Oh, I love these two. :) LOL! Pledging eternal love for a decongestant. ?

I just read the most recent drabble and it was adorable. Sometimes stories don't need to have sneezing, just the congested, feverish daze of a bad cold will do it. I'll have to work my way through the rest of these!

Title: Just Sleep

Prompt: Sleep by My Chemical Romance

Pairing: Liam/Gabriel

“Gabriel Lane, I'm not going to argue with you.” Liam folded his arms looking sternly at his boyfriend who sat on the couch doing his best to hide his chapped nose in his handkerchief.  “You're coming down with a cold, stop denying it.”

“Dearest,” The professor replied hoarsely forcing him to clear his throat which made him wince, “I've told you ma-an-ny times it’s m-mer..r...” He twisted away.

Heh’ehtscheww!

Eh...Ehh’tsscheww!

Hn’xdht!

“Allergies.” He grumbled blowing his nose wetly into the handkerchief.

Liam rolled his eyes as he paced from his desk to the couch. “It may have started out as that but the past few days I'm not so sure. I haven’t seen you rubbing your eyes and your cough has a rough edge to it. Love,” He sat down next to his boyfriend whose gazed remained on the floor. “The last thing I need while doing a sleep study is to be worrying over your well being.” He ran his hand down Gabriel's back.  “I'll reschedule I promise.”

“You’ve promised that before.” Gabriel snapped turning from Liam who kicked himself internally.  “Since we met I've more or less begged you to see a specialist over this and all you produce is excuses!” Breaking into a harsh cough Gabriel bent over hoping to catch his breath.

“Love, forgive me.” Liam placed his hand gently on Gabriel's back. “You understand how this whole....process makes me anxious.” He put his arm around Gabriel when the professor sat up. “I'm already going to be a mess I don't want you home sick without me.”

“I'm not sick.” Gabriel replied defensively. “Now I'll not hear anymore of this you're keeping the appointment. Do I make myself clear?” The professor stated in his best teacher voice.

Another of the few times Liam felt Gabriel had left off “young man”, the writer only managed a nod.  Strapped to a machine in a strange room worrying over his boyfriend health, yeah he was going to sleep wonderfully.

****

Two days later the pair sat in a cab headed to the sleep clinic for Liam’s assessment appointment, the actual study to take a few days later.  Liam leaned back head against the seat staring up wishing to any god that would listen the burning pain in his chest would lessen. Neither had slept well, Gabriel up most of the night a stuffy congested sneezing mess thanks to the cold he still denied having. Liam dropped off for at most an hour only due to not sleeping the night before.

Ehh’tsscheww!

Heh...Heh’ehtscheww!

His boyfriend sneezed harshly into his handkerchief quickly wiping his cherry nose.  Liam once again noted Gabriel hadn’t wiped his eyes in a few days making his argument toward a cold more plausible.  Sniffling wetly Gabriel blew his nose grumbling under his breath.

“Gabr...” Liam started.

“Enough Liam James.” The professor barked rubbing his nose wincing before pocketing his handkerchief.  “You're not cancelling.”

“Must you be so stubborn?” The writer sighed resting his head on his palm, elbow propped against the door.  A dense silence fell between the couple as Liam listened to Gabriel sniff thickly. He watched every motion out the corner of his eye, every indicator his dear boyfriend was ill yet denied it.  A quick cough Gabriel shielded into his coat lapel forced Liam’s nails into his palm.

Finally arriving they walked silently into the building, the tightness in Liam's chest worsened, his breathing quickened as he approached the desk.

“May I help you?” A redheaded receptionist asked pleasantly.

Liam’s mouth opened but no words came out. Heart beating against his chest he took a small step back. The room began to spin he bent over forcing air down his lungs. Feeling a gentle embrace around him he let Gabriel guide him to a seating area.

“My dear, breathe, look at me.” The professor's congested voice quiet, calm, reassuring.   “I'm right here.” The writer drew a breath meeting Gabriel's weary and worried face.

Liam gripped Gabriel's shoulder however his dizziness did not subside. “I can’t do this.” Squeezing his eyes shut he prayed the churning in his stomach would lessen.

“Take your time, I told the receptionist your name you...”

“No Gabriel,” Liam swallowed the bile which creeped up his throat. “I can’t, I feel nauseous, dizzy, if I stand I'll pass out. I can't...” He pulled Gabriel closer resting against the professor’s shoulder feeling a warming hand behind him. “I’m sorry.”

“Oh my dear,” Gabriel slowly stroked Liam’s back. “I understand. However it will only worsen the more you neglect it. I'll assist you I promise.”

Liam forced himself to focus on Gabriel who didn't look much better than he felt. As he went to respond the professor suddenly pulled back digging in his pocket.

Heh’etsscheww!

Heh...Hehtsxxxnt!

Nh'xxdt!

Taking a seat next to Liam, Gabriel blew his nose giving it a good rub in the process irritating the delicate skin around it.

“Love, you're sick, I'm.... not doing well.” His voice lowered Liam folded his hands together sticking them between his knees. “Please let's reschedule. At least wait until you're better.”

Gabriel exhaled sharply causing a hard cough which he masked in his coat sleeve. “Liam James Black,” He started giving the writer the impression he was about to be lectured, “If I concede to this, what assurance do I have you'll keep this declaration?”

Liam’s forehead creased momentarily then he relaxed a smile finally forming  “Oh you want my word I’ll keep my promise, got it.” He sighed shrugging, “Well I will.”  He tried sounding confident but knew he failed.

Sniffling Gabriel shook his head. “Dear, I need more than that.” He rubbed his nose against his handkerchief. “I will converse with the receptionist but you will also speak to Darian once we get home, understood?”

Liam finally felt the tightness release its grasp, breathing easier he nodded. “Yes, Gabriel Lane.”

A few minutes later the two stood outside Liam basking in the fresh air. The dizziness lingered but he longer felt like passing out. Gabriel took his arm helping him into a waiting cab.

Back at the loft Liam sat forward elbows propped on his knees, chin resting on the tops of his hands. He stared out at the waterfront watching a few kayaker’s paddle down the river.  Gabriel approached sitting down handing the writer a mug of tea.

“Thank you my love.” Liam said taking a sip then raising an eyebrow at the professor. “Lemon?”

Gabriel gave his trademark embarrassed look with a quick throat clear. “Your assessment of my predicament appears to be correct.” He sighed looking particularly miserable. “My allergies are bad enough many times it does appear I'm ill. Truthfully my dearest...” He paused as if struggling to find words, “I knew for a few days, I passed it off as allergies hoping not to worry you.” He finally met Liam’s eyes. “You’re getting top marks for reading my idiosyncrasies correctly.” Smiling Gabriel took another sip of tea.

Liam laughed quietly, “Well thank you, Professor.  I will reschedule I promise and I'll call Darian too.” He relaxed against Gabriel. “I'm tired.”

Gabriel reached around pulling Liam closer. Honestly he wasn't surprised given the toll his satellite had endured today. Hearing the soft rhythmic breathing of Liam asleep the professor also relaxed. A short time later they both slept peacefully for the first time in days

This actually made me laugh because it sounds like a conversation I have had with my kids. I am just as skeptical as Gabriel that Liam will keep his promise.

Title: Can't Figure It Out

Prompt: The Show by Lenka

Characters: Gabriel

“Jung's primary disagreement with Freud stemmed from their differing concepts of the unconscious.  Jung saw Freud's theory of the unconscious as incomplete and unnecessarily negative.”

Gabriel’s lecture was interrupted as ringing phone sounded off in his class. The professor frowned as he had a strict, “No electronic devices on” policy during class time. Looking around for the guilty party, something about the tone was familiar.

“Professor, it’s coming from there.” A student in the first row pointed to Gabriel’s briefcase. Gabriel shed his teacher persona blushing horribly dashing to his desk. No wonder it sounded familiar the ringing was his Skype.  Opening the briefcase Gabriel hastily pulled out the Kindle looking embarrassed up at his students most were trying not to laugh.

“Sorry.” He muttered pulling his glasses out. The screen came on, Gabriel swiped his finger across the screen to close the call, sadly though he yearned to converse with his dearest, now was not the time.

The ringing didn’t stop. Grimacing and frankly baffled Gabriel once again swiped the red dot but nothing happened.  He felt his face redden, probably the same color as that blasted dot.

“Professor,”

Gabriel looked up over the top of his glasses. “Yes?”  His voice quiet; vaguely ashamed he still didn't have a handle on the darn contraption.

“Sometimes when the Kindle is idle it takes a minute for it to ‘wake up’.” A boy Gabriel knew as Colton said. “Just give it a moment.”

Right as Gabriel was about to answer, Skype responded and the ringing stopped.  Quickly Gabriel lowered the volume so this wouldn't happen again.  “My apologies class.” He cleared his throat, set the Kindle back on the desk and pocketed his glasses. “It won't happen again.” He smiled.

There was a general murmur of acceptance mixed some giggling.

“Right then,” Gabriel drew a breath, relaxed and began lecturing again.

****

As class dismissed and Gabriel packed up he felt students approaching. Glancing up he saw Colton along with two other girls next to him.

“How can I assist you?” He asked closing his briefcase.

“We uh,” Colton glanced side to side at the girls. “We have a bet we need you to settle.”

Gabriel raised his eyebrows. “Oh?”

“It’s no secret that you don't carry a cell and Colton said your computer is ancient.” The black haired girl on Colton’s right said, Gabriel was pretty sure her name was Natalie.  “So we’re trying to figure out why you have a Kindle.”

“Oh! Well...” Gabriel ran his hand through his hair. “It was a gift.”

“Told ya.” Natalie elbowed Colton.

“Yes my Christmas present from...” Gabriel stopped, he wasn’t keen on discussing his relationship with students, but thinking of his dear Liam spread a blush across his cheeks.

“Your boyfriend?” The other girl said happily.

Gabriel flushed looking down at his fingers tracing the lines on his desk. “Yes.”

There was a collective “Awwww” from the girls. “Is that who called earlier?” Natalie asked.

“Yes, which is odd since he knows I'm in class.” Suddenly Gabriel wondered if his Liam was alright as he never called during the day.

“Ok thank you for settling our bet Professor Herondale.” Colton replied as he and the girls started for the door.

“Uh, no problem?” Gabriel wasn't sure how exactly he'd helped but no matter.  Pulling the Kindle and glasses back out, the older man opened Skype to make sure he hadn't missed another call.  Liam's icon was clear but there was a message.

Sorry love, half asleep hit the wrong button. Hope I didn't cause any trouble. Talk to you tonight.

Running his fingers gently over his dearest message Gabriel simply typed No trouble my dear, I await your call. Je T'aime mon amour.  A warm comforting sensation rose in his chest as he packed up and headed to the dungeon for office hours.

Title: I Can't Stand the Rain
Prompt: The Rain by Missy Elliott
Pairing: Liam/Gabriel

Gabriel Lane Herondale was in a bit of a pickle. A conundrum so to speak. He'd ventured out without his dear Liam to the bookstore. Liam being Liam wasn’t much interested and he was busy working on his column for this month so Gabriel took the opportunity to browse one near their loft.

Sadly he'd spent a bit too much time in it as when he'd finally made his purchase a glimpse outside made him frown.

It was raining. Hard. It being June, Gabriel hadn't needed a coat as the weather had been quite pleasant. The professor also wasn't carrying any cash on him so a cab was out of the question. He'd have to walk the few blocks back to the loft. In the rain.

Oh dear.

Removing his tweed jacket he draped it over his head in a sad attempt to cover himself. It did little good, he was soaked to the bone by the time he reached the corner. Needing to wait for the light to change didn't help. Others caught out in the weather scurried past him as he walked as fast as he could. Running was out of the question it would trigger his asthma.  Freezing Gabriel felt himself begin to shiver. His hair soaked stuck to his face, his jacket drenched provided no shelter from the driving rain. Folding his arms across his chest his teeth chattered.

Liam would not be happy. Gabriel could picture his dearests face already.

Sniffling he sighed, his nose was beginning to run. Finally he made it back to the loft. His relief turned to despair as he walked in; the lobby still had the air conditioning on so he was met with a chill seeping into his wet clothes.

Shivering madly he pulled out his handkerchief giving his nose a much needed blow. Riding the elevator up Gabriel hugged his body trying to save any heat he possibly could. Arriving at his floor he booked it for the door stumbling inside his book sliding out of his bag onto the floor.

"B-b-blood-dy -h-hell." His voice stammered through chattering teeth.

"Oh love," Liam’s voice filled with worry, Gabriel couldn’t even bear to look at him. "Here come with me." Liam maneuvered the shivering professor over to the bathroom. "Take a nice hot shower I'll get you a change of clothes.

Gabriel nodded frantically as he turned from Liam.

Ehh’tsscheww!

Eh....eh...oh no...Ehh’tsscheww!

"Won-nderf-f-ful." He sniffed rubbing his nose.  Again his breath hitched madly.

Hhh...heh...Heh’ehtscheww!

Nh'xxdt!

Sighing he walked into the bathroom. Liam gathered fresh clothes, a blanket and made tea.  As Gabriel emerged wearing the dry clothes Liam wrapped him in the blanket guiding him to the couch.

Heh’tschoo!

Eh’Eeeeschooo!

"Of course you caught a cold Gabe; can't be out in the rain ever." He grumbled as Liam handed him a mug of tea.

"I should have come with you." The writer said.

"No dear you're fine." Gabriel did not like how congested his voice sounded. "Obviously had I-I known it woul-d-d rain-n-n..."

Hhh...heh...

Liam quickly pulled out a handkerchief.

Gabriel grabbed his covering his mouth.

Hehtscheww!

Sniffling he blew his nose. "Thank you my dear."

"Did the shower help?" Liam pulled Gabriel into a hug.

"Yes I'm still chilly but no longer shivering." The older man replied relaxing against him. "Apologies dearest, it appears I'll be in need of your care for the next few days."

Liam smiled to himself. "Of course my love."

****

Two days later Gabriel lay a shivering mess on the couch. He’d been unable to shake the chill he'd caught in the rain, his cold escalating into a horrible fever.

Sweat beaded on his face as he ran his handkerchief over it. His hand shaking reached out from beneath his blanket for the water on the coffee table. His throat robbed of moisture ached with every swallow.

Wincing at the cool water ran down he glanced over at his Liam curled up on the chair asleep. First sleep he'd gotten since Gabriel fell ill.  Desperately needing Advil the weak professor sat up slowly pulling the blanket around his shoulders.

Not about to wake his dearest, Gabriel used the armrest to stand. Shaking he trudged into the kitchen gripping the counter to maintain his balance.

However as he rounded the corner his vision blurred, a wave of dizziness engulfed him. Bent over he tried calling for Liam but no words came out, wobbling he attempted to right himself but black spots floated in his vision and then he saw nothing.

****

Gabriel was aware people around him but their voices sounded muddled. Unable to open his weary eyes he strained trying to pick Liam’s voice out.  Unable to he succumbed back to sleep.

****

“He's okay right?”

The frantic voice of his partner jogged Gabriel awake.

“He is now, though I'm sure he gave you quite a scare.”

The second voice was familiar but Gabriel couldn’t place it. Willing his eyes open he saw Darian Verago looking down at him. Puzzled Gabriel thought he was dreaming until he heard Liam.

“Gabriel! Oh thank God you're finally awake.” Liam cried tears rolling down his face, he bent forward cupping Gabriel's face in his hands. “Oh my love.”

Confused Gabriel glanced around as the rest of the room came into focus only then did the older man realize he was lying in a hospital bed.

Tears welled in his eyes seeing Liam’s exhausted pained but relieved face smiling. “De-earest” He choked out not trusting his own voice.

Liam leaned in resting his head on Gabriel's chest sobbing. “You scared me.”

Gabriel reached his arm over laying it on Liam's sandy blonde hair. “Forgive me.” He whispered.

“How do you feel?” Darian asked removing his stethoscope from around his neck.

“Exhausted.” The professor said still stroking Liam’s hair.

“Not surprised.” Darian replied as Nick walked in. “Hey.” His face broke into a grin. “Can you take Liam to the vending machine please?”

“Sure Doc.” The lab tech replied winking; as out of it as Gabriel was he saw Darian blush.

“I want to stay.” Liam’s head shot up looking at the doctor.

“Dearest, please. You need a break.” Gabriel squeezed his partner’s hand.  “I'll be fine.”

Liam looked as he was about to argue but Nick grabbed his arm. “Listen to the Professor, come on.”

“I'll be right back.” Liam’s voice cracked as he walked out. “Ow quit yanking my arm.”

That brought a smile to Gabriel’s face.

“Nick will distract him for a bit while I take your vitals.” Darian placed the chest piece on Gabriel's back.  “Breath in.”

Gabriel complied happy his asthma wasn't flaring.

“Do you remember coming here?” Darian asked removing the ear buds, grabbing the electronic thermometer.

The professor looked down at his hands shaking his head. “No, last memory is...”  He closed his eyes trying to bring up the memory. “The kitchen, I don't remember why.”  He looked back up at Darian who ran the thermometer over his forehead.

“Hmm 102.1, better but not good.” Darian frowned. “I wanted Liam to leave so I could tell you what happened; poor kids anxiety is through the roof right now.”

Pain clenched Gabriel's chest, it was all his fault. He brushed away a few tears. Darian handed him a box of tissues.

“I did give Liam something to help him calm down.” He smiled at the professor who nodded.  “Liam said he woke to find you passed out on the floor. When you didn't respond he called me, good thing too when we got you in your temperature was almost 104.”

Gabriel squeezed the blanket in his hands, “My poor dear, I put such stress on him.” He looked back up at Darian, “Thank you for helping him...and me.”

“Anytime Gabe. You'll have to stay until we get your fever down, it's been fluctuating but hasn't gone under 102 yet. Liam said you'd been fighting a cold.” Darian looked at the IV then sat down at the computer.

Gabriel nodded with a sigh. “Yes caught a chill in the rain walking home from a bookstore.  My Liam tried his best but I only got worse.” He paused rubbing his nose. “He didn't sleep for...” Grabbing a wad of tissues the older man wiped his eyes. “Darian...help him, give him something so he’ll sleep.”

The doctor exhaled, “I can but I'd be easier if he'd do a sleep study. I need to know what he's tried in the past and how his insomnia works.

“I remember him telling me before that over the counter sleep aids did not work.” Gabriel replied, “I-I don't know if he's been on prescriptions, he doesn't like to talk about it. Given his issue with doctors I doubt he has.”

Darian nodded, “I can talk to him if you want.”

“Let me try first,” The professor said, “He's overwhelmed right now I don't want him to feel we’re pressuring him.”

“Good call.” Darian said as Liam and Nick walked back in, the writer rushing to his boyfriend’s side.  “I'll check back in a bit, if you need anything hit the call button. Nurse will be in shortly to take some blood.”

“Thank you doctor.” Gabriel managed a smile before locking eyes with Liam.

“Gabriel Lane, I'm so sorry, I shouldn’t have...”

“Dearest, breathe please.” Gabriel interrupted clasping his hand in his partners. “It’s not your fault. You hadn't slept in two days, please don't blame yourself. My heart can't handle it.”

“B-but love, I didn't, I mean I...” Tears once again ran from those ochre eyes lined with deep bags and red from crying; Liam looked as exhausted as Gabriel felt.

“Liam James,” Gabriel whispered wishing he could bring comfort to his troubled partner. “I'll be fin-ne...”  He turned grabbing more tissues.

Ehh’tsscheww!

Groaning he was about to rub his nose when something caught his eye. His partner held out a handkerchief for him.

A loving smile graced his face as he accepted it. “Thank you my dear. Please rest with me.” Using whatever strength he could Gabriel scooted himself over on the bed. “Lay down.”

Liam eyed the hospital bed remembering the last time he'd laid in one. This was different, Gabriel would be fine. Slowly the anxious writer positioned himself next to his boyfriend, reaching an arm across Gabriel hugging him tightly.  It wasn't comfortable but both felt peace in each other’s hold.

“Dearest,” Gabriel said quietly after a minute mostly to test if Liam was still awake. The writer gave a half audible grunt. “Let Darian prescribe you some sleep aids.

“Won't work.” Liam stated sleepily.

Gabriel frowned, “Why?”

“Not now love, please.” The younger man said tightening his grip on Gabriel.  “Get better first.”

Closing his eyes Gabriel stroked Liam's back until he fell asleep.

So patient Dr Verago is! Maybe he has a chance of getting to the bottom of Liam's insomnia.

Poor Gabe. He may have to take a page from Mycroft's book and always carry an umbrella from now on.

As for a request, you know I love Aiden and Barrett. How about a fic with one of them sick for the first time as a couple? You learn so much about your partner in that situation. :D

@Kaze wo Hiku  I'd perfer sick Liam! I'm guess I'm  attracted to how liam toughs things out all the time. For example he thought he could get by without talking about his father or  past relationships. He hardly admits it when something is bothering him, but when he's sick, it's w chance for him to drop his guard a bit, even if Gabe had to drag it out of him!  So that's why I'll always be a sick Liam fan. I just love him!

Plus- watching Gabe clumsily fuss over sick Liam has been a favorite of mine too. :D

thanks for asking, Kaze!

Title: I’m Not a Saint

Prompt: In One Ear by Cage The Elephant

Pairings: Barrett/Aiden

Inhaling slowly through his mouth since he was unable to breath properly through his nose, Barrett surveyed his reflection in the mirror.  His black hair still wet from the shower dripped onto his shoulders.  Grabbing another towel he dried it quickly so not to soak the counter anymore, Aiden hated water spots.

Wrapping the towel around his waist he walked into the bedroom, oddly the clothes he’d laid out for work no longer sat on the bed.  Barrett scrunched his face, positive he’d set up his grey suit.  Massaging his forehead hoping to dislodge some of the tension headache, he sighed walking into the closet.

“Retty, out!” Aiden nearly shut the door on his boyfriend who faltered a bit.

“Darbing, I neeb clodes.”  Barrett sniffed wishing he sounded normal; thankfully today only involved office work, no court appearances.

Aiden cocked his head while resting his hands on his waist. “Barrett Sterling you are not going to work with that awful cold.”  Reaching out he grabbed his boyfriend’s hand pulling him back into the bedroom.  “Now lay down, I’ll make you some breakfast; I’ll even wear that apron you like.”

“Baden serioudy I neeb to worbk.” Pulling a wad of tissues out Barret blew his nose which already was horribly chapped.  “I wob’t de wong I pomise.”

“Babe, listen to yourself, you sound awful!” Aiden frowned; Barrett always seemed to put work over his own well-being.  “Please.” He pouted his best eyes.

The lawyer sighed, knowing full well what Aiden was trying to pull. “I’ld de fi....”  Quickly he turned from Aiden bringing up his tissues again.

Hehtscheww!

Grumbling he wiped his nose throwing the tissues into the trash.  He once again tried getting past the shorter man into the bedroom but Aiden wouldn't move.  Barrett glared down while the diva flashed his impeccable smile.

“Dor impostoble.” He turned going to the dresser.  Aiden sighed as Barrett pulled out more casual wear.

“Babe stop, if you’re going to stubborn and go in, at least look stunning.” The fashionista stepped back grabbing the suit.

“Dank too.” Barrett replied sniffling.  While he dressed Aiden grabbed a few tissues handing them to his boyfriend.  Finally together, for the most part, Barrett grabbed his briefcase heading for the door.  Just as he reached for the handle his hand floated in front of his slacked face.  A quick gasp escaped him.

Heh...hehtschew!

T’schew!

Rubbing his eyes he felt Aiden come up beside him. “Don’t stay too long darling, I’ll worry.”

The taller man nodded, Aiden rose on his toes to kiss Barrett’s cheek.

****

Typing on his computer was harder than expected as Barrett kept pausing to wipe his nose.  Finally done, as it’d taken nearly an hour, with one paragraph, he leaned back in his chair.  A hard sniff did nothing to relieve his running nose which aggravated him more then he wanted to admit.  Just as he was about to grab more tissues his phone vibrated.  Swiping he saw a message from Aiden.

Retty, not feeling well.

Oh perfect, if he got the diva sick he’d never hear the end of it.

Sorry, darling. Rest I’ll be home soon.

Momentarily forgetting what he’d been working on as the headache from earlier disrupted his thought process, his phone went off again.

I tried, throat hurts too hard to sleep plus I’m congested. Please come home. I need cuddles.

Glancing at his watch it was past lunch, not that he noticed, his appetite being nonexistent.

Quickly he replied he’d be home in an hour before burying his face into his elbow crook.

Hehtscheww!

Hhh...Hehtscheww!

Another harsh blow did little to elevate his congestion, simply causing his sore chapped nose to run harder.  Exhaling Barrett knew he was overruled; his cold won this round.

Leaving now.  He texted back to Aiden.

Standing outside the apartment door Barrett braced himself for his boyfriend’s fury.  Being sick and Aiden Summerville never mixed.  Just as he turned the knob the door flung open.

“Oh Retty, you look terrible.” Aiden exclaimed grabbing his arm.

Well this was different.  Either way Barrett was happy Aiden wasn’t snapping at him.  Setting his case down he trudged to the couch collapsing on it.  The fashion designer came over with pills and water.  “Here babe.”

Tiredly the dark haired man held out his hand, Aiden placing the pills in it and handed him water.

Settling down next to him Aiden looked at him with worried blue eyes.

“Dow bo doo feld?” Barrett asked trying to focus on his partner.

The blonde went to answer then paused before clearing his throat. “Oh throat hurts a bit.” He winced forcefully.

“Dowry.” Barrett breathed leaning back on the couch.

“Don’t worry darling, just rest.”  Aiden replied stroking Barrett’s hair.  He then brought more water, a bowl of soup and a blanket.  The lawyer’s eyes closed after he finished eating.

After a few quiet minutes Barrett’s eyes opened, a faint smile formed on his face. “Dou’re faking arebn’t dou?”

Aiden flashed the best “What me?” look he could.  “I’ve no idea what you mean Barrett.”  His eyes went upward.

“Phease, dou’re neber dis nice ben sick. Nob thad I’m....”  He pulled the blanket up.

Hehtschew!

Het’tschew!

“Neberbind.” Barrett smiled shaking his head.

Aiden gave him a sassy smile before cuddling next to him.

Title: Running Out of Time part 6 (End)

Prompt: Hearts Breaking Even by Bon Jovi

Pairings: Vincent/Emmett

It had been a week since Vincent had left Emmett sitting in his apartment.  Having mostly recovered from his asthma issues, the barista’s health also improved.  Physical health that is, mentally he was a mess.

Emmett hadn’t realized until Vincent didn’t show up in the park when he returned to work how much he truly missed the musician.  Shadows of the past, the fear of falling back in love with the gorgeous gothic man had clouded his vision.  Throw in allergies, a fever and asthma and Emmett finally admitted he hasn’t been thinking straight.

Sadly there wasn’t much he could do.  He knew Vincent had only been in town a few days while he played his gigs.  Biting the inside of his lip that was something else Emmett never liked.  When they’d began dating Vincent only played local shows, now he popular enough his assistant began booking out of town and state shows.  Emmett hated Vincent leaving sometimes for days on end.  This had been the start of their downfall.  Being jealous often led Emmett to accuse Vincent of things he knew in his heart weren’t true.  It was all out of fear, the fear of losing the man he loved.  Vincent being bisexual didn’t help either, Emmett’s jealousy fell on everyone, especially Adamaris.  Vincent and his female assistant had been together for a few months before he’d met Emmett.  Though the musician swore they were only working professionals, Emmett never fully trusted her.

Sighing Emmett walked out of Café Arcobaleno, his shift over he glanced up at the park across the street.  Silently he debated; he’d pay for it so decided against it. The allergy medicine he'd taken a work would wear off soon. Stuffing his hands in his pockets he started walking toward his apartment.

As his building came into view the breeze blew rustling the flowers from nearby florist who had set up an outside display.

A rush of pollen smacked Emmett whose eyes began to water.

Ekshew!

Eh...Ekshew!

Hurrying past, hand cupped over his mouth, he made it inside.  Digging into his pocket with his other hand he groaned, out of tissues.

“Here.” A smooth familiar baritone voice said.  Shocked Emmett whirled around; Vincent stood a few steps away, holding out a jet black handkerchief.

Breath caught in his throat as the barista tried to articulate his surprise.  “Vin!” He finally squeaked out.  The musician smiled sadly at him as Emmett took the handkerchief wiping his nose.  “I-I thought you left.” He added quietly averting his eyes.

“I did, played a few shows in Scranton Heights.” Vincent folded his arms across his black shirt and suspenders.

“Oh.” Emmett looked down at his feet.  Suddenly all that desire he’d been suppressing returned.

The taller man cocked his head, “Something wrong? You’re not running away from me or screaming.”

Emmett grimaced but said nothing.  What could say? Pressure rose in his chest, bringing the fist which clutched the handkerchief he coughed into it.  The pollen still trapped in his lungs forced another hard cough this time he wheezed.

“Em,” Vincent walked closer, his voice so soft, caring, the voice which always brought Emmett such comfort.

Regaining his breath, Emmett pulled out his inhaler taking a quick hit off of it.  “I’m fine.  Really.” He stated seeing the look on his ex-boyfriends face.  “Listen Vincent, I…”  He knew what needed to be said however nerves got the better of him cutting off his voice.

Suddenly two firm yet soft hands rested on his shoulders.  Looking up Emmett stared directly into the deep brown eyes of Vincent Rathborn, the man he’d tried so hard to convince himself he was over.  Tears welled as he buried his face into Vincent’s chest.  “I’m sorry.” He whispered.

“Don’t be, I shouldn’t have surprised you.  You’d ever right to be upset with me.” Vincent replied.

“No, no, it was me, I’m can’t help my jealousy. I trust you, I just…” Emmett stopped wiping his eyes.

“You don’t trust others, I know.  I remember our… conversations.” The musician’s tone lowered.

Emmett scoffed, “That’s a nice word for screaming arguments.”  Pulling back he wiped more tears then cleared his throat.  “Listen…maybe we could talk again.  I promise to watch my temper.”

Vincent slowly ran his thin fingers over Emmett’s pink cheeks. “I’d love that, Emmers.”
