Song Lyrics Game

High on Lullabies

Recommended Posts

Same principle as the movie quote game, but for song lyrics. Someone posts a song lyric, next person guesses and assuming they are right gives the next lyric.

I think answers should include both artist and title, obviously some songs may have been recorded by more than one artists, so any artist who has recorded the song will be correct.

Okay, here goes. Easy one to start with:

"When your day is long, and the night, the night is yours alone."

REM, Everybody Hurts!

You shrug, and it's the worst,

Who truly stuck the knife in first?

Amy Winehouse-You know I'm no good :)

Like a child you whisper softly to me

You're in control just like a child

Now I'm dancing ???

Madonna Like a Prayer

I thought I was a fool for no one,

But ooh baby, I'm a fool for you.

You're the queen of the superficial,

How long before you tell the truth?

Supermassive Black Hole - Muse

I love Muse. I watched their Glastonbury set over the weekend. Sooo good. :)

"Someone told me long ago

There's a calm before the storm.

I know,

It's been coming for some time."

CCR - Have You Ever Seen the Rain?

"Sitting here wasted and wounded at this old piano

Trying hard to capture the moment, this morning I don't know"

Oooh, man...love this song. "Bed of Roses" by Bon Jovi!

Maybe there's a God above

but all I've ever learned from love

was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you...

Maybe there's a God above

but all I've ever learned from love

was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you...

"Hallelujah" (by Leonard Cohen, made popular by Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, k.d. lang, and myriad others). One of my favorite songs.

I will build my love a bower

By yon clear crystal fountain.

And on it I will pile

All the flowers of the mountain.

Wild Mountain Thyme

Sad deserted shore

Your fickle friends are leaving

But then again you know

It's time for them to go

But I I will still be here

I have no thoughts of leaving

I do not count the time

Is it wrong for me to answer this one? Probably. But I've known so few of these! "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" by Sandy Denny.

My friends are telling me that he's no good,

He isn't treating me the way he should.

"He really loves me," that's all I can say,

Before my tears fall, I just walk away.

As no one's gotten the last quote yet, and I don't want to see this game die, I'll contribute one of my own. Feel free to ignore my quote and answer SneezeChick's if you know that one.

and I knew then it would be

a Life Long thing

but I didn't know that we

We could break a silver lining

Ok, I will give you the whole verse:

"Slower, slower,We don't have time for that, All I want is to find an easier way, To get out of our little heads. Have heart my dear,We're bound to be afraid, Even if it's just for a few days, Making up for all this mess."

There is a more famous version of this song by a female artist which did not include this verse - which is why I choose it :)

I'm thinking that last quote is "Run" by Snow Patrol.

I go about my business, I'm doin' fine

Besides, what would I say if I had you on the line?

Correct. And for those that have not heard this wonderful song, here is the link to YouTube with lyrics:

Ok, sorry to interrupt there, someone answer sneezedreamer's because I don't know it :winkkiss:

That's "You Were Meant for Me" by Jewel (off her first album). One of my favorite songs :D

"And as the skies turn gloomy

Night winds whisper to me

I'm lonesome as I can be"

I had no idea what that last quote was from, and then I heard it on Pandora today..."Walkin' After Midnight" by Patsy Cline. :) Good song choice, Lynne.

Crooked landing, crooked landlord

Narrow laneway filled with crooks

This is where we used to live

That's the Barenaked Ladies - Old Apartment

This one's a little tricky, so I'll give you a whold verse:

The boys and girls in the clique

The awful names that they stick

You're never gonna fit in much kid

But if you're troubled and hurt

What you got under your shirt

Will make them pay for the things that they did.

Teenagers - My Chemical Romance.

Haven't heard that for so long! :D

It's the edge of the world

And all of western civilization

The sun may rise in the East

At least it settles in the final location

Oh, thank god! The first one I've been able to answer since "Hallelujah"!! :D

Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers, of course.

And then one day you find

Ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run

You missed the starting gun

Wahoo, 'tis the Floyd! :D

Pink Floyd - Time

Next up:

In a tree by the brook

There's a songbird who sings

Sometimes all of our thoughts

are misgiven

Zep, "Stairway to Heaven"

And you want to travel with her

And you want to travel blind

And you think maybe you'll trust her

For she's touched your perfect body with her mind

Leonard Cohen (one of my absolute favorites) - Suzanne

How about:

I'd studied your cartoons, radio, music, TV, movies, magazines

Richard said, "Withdrawal in disgust is not the same as apathy"

A smile like the cartoon, tooth for a tooth

You said that irony was the shackles of youth

You wore a shirt of violent green, uh-huh

Link to comment

REM - What's the Frequency Kenneth?

(The first time I heard it I thought the line about the shirt of violent green was actually "You want to shag, violently!")

Here's mine, should be easy I think:

"These people round here wear beaten down eyes sunk in smoke-dried faces

So resigned to what their fate is

But not us (no, never)

Not us (no, never)

We are far too young and clever."

Link to comment

Woohoo, one I know!

Come on Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners

Or the lip-print on a half-filled cup of coffee

That you poured and didn't drink

But at least you thought you wanted it,

That's so much more than I can say for me
