High on Lullabies

Recommended Posts

Heh, I know this - it was a big hit when I was a teenager (golden oldies I know, lol) - Good year for the Rose, Elvis Costello.

Ok, heres another one from the same era:

"Now I stand here waiting...

I thought I told you to leave me

While I walked down to the beach

Tell me how does it feel

When your heart grows cold"

That would be Blue Monday by New Order. Great track!

Continuing my classic rock theme:

He's licking his lips

He's ready to win

On the hunt tonight for

Love at first sting.

Ohh, I like this theme.

Rock You Like A Hurricane - Scorpions

Sleeping very soundly on a Saturday morning

I was dreaming I was Al Capone.

There's a rumour going round

Gotta clear outa town

Yeah, I'm smelling like a dry fish bone.

Stone Cold Crazy - Metallica

Ok then, in the same theme:

"Won't take no prisoners, won't spare no lies, nobodys putting up a fight, I've got my bell, I'm gonna take you to hell"

That'll be AC/DC - Hells Bells

Keep that classic rock coming! :)

So can't you see me standing here,

I've got my back against the record machine,

I ain't the ones that you've seen,

Oh, can't you see what I mean?

Van Halen, "Jump". By the way, HOL, it makes it harder if you don't put the answer in the "what are you listening to now" thread just after you post here.

And now I feel a little like I've cheated, since I might not have gotten the answer without that other post, but, oh well.

Wife and kids, household pet

Army green was no safe bet

The bullets scream to me from somewhere

Rooster - Alice In Chains

I've really been diggin' Alice In Chains, lately. I think my inner teenager must be escaping at last! :D

Let's annoy him a little with this one:

"Don’t you draw the queen of diamonds, boy

She’ll beat you if she’s able.

You know the queen of heats is always your best bet."

"Desperado", The Eagles! Love that song! :D

Deviating from the classic rock theme a bit now...

And I buy the bar a double round of crown

And everybody's getting down

An' this town ain't never gonna be the same

"Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)" by Big & Rich :D

Wake up with bloodshot eyes,

struggle to memorize,

the way it felt between your thighs,

the pleasure that made you cry.

Makes me wonder by Maroon 5.

"And high up above or down below,

When you're too in love to let it go,

But if you never try then you'll never know,

Just what your worth."

Recognised that one straight away (and no I didn't look it up)....it's 'Fix You' by Coldplay

Ok here's mine (nice easy one, lol):

"I'm sick of sitting 'round here trying to write this book,

I need a love reaction,

Come on baby, gimme just one look"

Ok, just to keep this going, here's some more lyrics from earlier in the song:

"I ain't nothing but tired

Man I'm just tired and bored with myself

Hey there baby,

I could use just a little help"

Well there's ninety-seven crosses

Planted in the courthouse yard

For ninety-seven families

Who lost ninety-seven farms

Rain on the Scarecrow by John Cougar Mellencamp.

I've come to my senses,

That I've become senseless,

I could give you lessons on how to ruin your friendships,

Every last conviction, I smoked them all away,

I drank my frustrations down the drain, out of the way.

"The Science of Selling Yourself Short" by Less Then Jake

"Something's coming over me I'll never be the same

And how can the same world that brought you here

Just come and take you away

And if there is a way that you can hear me when I pray..."

Sorry I can't put more, but that would give away the title of the song pretty quickly

Prozzak - Monday Morning! I used to listen to them a lot. Embarrassing amounts, actually. Nostalgia!

And if they pull you away from your bleaching pink surfboard

And stretch you across the wind

You'll make no sound -- wet leaves on a dry map.

Nothing, nobody.

The great leveller, or the great escape?

Well, it's been a little more than a week... I suspected this might be a little obscure. It was Mimi on the Beach by Jane Siberry. So here's something a tad more mainstream:

All the way from Washington

Her bread-winner begs off the bathroom floor

"We live for just these twenty years

Do we have to die for the fifty more?"

Young Americans by David Bowie. c:

Here's mine, it's a bit tricky:

"You easily get angry over trifles.

Take that seriously because it's important.

Please, don't lose your temper, don't get excited;

I still have a great deal more to tell you."

Advice by The Pillows! Love them

And no it was not tricky, I'd know that song anywhere.

However, this song might be a little tricky:

"Flying high above the sky

The battles down below look simplified

With no place to hide

But on inspection of the dust

I came upon this thing called trust

It helps us to adjust"

One of my favorite songs, it's amazing. :shy:

Happy guessing!

We are not alone by Karla DeVito

"Paint your smile on your lips

Blood red nails on your fingertips

A school boy's dream, you act so shy

Your very first kiss was your first kiss goodbye"

My one's not that hard but oh well I'm still going with it

You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi! One of my favorites of theirs ;)

They're complicated people

leading complicated lives,

and he complicates their problems

by telling complicated lies

He tells her he's sorry, she tells him it's over,

he tells her he's sorry, she says over and over

You've never really known that when the white flag is flown,

no one no one no one has won the war.

I think that's the Barenaked Ladies - the song title is either White Flag, or The Flag, or something similar. I hope that's not too vague of an answer!

Is it any wonder I can't sleep?

All I have is all you gave to me

Is it any wonder I found peace through you?

Turn to the gates of heaven, to myself be damned

Turn away from light

Eye by Smashing Pumpkins.

Ok, heres an oldie but easy if you are a fan of the group:

" So you run and you run

To catch up with the sun but its sinking,

racing around to come up behind you again,

The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death."

Time - Pink Floyd

Love the lyrics in that song. :D

One of my Dad's favourites:

"Well billy rapped all night about his suicide

How he kick it in the head when he was twenty-five

Speed jive dont want to stay alive

When youre twenty-five.

And wendys stealing clothes from marks and sparks

And freedys got spots from ripping off the stars from his face

Funky little boat race."

All the young dudes by Mott the Hoople, remember it well :D Can't remember the singers name but I know he went on to have a big solo career.

Another easy one, more up to date, from a fun Yorkshire band:

"oh - watching the people get lairy,

not very pretty I tell thee,

and walking through town is quite scary,

and not very sensible either."
