Sad Music (or music that just makes you cry)

I listen almost exclusively to what my friends say is all sad music. Anyone here has ever heard of Emilie Autumn? Here are a few of her songs.

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=xQCAo5tKFyc (Shallot)

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=BnPVwCCiyog (Gloomy Sunday)

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=f_iptzMstA4 (Mad Girl acoustic)

Yes! I adore EA. Mad Girl and Shallot are definately tear-jerkers. I don't so much like the Gloomy Sunday cover, though. 'Thank God I'm Pretty' by Emilie Autumn is sarcastic and funny, but also pretty sad when you really look into what she's trying to say,

The songs

"Hold My Heart" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z52WaOr1-g

"Father's Eyes"

(makes me think about my dad- he was an absolutely *amazing* father and one of the people whose gifts of love and encouragement I seek to emulate)

Sadly enough- this has sometimes.... "Collide" - long story- but I am embarrassed to admit that there has been tears on my face on more than one occasion w/ this song

Anyway... enough of that.

I don't these are even to be found on YouTube, but three songs that get to me every damn time are 'Just So' by Agnes Obel, 'Homunculus' by Chris Smither and 'Sad Lisa' by Cat Stevens. OH god that last one. cry.gif

studio version

stage version

One song that makes me cry like a baby is 'The Last Leviathan' performed by the Fisherman's Friends

I saw them perform it live in St. Ives this year, and I was in floods before the end of the first verse!

- This one does it every time "Bright eyes" by Simon & Garfunkel, & the movie it accompanied 'Watership Down' was also pretty sad which i think adds to it.

http://youtu.be/qtivSTZrezc- 'Time to say Goodbye' by Andrea Bocelli & Sarah Brightman admitly it's only the main version that's sung n English but still the whole song gets you, it was played at my Grandmother's funeral last year whilst we left the church as her coffin was being carried out... & well you can imagine the tears.

@ James- I love that song- it is gorgeous- and I'm a *huge* Sarah Brightman fan. I can most definitely imagine that would be... Really powerful!

BHAAA I didn't even know there was a version of that out there! omg.gif I heard that umpteen years ago sung by an Irishman with a great voice and mad skills on the guitar, and I was a child and thought it was his own work (and also that it was called 'The Whale Song'). We had it on tape. It must still be around my parents' house somewhere. The guitar accompaniment was one of the most powerful things I'd ever heard in my life.

Thank you for bringing that song back to me. heart.gif I'll try and find you a recording of the version I knew!

ETA: Holy sound, I did find it. It's in the list. http://www.reverbnation.com/larrysean/songs

If it's country music that makes you cry, this is a must.

Against The Grain by City and Colour

The Son Never Shines on Closed Doors by Flogging Molly

Wish You Were Here by Within Temptation

Dead Boy's Poem by Nightwish

The Saddest Song by The Ataris

This one really hits home with me.

What If by Kate Winslet

Wait For Me by Theory of a Deadman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlXbQway9ws&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Warmness on the Soul by Avenged Sevenfold

Snuff by Slipknot (I know, Slipknot right??) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkFHlAdGGV4&feature=youtube_gdata_player

There are hundreds more but I'm getting tired :P

Oh man, I don't usually cry over music unless I'm upset, but I do know some songs that make me kind of emotional/sentimental.

I don't mean emotional as in bawling my eyes out, but it's not like that never happens either..... XD

They just make me feel.... stuff.

Watching this video made me upset, and the music didn't help much either heh.gif The song is called "Yozora no Kiseki (A Night to Remember).

Phil Collins - You'll Be in My Heart

Anberlin - Inevitable

Gorillaz - El Mañana

Evanescence - Missing

Hollywood Undead - The Loss

Paul Williams - You and Me Against The World

Avril Lavigne - Keep Holding On (it reminds me of my dog because he helps me through a lot)

Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now

My Little Pony - Luna Forgiven (it's a fan-made song)

Inspired by the book/movie/TV tearjerker topic -

What songs make you cry?

Or, if you're not the type who cries easily to music: what song or piece of music to you find exceptionally heart-wrenching or otherwise emotionally moving?

Youtube links are most welcome. *puppy eyes*

Some of mine are-

  • (because my heart has dubbed this my LGBTQ pride song, apparently)

..

Never heard of Ane Brun

You know that was originally an 80's Cyndi Lauper song?

Liked that song when I was a kid. It was originally supposed to be about about God of course but it's good because can double as a father daughter song.
