeye" is a great example. Thanks to everyone upthread for the links!

The film Antiviral has a lovely scene where the main character stumbles around feverishly for a good ten minutes. Also he's pretty much just sick throughout the movie - fever, rash, woozy as hell. The movie opens with him wrapped in a scarf taking his own temperature. He also wakes up sweaty, feverish, and shivering early on in the movie and does a nose swab. This particular actor seems to specialise in mumbling and looking convincingly ill so it was an absolute joy to watch. Do be warned there is some spitting up of blood, lots of needle going into skin shots and other instances of body horror, so don't watch if you get skeeved easily.

Henry Cavill (from "Superman" and "The Tudors") has a fever and chills and tears up a bit in this clip from a film called "Laguna":

I love that song. With a passion.

Oh my goodness I tried to watch some scenes from that movie a while back and I found even the tame fever scenes to be disturbing and uncomfortable to watch.

I watched Antiviral yesterday when I was browsing through this thread and the other one specifically about Antiviral, and I was amazed by how okay I was with pretty much the whole thing. Didn't love the body horror, REALLY didn't love the amount of blood in the last half hour or so, and the ending was just... yeah. But! Where else do you get an entire movie of the main character (especially Caleb Landry Jones) all feverish and shivery and weak? The only thing that was missing for me was any sort of comfort/caretaking. So, overall review: I didn't love it, didn't hate it, can definitely see why people wouldn't want to to watch it. *shrug*

I will say that the mention in the other thread that Caleb was sick for a huge chunk of the filming on XM:FC was this wonderful little bonus, poor guy. Here's a quote from an article from craveonline:

How did you approach acting sick for a majority of the movie?

Well, I’ve been sick for a very long time. When I did X-Men[:First Class], I was sick for about six months, never really got better. Then it went away and came back, went away and came back, went away, came back. So for a very long time I was very, very sick. As an actor, you pay attention very closely to everything that happens to you and you’re constantly watching others as well, trying to just find out where everything comes from. So I was holding on to knowing that I needed to know this and to remember it so that I could somehow, someday express it as real as possible. Then this film came and I figured that’s exactly why I was sick for so long.

What did you have for six months?

I had tonsillitis, but I was in Europe at the time and I kept drinking and what not so it never got better, the antibiotics and what not. So it was my own fault.

aww.

In any case, watching that film DID remind me that one of my favorite movies would be perfect for this thread! Okay, has anyone else seen Brick? It's a 2005 Rian Johnson film starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt (wub.png ) with a lot of the same folks who ended up working on Looper. It's this weird super-stylized noir detective film set in a modern high school, and I love it. In large part because of the writing and the plot! But also because 1) it's Joseph Gordon-Levitt (wub.png ), and 2) his character just gets more and more exhausted and sick and sad throughout the film until what is probably my favorite scene in a movie ever where he's laying in bed in a more-or-less stranger's house and he's bloody and bruised and feverish and grieving and crying and it's just all of my buttons at once and then the lead girl gets into bed with him and is kissing him and smoothing his hair and holding him and letting him cry and. Phew. Sorry. Got incoherent for a moment there. happy.png But yes! I highly recommend it for a lot of reasons, but that is most definitely on the list.

p.s. Love that BMTH song, in no small part because of the fever line. (This Wild Life's cover of it is lovely as well.) Hozier also has nice fever lines! There was one in my signature for a little bit there. From "Work Song": and I was burnin' up a fever/didn't care much how long I lived; from "In the Woods": My head was warm/my skin was soaked/I called your name/'til the fever broke. Bonus: It's just great music in general, that whole album.
