91. "The Dangers in Riding Airplanes"

Fandom: Sherlock (BBC)

Characters/Pairings: John Watson, Sherlock Holmes

Prompt: Airplane

"Airplanes carry lots of sicknesses, John." Sherlock quipped, sitting comfortably on the couch watching a televised orchestra concert.

John was huddled on the opposite side of the sofa, shivering underneath a blanket. He was wearing thick grey socks and his knees were pulled up to his chest. "Yes, I'b aware." he responded thickly, sniffling.

"Oh, please don't do that."

"Do what?"

"Oh, you know. Sniffling. Ugh." He shuddered. "I hate that."

John scoffed. "I'b sorry you're the one biserable here." He took a few hitching breaths before sneezing into his sweater sleeve. "Hih! Huh! Et'CHUHH! AhhH! Hah'ISHHHOO!"

"Ew. And sneezing."

"Sherlock! Could you dot be dice to be, ad least a little?"

Sherlock looked at him. "Why?"

"Because I feel t-terrible!" He was shaking a bit and his eyes were glassy.

Sherlock moved closer to him. "You look like you have a fever." He let his cool hand rest on John's burning forehead.

Suddenly, John gasped and jerked back, desperately trying not to sneeze on his friend. "Hehh! HehHH! Eh'SHOO! Hup'SHUHH! Hur'ESHOO!" He felt Sherlock pressed a soft handkerchief over his trembling nose. John reached up and took over, sneezing again then blowing his nose.

"Yes, you definitely have a fever."

"Okay, so see him? That's Captain Kirk, he's pretty much the leader." Looking for Bucky was proving to be more difficult than originally planned. At the moment, Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers were holed up in some motel, watching Star Trek on Sam's computer.

Steve nodded. "Okay. So that guy with the funny eyebrows? He's second-in-command?"

"Yep. That's Mr. Spock." Sam explained. "He's a Vulcan, which is why his eyebrows are like that. Half-human, too."

Steve's head was spinning. "Ahh... a-alright." His nostrils flared and his stifled a few sneezes into his fist. "Hh'NXT! Ahh... hahh... hah'GNNT!"

"Bless you." Sam told him, raising an eyebrow. "You've doing that for ahwile."

"What, sneezing?" Steve laughed, discreetly rubbing his itching nose. "Yeah, people tend to do that."

"Oh, c'mon man, you know what I mean. You gettin' sick?"

"N-no, I-- heh'SHH!"

"That's not convincing." Sam said, pausing the episode.

Steve blushed, rubbing his nose. "No, I'm just a little tired is all. H-hhahh... hang on, Sam." His breath caught and he pinched his nose closed with his thumb and forefinger. "Eh'SHHP! Hup'XXT!" For once, his normally immaculate blond hair looked dishevelled.

"Bless. You wanna go to bed?"

Steve forced a laugh. "Not really. I need a distraction. I'm just... I'm so scared we're not gonna find him."

"Steve," Sam said, looking at Steve very seriously, "we're definitely going to find him you know. It might take a few months, but we'll get there."

The blond nodded, smiling a little. "You're right. Thanks, Sam."

93. "Who Would Keep Tissues in a Lab?"

Fandom: The Avengers

Characters/Pairings: Tony Stark, Bruce Banner

Prompt: Cry

It's been a long night for Tony Stark.

Going to bed early was his initial plan, but it essentially ended up with him thrashing around and waking up in a cold sweat. It was some whacked out fever dream about animatronic singing and dancing animals, enough to leave anyone screaming.

So, to combat the insomnia and psychological effects of his fever, Tony stayed busy in his lab.

"Your body temperature has risen to 101.3 degrees Fahrenheit." JARVIS informed him.

Tony didn't stopped tinkering with the smaller pieces of metal he was using. "Sh-shud up, JARVIS." His breath hitched dangerously and Tony attempted to rub his nose into his shoulder, so as not to lose any of the progress he had already made.

"As you wish, sir."

"Ehh! Heh! Heh'NNCH! Ah'SSHH! Huh... huhH! Hih'XXT!" The man's hands shook as he sneezed, causing the mini project to crumble. "God dabbit." He swiped at his nose, searching for some tissues. Who would keep tissues in a lab? Not Tony, apparently.

He found some napkins and buried his nose in them, blowing noisily. Unfortunately, this had the adverse effect as he ended up sneezing again. "Heh'TCH! Hh'NGGT!" Tony usually sneezed in threes, so he waiting, nostrils quivering. The fit ended in a shuddery sigh of defeat.

"Can't sleep?"

Tony's eyes flicked towards the entrance, where Bruce Banner was casually making his way over. Tony sniffled discreetly, rubbing the tip of his nose with his sweatshirt sleeve. "I cad sleep whed I'b dead."

Bruce squinted at him in the dim lighting, coming closer. "Are you...? Have you been crying?"

"Have I been--? Whad? Doe!" Tony's nose was itching something fierce and he felt his eyes water. "Oh... this." he said, pointing to his red-rimmed eyes.

All at once, Bruce seemed to understand. "Oh. Are you sick?"

"Mr. Stark has an acute case of the common cold with a fever of 101.3 degrees Fahrenheit." JARVIS chirped, causing Dr. Banner to raise his eyebrows.

"JARVIS!" Tony snapped, rubbing his face tiredly. "I told you t-to..." He trailed off, eyes glazing over. Tony feebly rubbed at his nose, only magnifying the tickle. "Hah'ATCH! Hur'ESHH! Ahh... ahhH!" He felt himself gasp, desperate for a reprieve. Well this is embarrassing, he thought as his nose twitched. "Nn'CHH!" Face flushed, he gave a thick sniffle and reached in his pocket for the napkin.

"Bless you." Bruce said politely. "I think you should get some rest."

"I cad't." Tony retorted. "Keep having weird dreams."

Bruce nodded, completely understanding. "I know how you feel, really. During my time in India, I... well, a friend recommended a type of tea for me and I think it'd help you sleep, actually. It's called Tulsi. I have some in my room. I could fix you a cup."

Tony started to decline, but had a change in heart. "Thad would be great. HahH!" He pressed the crumpled up tissue to his red nose and exhaled slowly, staving off the sneeze. "Thad would be great."

94. "Missing Math"

It was mid-October and Stiles Stilinski had a fall cold. His eyes were glassy and his fever had risen to 101.2 degrees. Scott could smell it on him.

"Whoa, dude." he said, staring as Stiles slumped in his seat. "Christ, you know you've got--"

"A fever, yeah, I know."

"Then why are you...?" Scott didn't understand why Stiles would possibly be at school when he could be home resting up. In truth, every time Stiles fell asleep, he'd had nightmares about his mom. Really, there was no point in catching up on his z's when all he did was end up in a cold sweat, talking to himself.

"I can't miss m-math..." Stiles lied, trailing off as the urge to sneeze overwhelmed him. "Hh'NGGT! Her'XXXT!"

"Bless you." Scott responded as their teacher entered the classroom. "Honestly, who gives a damn about math?!"

"I do." Stiles snapped, scrubbing at his itching nose.

"Whatever, man."

Stiles barely got through physics, let alone math. By fourth period, during lunch, Scott tracked down Stiles. He was in the bathroom, rigorously blowing his nose. This apparently had the adverse effect on Stiles, who promptly unfolded the tissue and began to sneeze into it while Scott watched, concerned. "Hh'NNCH! Ah'CH! Hur'XNT! Ehh... hehH! TSH!" By the eighth sneeze, Stiles was getting dizzy and Scott could tell. He was used to his friend having sneezing fits, what with his allergies to everything, but eight even for Stiles was a little much. "ARSH! Hap'SHT!" Stiles stumbled, his vision swimming. Scott instinctively reached out and caught him.

"Shit. Stiles?" He could feel the heat radiating off his friend. "I'm driving you home, now."

Stile's eyelids fluttered open. "But... my car."

"Would you forget your Jeep for two seconds?" Scott asked gently. "I'll come back and get it later."

"Okay." Stiles finally agreed, sniffling. Scott threw Stiles' arm around him and then walked out to Scott's car. "Thanks, Scott." Stiles mumbled, eyes closing as he collapsed into the passenger seat.

"No problem." Scott answered. He ended up staying over at Stiles' house, just to make sure the kid got some shut eye.

Bobbi ignored him, opening his apartment door and nearly gasping. "Oh Clint, you look terrible." Indeed, there were dark circles under his eyes and his nose was a bright red.

"I honesdly wouldn't ged ady closer. I'b pretty-- hehhh... hehhH! Heh'TSCHOO! Contagious."

Again, Bobbi ignored him and joined him on the couch. "How long've you been like this? Why didn't you just call me?"

He cruelly mashed his fist against his nose in an effort to rub the itch away. "Because I didn't wand you to ged sigg too."

"Hey, whatever I have to do to get Dominic off my case."

"Is thad guy sdtill--" Clint sighed, exasperated. "H-hold od. Ahh... hat'SSCHHH!"

"Bless--" Bobbi began, but stopped when he held up a shaky hand.

"Ar'SHHHUHH! Nn'SHOOO!"

"Bless you." She plucked yet another tissue from the box of Kleenex on the table. "Uh oh. This is the last one. You want me to go get some more from the store?"

"D-doe." Clint mumbled, sleepily rubbing the underside of his nose. "Jusd sday with be, Birdie."

"Okay," she said, resting her head on Clint's shoulder, "okay."
