Why is lesbianism considered attractive?

I mean it. I am not a homophobic. I respect lesbianisms and don't have any objections to any of that stuff, but why is considered like dead sexy to love another woman? It's all around in the media in TV shows and on the internet men getting really turned on when lesbians kiss. And apparently it makes a woman like 60% hotter if they are a lesbian. I mean is there a straight answer? Why does this turn men on? As I said I'm not a homophobic.

Heterosexual men generally like tits. Two women together = two pairs of tits. It's basic math, really.

I do kinda feel like there is a double standard there. two men together seems to get the polar opposite reaction

The patriarchy, plain and simple. I definitely agree with the fetishised thing, too. Women are beings whose worth in society is equated to their sexual desirability. It fucking sucks, and I for one will not let it affect my life, but it can't be denied.

I've noticed it's gotten to the point where 13 year old girls are kissing other girls purely to obtain the attention of boys, who are also conditioned by social convention to find the idea appealing. :/

It makes me sad firstly that girls don't kiss other girls all the time because they want to, but to be deemed as more attractive, and also the fact that boys don't feel comfortable or even feel repulsed by the idea of kissing other boys. I just pray that as people get older they start to realise that they don't have to give in to peer pressure and they are in charge of their own sexuality and anyone who has a problem with it can get the fuck out of their life.

Interestingly enough, (stupid, stupid) girls I know who regularly kiss other girls when drunk and around boys think that lesbians are disgusting. Go figure.

Society is dumb. I can't piece together a great rant right now, but I would love to write an essay on this subject some time after some proper research.

On another note. Lesbians are hot. Gay men are hot. Straight people are hot. Pansexuals, transsexuals and everything else in between is hot. :P

Not in the world of slash fanfiction and fanart created by women.. Quite the opposite, actually. Loads and loads of straight and bisexual (and gay) women find the thought of two men together incredibly attractive. The mainstream media is slowly becoming more aware of this fact, but since we live in a patriarchy, female desires still don't get the same attention as male desires do. Hence, men's love for lesbian action is more well-known than women's love for man on man action.

As for me, being a bisexual-leaning-towards-lesbian woman, I often have a hard time understanding what's so friggin awesome about straight love and sex. :bleh:

On a lighhter note, a nice lesbian embrace offers four BUTTOCKS, not four breasts, as explained by Aristophanes just before he starts sneezing..............

^^^ YUPPERS! I find it really funny. So many hetro guys that think that 2 homosexual guys = ICK!!!!!!! RUN AWAY!!!! But 2 lesbians... "Oooooo.... there are FOUR of them..... *insert Homer Simpson drooling sound here*" It's just silly... I want to say "Hello.... you DO realize that they have absolutely NO interest in you whatsoever, don't you?? There is NO way that you are going to "flip" them." :bleh:

Actually... for a laugh with this, read a lot of Ian Fleming's books with James Bond- he seems to encounter a decent amount of lesbians, who somehow suddenly "become straight" *just* to have the evidently overwhelming *privilege" of getting to sleep w/ him. :bleh::lol:

It's funny because even though there are girls who are totally into m/m, I've never seen or heard of one that has an ICK issue with lesbians.

You lot may not be homophobes, if you say so, but you are certainly anti-feminists. Otherwise you would know that it is the duty of all sisters to reject males and make only lesbian relationships, abandoning any male children you may have been unfortunate enough to acquire.

I am going to civilly call you out on being deliberately inflammatory here. Not acceptable.

edit: actually i realized im a lesbian and richard here is unironically correct

I have duly removed the offending clauses. Without prejudice, of course.

My fantasies agree with TMA and AnonyMouse. Thinking of two attractive women together removes the need in the picture for a guy, who I'm much less likely to find attractive. And the women don't need to be lesbians per se. They mostly need to be absent a guy.

Hmm...well, I'm a woman and I have to say that I think there is absolutely nothing more erotic than two men getting it on. I guess it's all preference though, isn't it? It all comes down to the question of constructivism vs essentialism: do we find it attractive because society has brainwashed us into thinking it is, or is it all just biologically ingrained?

Agreed on body parts math...including noses for preferred gender sneezes. I also think that straight guys have a harder time ignoring the less desired male presence where women have an easier time seeing themselves "in her shoes"

I agree with this. I once made the comment that the difference between men and women is that if a man was told he could have his fantasy woman, but another man would be there, too, he would say "no thanks!", whereas If a woman was told she could have her fantasy man, but another woman would be there, too, she'd say "when and where?". Not only did the women I was with agree with me, all the men did, too!

That was actually the first thought I had when reading this. (and for the record, I'm a lesbian myself).

If the patriarchy can't get off its ass and write its own tales (lesbian or otherwise) to contribute to the story section, then they will just have to live with it as it is, won't they?

*goes back to drawing fetishy M/M smut*

My sentiments exactly.

There are too many good responses already that I want to quote, but then my response won't be at all original xD but yes, on one level I agree with the body parts math introduced by AnonyMouse, and on another level, I think that many men fetishize lesbianism in the same way many women fetishize two gay men together.

Count and VoOs hit the nail on the head. Just look at our stories and art boards. The first page of stories alone currently features 8 M/M, including one new "Shevine" fic, and just 2 F/F. I'm not saying I'm against any of that, we're all here to support and share our weird tastes. What I am saying is that most straight guys don't see any attractiveness in M/M that women do, and most straight women (likely including the OP) don't see the attractiveness in F/F that we guys do.

Hell, I'm a straight guy and I don't really see the specific appeal in F/F either. I'd say I feel the same about it as I do with M/F. The type of relationship doesn't really matter to me as long as it's written well.

I have several straight female friends who prefer lesbian porn to straight porn. Just saying. :)

Agreed - although the guy I am picturing is me. There again, when I picture two women, the character of me become oddly redundant...

True, true.

Somebody mentioned that since we live in a male-centric society, we cater more toward fulfilling mens desires more so than women's. I think that sums it all up right there. Men are more used to consuming pornographic material than being the object of it. But let's also not forget that society's acceptance of women exploring their same sex desires is still a relatively new phenomenon that came about only a couple generations ago. So we still have a way to go before this double standard is a thing of the past.

Of course, that's why I said "most"! :) I should have also said "most guys do" instead of "we guys do," as Blah-san pointed out not all men care for F/F either. Point is, overall, everyone's tastes are different! There, end of discussion!

Well I can sort of understand the appeal of two women together, but only because like voos and others have said, as a straight woman I enjoy reading m/m slash. I can't really explain why I like it so much, I can only say that it's this community's fault for getting me into it! At first I just thought I liked it because I associated it with all the fetish slash fic I've read, but then I started reading non-fetish slash and found I really enjoyed that as well.

I think the main difference is that it's a real cliche in the media for men to fantasize about two women together, but I'm not sure I've ever seen it anywhere in the media where a woman fantasized about two men together. However it seems to be extremely common on the internet, especially in fanfic communities.

I don't have much to add to the responses which have already been made- but as someone said, men usually get off on the fetishised idea of lesbians rather than real life lesbians. How many times do you see porn depicting butch, short-haired, feminist lesbians? (A bit of a stereotype perhaps, but I've been to a couple of gay pride events in the past, and there do exist woman like that.)

I didn't think I was particularly into the F/F thing, but recently I found myself fantasising about two young women I know at work kissing and having sex; so I guess I do like it. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, as long as you recognise it as a fantasy, and remember that other sexualities weren't created for your personal pleasure!
