85. "Our Father Who Art In Heaven"

Fandom: Supernatural

Characters/Pairings: Dean Winchester, Castiel

"HDDZSHH!" Dean sneezes roughly into his elbow. The 'bless you' that follows comes so fast it's almost precognitive. Dean looks up quickly to see Cas watching him from the corner of the room.

"Cas! Dod't do thad!" Dean snaps, rubbing his nose. Castiel calmly walks over to where Dean is, sitting comfortably on the couch, and joins him. "You called me."

"I did dot!"

"Yes, you did." In truth, Castiel's lying but he only briefly recognizes this as a sin. He watches Dean's eyes flutter shut and his nostrils quiver. Father in Heaven, Cas thinks. He knows exactly what will happen next.

"Huh'HATZSHH! Hup'ESCHHHUH!"

"Bless you." the angel says, glancing curiously at Dean's reddened nose and watering eyes.

"What is the matter with you?"

Dean rolls his eyes and pretends to be insulted. "Excuse be?"

"The excessive water trying to escape your eyes, the change in your vocal quality and the repeated--"

"Ond second--" Dean interjects quickly before turning away from him. "Hur'ASHOO!" He shakes his head as if to clear it. "Whew, sorry. I'b sick. Id's kind of complicaded."

"Your nose ails you?" Castiel asks this in such a serious tone that Dean has to laugh a bit. "Yeah, I guess you could say that."

"Here?" Before Dean can protest, Castiel's hand is on the hunter's nose.

"C-Cas stop, you're gonna bake be... hhh... c'mon, I hafta-- ATZSHHCHSH!" Dean's cheeks flush from embarrassment.

"Bless you." Castiel responds, matter-of-factly.

Dean turns away, grumbling, and snatches close to eight tissues, not hesitating to bury his face in them. "Why'd you do that?" he demands.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners... "I do not have a good answer." Dean's sneezes just intrigue him, surely there can't be anything more to that.

Dean turns to look at him. "Wait a second. Do you like it when I...?"

"No." Castiel says, far too quickly.

"ECTSHCH!"

"Yes." he admits, guilty. Father forgive me.

86. "You're Doing a Fine Job"

"Nhhh..." Merlin groaned, tossing in his sleep. Arthur opened a bleary and eye and blindly groped for an opening in their tent. He drew back the fabric, allowing moonlight to illuminate the inside of the tent. Upon seeing the beads of sweat on his friend's brow, Arthur took a sharp inhale. "Merlin!"

The young man opened an eye. "Hmm?"

"You're sweating! Are you hot?"

"N-no." Merlin answered, confused. "I'm cold."

Arthur's heart sank. "That's what I was afraid of." He pinned the tent flap so as to let in some fresh night air. Then, he gently placed a hand on Merlin's forehead. "You've definitely got a fever. Probably from all the travel we've done, you could've picked it up anywhere. It has been pretty damp. Maybe it was the damp? Ugh, you idiot."

"'M fine..." Merlin tried brushing his hand away, but his breath caught instead. "Nn'TCH!"

"Bless. I'll be right back, I'm going to get some water." Arthur rummaged around until he found a cloth with the emblem of Camelot embroidered on it.

"Anything wrong, Sire?" Sir Leon asked as soon as Arthur stepped out of the tent. He'd been up keeping watch and noticed right away the worry in his king's face.

"Merlin has a fever. I'm fetching water to see if I can bring it down."

"Would you like me to?"

Arthur shook his hand, kneeling next to the brook. He submerged the cloth in the cool water, then rung it out. "No, no. I can manage, thanks."

Leon nodded and walked back to his post.

"Merlin," Arthur whispered, "how do you fare?"

"I t-told you. I'm f-fine-- hihhH'SHOO! Eh'SSHH!" He brought a hand to his nose, hoping to quell the itch. Arthur felt a pang of sympathy as he placed the wet cloth on Merlin's head. "It's cold, I'm sorry." Merlin shivered in agreement.

"Hiihh.... ihH!" Merlin placed a finger under his nose in efforts to stop the sneeze. Soon, Arthur's hand was upon his, bringing it down. "Don't do that, Merlin. You're just tormenting yourself."

Without having anything to effectively stop it, Merlin sneezed. "Het'CHH!"

"Bless you, Merlin." Arthur told him, brushing away his bangs. "I wish Gaius were here to help you."

"You're doing a fine job." Merlin breathed, smiling.

"Huh! Huh'ESHOOO!" Thor gave a loud, thunderous sneeze and growled as his Kart fell off Rainbow Road.

Tony smirked. "Id's dot by fault you're a terrible driver."

"Ha!" The god scoffed. "This road is merely too narrow for any vehicle to maneuver safely on. A road made of water droplets is not something to guarantee safe passage."

"Well, id's-- ihh'SHNT! Hep'CH! Huhh... huh'NXT!"

"Bless you, sir!" JARVIS responded politely.

Thor grinned and pointed at the ceiling. "That is a very handy machine! Courteous too."

"JARVIS wouldn't have to bless me had you dot sdeezed od me ad the meetig two days ago!" Tony said, with a roll of his eyes. Thor chuckled. "It is not my fault you--" His nostrils suddenly twitched and he sneezed into his arm. "Heh'KSHHH! I did not get you sick, Stark."

"Yeah, id was jusd a coincidence I'b sdeezing by h-hehhh... head off!" He rubbed his nostrils, annoyed.

"In fact," Thor said, sniffling, "I daresay it was you who passed this insufferable human disease on to me. It sure did not come from my planet."

"Eved if it was by fault, I'd be doing you a favour because you can't get colds on your plant. So ha! Uh... C-cad you..." Tony's eyes glazed over, but Thor got the message. He handed the box of tissues to Tony, who proceed to grab about twelve. "Hh'NCH! Het'NXT! Hihhh... hiHH--"

"Bless you." Thor said helpfully.

"Damn, you!" Tony responded, eyes watering. "I had to sdeeze ad you ruined id!"

"Again, I am failing to see how this is in any way my faul-- Hur'ESHHHOOO!"

"Ehhh..."

"Huh!"

"Ek'TSHHOO!"

"Hh'GNTT! Er'KXTT!"

"Bless you." JARVIS replied in an automated tone.

"I still think this is your fault." Tony told Thor, passing him the tissues. "There's odly one way to settle this: you, be, and Defino Square. Let's go."

"Manny Pacquiao is totally gonna crush him, man." Dean told his brother, taking another swig of beer. Sam chuckled, shaking his head. "Oh, right. Algieri won't win." The sarcasm was dripping from his voice.

"Do I smell a bet?"

Sam grinned. "You're on dude."

"What are you betting on?" a voice behind them inquired. Dean jumped, spilling Sam Adams all over his Black Sabbath t-shirt and Sam whipped his head around.

"Cas!" they both yelled. "Don't do that."

He smiled and sat in between them. "I am sorry for scaring you both." There was a whoosh as he unfurled his wings and sat back a little. "Why are those two men confined in a square?"

"It's a b-boxing match." Sam explained, rubbing his nose. "Th-they're... huh! huh'NXXT!"

"Bless you." Castiel answered, proud he knew the correct response. Dean smiled. "That was quite a girly sneeze, Samantha. But anyway, Manny's gonna beat his face to the ground but Sam begs to d-differ." The eldest Winchester quickly cupped a hand around his nose and sneezed twice. "Hah'SHSHOOO! Hep'ISHHHHOO!"

"Bless you." Cas said politely.

Sam felt like his nose was on fire. He rubbed it, feeling a sneezing fit coming on. It reminded him of when he was younger, how he'd get in the spring. "D-Dean... Can y-you..." He was gestured to across the room, where the tissues were. Dean pretended like he had no idea what he was referring to.

"Hmm?"

Sam's eyes fluttered shut. "Hh'GNT! Hih'KTT! H-hihh... ihh'KXXXT! Dean!" he managed. "T-tissues-- her'SSHH!"

"Okay, okay." Dean said, getting up. "Annnnd... Algieri is d-down-- hh'HUSHOOO!" He tossed the tissues at Sam, who's still sneezing helplessly into his jacket and raised his eyebrows as Castiel blessed him after every sneeze

"J-Jesus, what the hell?!" Dean jammed two fingers under his nose, staving off the sneeze. "Are we hehhhh... h-hexed?"

"Nn'CHHT! Ihhh... hihH! Hih'NXT! Huh'KKKT!" Sam sneezed.

"Okay, d-don't answer hahhh... that." He rubbed at his nostrils vigorously.

"Bless you. Bless you. Bless you."

"Cas!" Dean interjected. "You don't have to bless someone every time they sneeze, especially if they're like Samantha and won't shut UP!"

"I c-cad't help id! Nn'CHH!"

Dean squinted at the angel. "Cas... are your wings out?"

"Yes. Why?"

He roughly rubbed his twitching nose. "They d-don't-- Hur'ESHHHOO! Agree with us."

"Bless you." Castiel responded, folding his wings in. "Sam, Algieri is indeed on the ground."

"D-dammit! Nn'GNNT! I'll-- hihh... hih'SHHH! Be righd b-back."

"Bless you."

"I think we have some antihistamines in the cabinet." Dean laughed, blowing his nose a bit.

"I need to be on a boat... headed for L-London... tonight." Thomas Shelby wheezed, staggering over to the nearest chair. The chill in the air felt pleasant on his skin.

"Christ! You discharged yourself from the hospital?"

"I'm much... better." Even saying the words was a struggle. Curly watched, wide-eyed, as Charlie tried hard not to laugh.

"You must be jokin' lad, to say somethin' like that. You're sick as a dog."

The gang leader opened his mouth to suggest otherwise but ended up sneezing instead. "Hup'SHUHHH!" He dragged a hand down his face, as if trying to rub some life into it.

"G'bless." Curly said.

Charlie reached up and touched the side of his next with two fingers, as if checking for pulse. Tommy didn't even make a move to stop him. What was the point? "Oh, Tommy..." he said softly, with a touch of sympathy. "You're burnin' up."

"Exactly wh-why I need to be on a boat... in the fresh air." He broke off, coughing a bit, and winced as his lungs burned.

"Floatin' down the river--"

"Her'ESHHH! Nn'SHOO!" He sneezed into a loosely cupped hand and sniffed wetly, shaking his head when Curly offered his handkerchief.

Charlie continued his speech. "Floatin' down the river in the damp is exactly what you don't need, son. The damp will get to your chest and you'll catch your death, I swear it. Anyway, the only available boat we have is heavy and slow. She'll take four days before she's docked in London."

"That'll do fine. Mind if I-- heh'SHH! Borrow Curly for a few days?"

"You can, but I'm not sure what kind of a doctor he'll make."

"Oh, he'll be alright." Tommy stood up, chuckling, but ended up getting thrown into a harsh coughing fit. He braced himself on the wall with one hand for support until the fit was done.

"Curly, get her ready." Charlie nodded to the boat bobbing up and down on the dark water.

"Yessir."

After Curly had disappeared, Charlie looked Tommy straight in the eye. "You listen to me, take care of yourself. And don't you forget I completely discouraged this trip."

Tommy felt a sneeze coming but quickly placed two fingers under his nose and effectively stopped it, discreetly rubbing the irritated nostrils. "Fine, fine. If I don't return, tell Aunt Pol she can have the entire b-business."

Charlie laughed. "I sure will."

"I'b dot sick."

Jim couldn't help but laugh. "You're kidding me! I'm pretty sure you caught it from me, anyway."

"I'b a doctor Jib, dot a pehh... p-patient." Despite his best efforts, his nose twitched and he stifled a volley of sneezes against his wrist. "Hihh'CH! Hh'PSHH! Uhh... huhhH! Ep'NXXT'huh!"

"Bless you." Jim said, and handed him a tissue. "I know how you feel." He pointed to his own red, chapped nose. "We're in the same boat, you know."

"Oh, dod't eved start with be. I'b fide. I dod't deed you to be by mother." He rubbed his nose, irritated. "I'b probably just hahhhh..." Bones quickly jammed two fingers under his nose and exhaled. "I'b probably just allergic to sobethig in the cabin."

"Bones, look at you! You're-- ha'SHOO! Sick like me and you and I both know it."

McCoy only glared at him, nostrils flaring.

"You should be in bed, resting. There's no assignments for today anyway, it's like a day off."

"A doctor dever has a--" He quickly turned away from his friend, cupping his hand over his nose. "Hh'PSH! Hrh'SHUH! At'NNGGT!"

Jim sighed. "Bless you, Bones. Please, lay down. Don't make me order you. I'll make Spock your caretaker."

McCoy's eyes widened. "You wouldn't!"

Jim winked.
